Why is it better or worse to complain about that over anything else. We're buying a fantasy, aren't we?
We're buying A fantasy, certainly, but it isn't ours. It's the developers fantasy, ripped out of their imaginations and their talks with one another and coded into a game so that we can experience it. I don't want to imply that you aren't entitled to your opinion, because thats completely untrue, but I do think that to complain about something so subjective is rather pointless. If it was your fantasy, every character would be crafted to meet your personal standards. But it isn't. This fantasy is going to be experienced by thousands of people and there was never going to be a situation where everybody was made happy by that because everyone is different.
If something can be measured objectively, and can be objectively shown to be lacking etc, then constructive criticism is far more effective and important- there can be a clear criteria for improvement and a defined way of measuring said improvement. You can't do that with attractiveness. So I can't lie, I see complaining about virtual attractiveness to be complaining for the sake of complaining. If you find the characters attractive, thats a huge bonus. If you don't, their personalities might grow on you, or you might decide that the -optional- romance content is not something you would enjoy this time. Whilst I sympathise with that, its really all there is to it, because if they changed the looks/romances to suit one group, they'd straight away alienate another.
