I was hoping to start a discussion about the possibility of Bartrand returning in Dragon Age inquisition. I would imagine this is a definite occurrence if you allowed him to live? I assume Varric will him up in conversation at some point during the game. Would people want him to return either as a cameo or in a larger sense. Do you think it would work. It would be nice to think you could help rid his mind of madness caused by the red lyrium... Who knows maybe hes the leader of the red templers? :o

Dragon Age: Inquisition's Expansion Pack will focus on Bartrand's escape from the Sanitarium in both his mind and physical being all whilst attempting to discern reality from hallucinations of himself as Meredith, Dane and Andraste.

he wont lead the red templars, bioware wouldnt do that with a person who is possibly dead depending on the choices hawke made... they learned their lesson from the backlash of leliana and wynne still being alive, even though you could kill them in origins.  I wouldnt mind him maybe joining up with the inquisition as an quote on quote expert on red lyrium.... maybe hes some what recovered enough to be able to talk some sense.

What was your reasoning. Not disagreeing just wondering if it was because he betrayed you? Or because you felt that his mind was beyond saving or? I am curious tis all.

I see no reason why he should return. He's nothing but a scoundrel merchant who happened to come across a relic that drove him mad.

Varic is sure to mention him in conversation, but that is most likely all.

The latter. I figured he was beyond saving and thought Varric should kill him out of mercy.

I simply cannot kill him if Anders temporarily "fixes" his mind. I see that he needs help. Its easier to gut the bastard when he is full crazy. He is alive in most of my playthroughs though.

Yeah I doubt hes leading the red templars :P but it would be good for a giggle. I'd like the idea, but it would basically be Bioware trolling us. That's an interesting thought, he has first hand experience on the effects of red lyrium. He sounds like a great asset!

I doubt we'll see Bartrand in DA: I, and if he ever makes an appearance it's going to be small cameo not something on a large scale. I expect to see Varric mention him and the decision concerning Bartrand and the Red Lyrium shard will also be mentioned.

I don't know how it would fit. Varric will just mention him differently depending on what happened.

If I have Anders with me(which I normally do since Anders is boss)  I get Bartrand the help he needs.  I do expect Bartrand to be mentioned by Varric.  As for Bartrand actually showing up in the game, the videos we've seen as shown to me that in Inquisition, BioWare has no problems delivering unique content to players that make specific choices, since that whole Redcliffe mission is only available through specific choices.  So if BioWare can design 20-30+ minutes missions that only a handful of players will experience, I don't see any reason they can't add something to do with Bartrand or other minor characters.

I think we always killed him mainly for Varric's sake. Imagine living and having to provide for an insane bastard brother like that.

I kill him all the time, like putting a lame horse out of its misery, yunno if that lame horse got hopped up on red lyrium, went insane and made other horses eat lyrium too to hear a strange song. He's destroying my ranch!

Having Batrand could be useful...

I mean we know Anders was able to "cure" him for a couple of minutes.

It's interesting and the red lyrium is going to be a big problem in DAI , it seems.

Gotta admit, if I bring Anders at all to see Bartrand, I've only once asked him to try to help him.  It seems kinder to let Varric put him out of his misery.  Of course, I then give Varric the lyrium shard about half the time anyway.  It adds extra rune slots for Bianca, btw.

yeah, i always killed him...  im not without mercy.... making anders heal him for like 5 seconds is just plain mean to varric, better to let him kill him when hes crazy then make varric kill him after he temporarily regains his mind.

I killed Bartrand, always. I felt like even if you used Anders to heal him, he'd never be the same again. And for the record, I never even realized that Anders could heal him, since I for some reason never brought Anders on the quest. I didn't figure it out until my...6th playthrough?

So does anyone know what the consequences are for killing/sparing Bartrand? I heard that if you let him live, you get a war table mission from him
