From what I've read, I've seen people nosedive straight into "these characters are all uggos" or some equivalent. I see *way* more "why is character X so ugly." I have seen a handful of "I think Character Y is too pretty" but usually in the context of "I am jealous that that character will look better than my PC" (which is an implicit statement of requiring a character, in this case the PC, to be very attractive in order to be valued).
Actually - that's the thing. There are a LOT of posts about how much people think the companions are ugly. And that overwhelming criticism causes this backlash of beauty shaming. It's a vicious cycle - a hodge podge of: "I hate ugly people..." enticing responses such as, "Well I hate pretty people..." (Not verbatim. I'm simplifying everyone's words.) It becomes this proverbial, "clusterf*cky" hate-sandwich. You know?
Both parties are wrong - meaning in a moral sense. They are insulting everyone under the sun - conventionally attractive or not, going on these tirades as they disparage the physical body/face types of real people.
"I hate moles."
"I hate white teeth."
"I hate clean skin."
"I hate scars."
"I hate fat people."
"I hate skinny people."
"I hate blonds."
Then it gets even more insulting...
"I hate models."
"I hate minorities."
"I hate femininity/masculinity."
These are all simplified opinions, but opinions that have been expressed nonetheless.
After all is said and done, we are sitting around hating on - everyone! Maybe the BSN needs more self respect, so that we can show others respect?
