Can't I just play games in my underwear and bra in peace?

If gaming in your undies floats your boat, then sure. Personally, I find it a little weird, but to each their own.

Lol at all "hardcores" stating what's a gamer and what's not.

It does float my boat, along with all of this wine.

Lucky for you then. Only about 20% of the ladies I've gamed with weren't all in your face gurl gamer lol. Yet another reason why I prefer sticking to my group of buddies. Or just playing single player.

Damn. Well, cheers for not being "L-O-L PIE IS A LIE AMIRITE? GIGGLESNORT GIVE ME AMMO PLS"

Dunno.

Seems plenty of female consumers like the kind of casual/tablet/phone games that are being produced.

there is obivously a market.

That's fine, I didn't think I was saying the opposite. My point was that at the end of the day its a niche market that does not have any effect on the rest of the industry.

This isn't meant to be directed at you Lotion, just random musings. But when we see these studies, ie. %50 gamers are women, I just chuckle. When publishers actually see female gamers as having buying power and are actively trying to sell games to them, ie. maybe not putting so much sexist crap in there games, maybe then I'll believe in these sorts of studies as being relevant.

My sister plays Hello Kitty World on her iphone, so she's now considered a gamer?

hahaha no, whatever.

Comical how much try to dilute the definition of "Gamer" so they can falsely claim the percentage of "female gamers" is higher than it really is,no?

In my experience Xbox Live(specifically Halo and CoD) and League of Legends communities are the worst.

The rest of PC seems to do alright. Our bad people seem to all go towards MOBA games.

I've heard bad things about the WOW community too.

But do these mobile gamers consider themselves gamers?

My sister plays games on her phone but if I called her a gamer she'd laugh at me

It goes both ways. You can be overly-narrow or overly-broad with your definition.

IMO, it's equally comical how some people try to convince that playing games on a phone, a Wii, or Facebook isn't considered gaming.

We may consider it gaming because it is very simply put, playing a game, but do these people consider themselves gamers?  In my experience, no, not really

It's not down to whether or not they consider themselves to be gamers.

It is how often they play and how they play. I know some people who play casual games like Farmville and they've spent more time, money and effort on it than some hardcore gamers I've seen.

I know, people never seem to take me serious as a film enthusiast when they find out I only watch sports movies.

Not my point, if they don't consider themselves gamers, just "I play this when I'm bored or waiting for blah blah", then I wouldn't classify them as such

people who spend hours and hours, energy and money are a different sort

It doesn't matter if they don't consider themselves to be gamers.

The industry think they are gamers because they are the ones who spend time and money on these games. Why do you think free to play games like Candy Crush are now a multi-billion dollar industry?

Which is great for free to play games and their fans, but it really doesn't impact more "serious" (for want of a better term) gamers

It doesn't?

If they don't accept the assigned label, then whom is considered the appropriate entity to attaching it to them?

Who even cares? Its just another label so companys can treat you like a product and sell you out to the highest bidders.

Yes, but we're talking about gamers in general which is a relatively broad term that also includes casual gamers and not just "serious" gamers.

It doesn't?

Who is to say they don't accept it?

Even if they don't but still play those games regularly, shouldn't they be considered gamers?

Woo boy. You should play some Counter Strike or Garry's Mod if you want a toxic community.

Girls like that give the rest a bad rep. I don't know what the solution to that particular problem is other than ignoring them and gaming with girls that can be taken seriously.
