Heavy, light, or robes, I guess. The game forces me to do so, it seems. 1 armour type per class.
It doesn't. You can craft a heavy armour that your mage PC or mage companion can use. You're forced on using one armour type per class only if you don't use crafting.

Something slender, but still shiny, hopefully. Not a big fan of fur armor.

This explanation from the devs has had me confused for awhile. I don't think we've seen the stat differences, but based on aesthetics and naming conventions that we see from the looting and equipping companions during the demos, it seems there are different types of armor, per class. Example, the warrior armor in the Gamescom demo looks a lot lighters than warrior armor in the trailers.
So, for crafting, are they really saying you can craft an armor that has looks like the warrior-only armor we see in the trailers, but you can make it equip-able by mages through crafting and it give it magic based bonuses? Or are they just saying you can craft a heavier mage sets?

Right now I'm liking this one, but I'm hoping I'll be surprised by some armors that I discover in game:

The former. You can craft warrior and rogue armour available for mages, as well as rogues and mages armours for warriors and warrior and mage armours for rogues. This explanation from the devs has had me confused for awhile. It might be howewer that some warrior sets will be lighter, as well as some mage sets having lighter armour.

Something rogue-ish for my Mage. HATE mage robes.
If I can have fur boots, then I'll have fur boots!

Well, the mage set shown since E3 isn't really a robe. I dislike becuase it makes the arms looks skinnier though.Something rogue-ish for my Mage. HATE mage robes.

I would love my female elf mage to wear something similar the elven green armour from DA2 but with boots.
edit I found a pic-

I really hope elves have rediscovered shoes in DAI, dalish I could handwave but a slum is not the place to be barefoot in.

Yeah, I've been pleasantly surprised with mage gear in the demos for the most part. Arms have never bothered me, but I know enough from the boards that it's something Bioware has struggled with.
I liked a lot of the magic archer gear from Dragon's Dogma.

It's the gold that I like about it...which probably means I'll end up finding a shape I like better and craft it to look gold, because I want to look fabulous.

I plan on wearing the kind that isn't spelled like a meat company.
I take it you won't be wearing a set that has predominant colours that remind you of the flavour of meat from that company either...

I plan on making an ironclad Knight Enchanter. Heavy armor all the way. Might squeeze in some long cloth belt hanging or underarmor coat if i can.

I'll be planning a Dalish Elf Mage for first playthrough and I will be going with the typical cloth/light armour. I like the traditional long robe appearance for mages, so I'm hoping that may be there are at least 1 style that looks more like that. I know that apostates try to have a different appearance being on the run, but I am a sucker for traditional robes. If there isn't and the robes are more pant and shirt appearance, I just hope the styles are not too over the top, I like simplicity.

I like playing rogues so something light. The coats we've seen so far are cool.
I want this armor for my male Dalish elf mage.
This armor, in all is dark brown / black leather and awesome hat glory.
Maging and Inquisitng with style and swag !
This is my favourite armor concept, the Sex Hat is a must!
I expect to see some masks as well, we're in orlais after all.

Georgeous and feminen, but covered.
Something like a vest over a peasant blouse and pants ensemble with sweet sashes and lovely boots.
There was a really nice Hawke set, that had something similar to cargo pants. Although I can't find an image now... But something liek that would be grand.
