So I was wondering would people like the idea if Bioware had three studio's that worked on a 3 year development cycle and released a new game each year?

Also each game would be a different IP so one year would be Dragon Age and the next say Mass Effect and third maybe being a new IP or say a Knights of the Old Republic game.

Sure, if it didn't reflect a drop in quality thanks to strong access to resources.

That said, while I would love to see Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and KOTOR as the properties, I believe it would (and will) be more like, "Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and multiplayer-centric new IPs."

I kinda like the idea of sane developers and a quality product, myself.  That way I don't have to spend umpteen dollars on crap that have the playabilty/replaybility of a paper airplane and lose my custom altogether.  And,yeah, that is taking multiple branch/office rotation into consideration.  ;)

Nope even considering your best intention good games have a long development cycle. I prefer fewer but memorable games from BW. They should take all the time they need. I can wait for a good game.

No. For the same reason I prefer home cooked meals to McDonald's.

Maybe if Bioware can keep three-four fully fledged studios working on 4 IPs at the same time.

Then their development cycles could align to one game every three/four years each, staggered in the perfect way to create a steady stream of content without sacrificing quality.

Until such a time as that is happening, no. I'd prefer a couple of years of nothing between installments to any more games with a development cycle of 1.3 years. I think RPGs like this need more time in the oven than that.

Bioware has three teams in Canada and a studio in Austin (which seems to be doing online games like Shadow Realm and TOR). One of those Canadian teams does DA, another (the one that did ME1-3) is working on a new IP, and the last (the one that did the ME multiplayer stuff) is working on the new Mass Effect. So they're already working on multiple projests.

Would I like a Bioware game every year? Only if each game was as good as their best. The last time they had a shortened development cycle we got DA2, which was far from that.

I tell you what, at the rate in which I play games, one good game from Bioware a year is about all I can handle! As long as the are epic of course.

No. DA2 was rushed.

I'd rather not risk it.

No. As much as I'd like to play new Dragon Age or Mass Effect game frequently. I want them to take as much time as possible to polish the product without quality loss, and we have already seen enough companies milking their franchise with the same thing every year.

We have already seen the example of "rushed development game" in DA: II, and most people don't take it kindly.

I know all of that already, the question is more focused on the setup and timing of the release of titles than if Bioware has the actual resources.

No! That would be a terrible idea. Bioware's characters and stories are always best when they are not rushed! And if there are multible different studios that are working on the same franchise just so the next game comes every year then Bioware will lose its identity and only keep the name.

I loved DA2 but pretty much everyone's main complaint was that it was rushed. That's what's going to happen again eventually or right away if Bioware pushes out games every year.

In an ideal world?  Yeah, sure definitely, that would be nothing short of awesome.

But in the real world I'd be questioning the quality of the game if they just started churning them out, I rather they spend time on making something awesome over a long period of time as opposed to something mediocre over a short period.  So unless they could guarantee quality every time, I'd rather just wait.

If four different IPs made at four different teams were involved, sure. Each individual game could have a four year development cycle and we'd still get a new game every year.

Would I like a new Dragon Age game every year? No. No no no. (If there was a spin-off strategy game they farmed out to some other company better equipped to make strategy games, they might be able to get it down to one game every two years or so - one RPG and one strategy - without harming the brand.)

I don't think so.

Seems to me it would be difficult to form 3 quality studios, as it is now I think they share staff between ME and DA.

I'm just not sure they could pull it off without diluting the product.

Then you aren't really asking a significant question

Whether or not they have the resources is the question

It's like asking someone if they want 100 million dollars

of course they do, but how are they going to get it.

I would fancy a DA/ME/GTA cycle completed in three years. (GTA is from Biostar or Rockware, can't remember exactly right now)

And Bioware should also develop Vampires: Bloodlines further.

A good story needs time. Also I think they are too small for such a feat. Add one or two more teams and make it 4 years and then maybe.

Hmmm, it seems most people think that a set cycle automatically means rushed and bad games.  I think 3 years would be a decent amount of time to make a good game, but I'm not a game designer so my knowledge of the subject is not all that great.  DA:I has been in development for what 4 years?  I would guess it took longer then usual since they are working on a new engine, so once that engine has been broken in it seems like development time of future games would be a bit faster.

Soooo...that in mind I think the three year plan could work very well.  It is just a matter of if the company has the staffing for that, and/or them being willing to semi-constantly be working on a game.  Plus that doesn't really factor in many games have close to a year of DLC support too.  -head spins around a few times-

In short I would love it if there was more games of quality coming out more often!  The gap between Mass Effect 3 and DA:I has been horrible for example.  However, I want whatever is best for the games themselves.  If that means waiting so be it.  However, if they can find a way to make it work with games coming out more regularly I'd be pleased as can be.

I live in a world where my second favorite game franchise delivered its last decent entry eight years ago and its last great entry twelve years ago. I can wait.

I'm sure they can squeeze in one game every 6 months, shouldn't be much of a problem.

It all depends on how big the division grows, it is possible actually if they have the ME franchise, DA franchise, this new unannounced thing Casey Hudson set up and Shadow realms.  So yes they could end up with a BioWare game a year but they might not end up being the type of games you like to play.

no, i would rather they took there time on each project, rushed work from a big company is terrible, DA2 being a prime example from bioware
