Do you think it's because they work harder to try overcome the men, so the guys will give her respect? Not trying to start an argument. I am just curious.
That could be a part of it, since females have to fight against the overwhelming prevalence of males playing most "hardcore" titles, as well as the focus of advertising and game builds towards the male demo.
I distinctly remember a situation back when I was playing one of the DLC maps for CoD Black Ops a few years ago;this one girl was kicking ass no matter what team she was on.
On my team, she was getting most of the kills, doing most of the work.
On the other team, she was straight up beating my ass and the collective asses of those I was partnered with.
Rather than get upset and start screaming obscenities, throughout the game I would go, "Damn, share some kills, hahaha" or "Holy *expletive* she's got my number, she's taking us down handily"
This happened until all of us randoms split, and then I got a friend request and message from her, thanking me for not being condescending or a jerk, but being a gentleman and treating her with respect she doesn't often get from males online.
Which is sad. In theory I should just be one of a mass of people that play games and react positively to another player's success;instead I was an outlier of positivity in a sea of negativity. That isn't right, and that NEEDS to change.
Then there's a female poster from these very boards;she is FAR better at Destiny's multiplayer than I am. I straight up suck butt, she makes me look like a joke(then again most would make me look like a joke in it). We had many a laugh during the Beta about how I was pure garbage. And the lulz if I did better than she did a couple times.
So when it comes to ladies playing hardcore titles, there may be some motivation based on how gaming society treats them, as well as their peers.
Women are still just humans in the end of the day;some will be better than others at gaming, depending on the type of game and platform.
