Anyone else fond of clashing armies and brutal battles of Total War? I myself love Shogun 2. Simply marvelous. Takeda Clan for life!

Not really. I prefer more tactical small team shooters over large scale fighting. I suck at being a General.

So do I but that doesn't stop me. I have a Witch King approach with warfare.

" Send forth all legions. Do not stop the Attack until the city is taken." Needless to say I have a high mortality rate.

I enjoy Rome: Total War, better than Medieval total war. Would prefer a Total Warrior.

I love Medieval 2. You can breed your generals for specific traits and expand the kingdom by marriage. What's not to love?

Shogun 2 was quite difficult. I got wrecked pretty badly in the tutorial. Yes, got f***ing rekt in the goddamm tutorial!

I think I enjoyed Rome and Medieval 2 more. I conquered most of the lands in both games but I just couldn't be bothered to finish them.

I tried getting into the series with Shogun 2, but the horrible optimization and frankly abysmal loading times turned me off again. At least I paid little for it, was during Steam sale.

It's a nice hobby to see what kind of ridiculous strategy you can make a bunch of people do. My favorite is always having my infintry do a full charge and then run my cavalrys back and forth through the enemy forces as they try to deal with the little guys.

Yeah. Mine is the same way when I tried.

Total War games are all right when they're modded. When they're not modded, I have a "critical history failure" error and go into bluescreen.

I was also pretty disappointed with how arcadey they made Rome 2.

ON AN UNRELATED NOTE, Europa Barbarorum II is finally releasing a public alpha sometime in the next week and POSSIBLY as early as tomorrow. The first EB, a total conversion mod for RTW that gave it real history while also tremendously improving gameplay, is currently the best free thing on the Internet; EB2 covers the same time period but modifies M2TW instead for extra awesome.

Hells yeah.

I'm sad that there wont be a Medieval 3 anytime soon.

Alternate history is one of the reasons why I enjoy games like Total War and Crusader Kings.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to conquer the world as emperor of muslim Scandinavia.

Medieval II and Fall of the Samurai are my two favourites. Whilst FOTS was a bit goofy and not at all really authentic, it was also the most violent, modern entry, with modern automated, mechanical weaponry and mass produced murder on a much faster, brutal level, which is one thing it holds above the other games. Medieval II Kingdoms was a great expansion as well. MED2 was my first game in the series. Empire/Napoleon... Okay not terrible. Shogun2 and FOTS as I said were both great. Didn't enjoy ROME 2 at launch but apparently it's on patch 14 or something now and is a much improved game, so going to give it another try.

Also the Third Age Total War 3.0 is fantastic.

How do you know? Medieval 3, Empire 2 or a Renaissance, Early Modern era game where you can explore would all be great. The war scape engine is designed and much better suited for ranged combat.

Yeah but it pretty much sucks for melee.

Say what you want about the Rome/Medieval 2 engine. It at least took circumstance into account well. Warscape is more for flashy one-on-one combat.

I like Medieval II for its city management and Real Time Battles. The map doesn't seem very interesting to me anymore, because the number of provinces is few. Even Knights of Honor has more provinces. Crusader Kings II is more detailed and stuff, but if Medieval III won't be a buggy mess and have more provinces and details I'll certainly get it.

I'd recommend trying the Kingdoms campaigns or the Stainless Steel mod. The latter also makes diplomacy AI tolerable.
