I do, but most of them just play sports games with the occasional COD game thrown in.

The others are members of my PnP group.

most people i know are the "party all night, drink until you puke and then start again, video games are for kids" type......i really need new friends...

question is why is this relevent?

Women have been gaming since its incepion.

in the arcades on slotmachienes anhome consoles.

the thing was it was perceved as a "Nerdy" hobby like DnD where the uncool kids sat. and no girl would associate whith those kids.

so the girls who liked those type of things hid it. abd the perception continued.

I have been bullied for my tastes in clothing entertaiment and even music.(i was a tomboy.)

by other girls. most boys thaught i was cool. i knew every member of M.A.S.K. and could transform my Optimusprime in 7 seconds.

ive never needed validation for my gender i have never felt victimised because Arcee is pink. (Btw her looks were a joke at first look up her history.

Those females mostly play casual games on their smartphones and tablets, of course.

A "gamer" to me is not this.

This is someone passing time while they wait.  Like reading a magazine or something.

Yup.

So what this tells me is AAA titles need more strong independent falling candy blocks what don't need no man. in them.

What a load of bollocks. One game is like another, to say someone who doesn't use or play 'insert my prefferred game / platform' isn't a 'gamer' (whatever that means) is just a load of elitist ****.
Who cares if someone prefers to play on their phone? What difference does it make to you?
And who cares if more women play games in whatever form than men? Why get so upset over it?

This whole forming and rallying around an identity as a 'gamer' is really weird.
I've been playing games for over 26 years (on all.platforms ) and yet wouldn't classify myself as belonging to this so called gamer group because there is so much more to my identity than that.

And given some of the posts i read from 'gamers ' I'd rather have my eyeballs pulled out than belong to such a group.

Is "gamer" even a thing? "Television watcher" isn't. "Moviegoer" is a word, but it isn't used to mean much.

To me a gamer is someone who enjoys not only video games, but discussing video games, reviewing video games and also keeping up with the video gaming industry (what games are releasing when, etc).

I know a lot of people say that anyone who plays any type of game is a gamer, but I don't call a person that just enjoys movies a film buff.

So I guess if people really  wanna get technical then I suppose we can have gamers and game buffs.

It should be.  "moviegoer" is a lot better than saying a person who went and saw mad max, avengers, this movie, that movie and this movie in the last two weeks.

thank you very much.
and no, one game is not like another.

i dont care if people play on their smartphones/tablets. but playing "games" on your smartphone doesnt autimatically make you a "gamer" imo. dont ask me why, i cant really explain, and this is just my personal subjective opinion.

srsly, i couldnt care less.

Considering a lot of smartphone games are getting re-released on steam, what happens if you play them on a rad PC?

I think a 'gamer' is someone who plays video games and considers themself to be a gamer.  That's really the extent of it.  If I play games all the time and don't consider myself a gamer, then I'm not.  If I play games all the time and consider myself a gamer, then no one else can tell me that I'm not.

I think if a 50 year old woman plays hours of video games on her phone every week and considers herself a gamer, then she's a gamer.  It's not up to me to tell her that she's not one.

I think that these statistics aren't talking about 'gamers', in reality, though.  They are talking about people who buy video games.  It's like the difference between people who go see movies and film buffs.  I think that the lingo just hasn't caught up to reality here.

Exactly. Most women watch the superbowl, this does not make them NFL/football fans

They suck. Majority of them are pure 5/10 and 4/10 games.

doesnt change anything. imo being a "gamer" means more than just playing video games (ingoring the fact that i wouldnt call a lot of smartphonegames "games"), see what Johnnie Walker wrote in post #262.

There is also cinephile, but I've never heard anyone use it who also wasn't a pretentious douche.

My point was more that "who is a moviegoer" isn't something anyone ever thinks about unless he works in marketing at one of the studios. Cinephile, yes -- but that's pretentious douchebaggery.
