I'd like a new game plus in the sense of making new characters stronger so that each play through is a bit less tedious than the last.  If this game is going to be as big as they say it is, I sooooo don't want to tediously fight through every encounter again taking just as long as the last time...  Just a bit of something to speed things along.

I'm kinda in favor for New Game Plus too, seemingly a concept that generally exists in JRPGs, and I like how all the effort spend on getting items, money and other stuff will be saved for future playthroughs, because I feel that adds plenty of replay valute too. Also, there's that whole thing about not wanting to redesign the character again in case one actually liked how they turned out.. etc.

Eh I don't want a play the same character again through all the same stuff new game plus, that'd be boring.  With a game with this much stuff that's different based on different choices and character, you need a boost just to lessen the burden of going through the same content again to get to the few different gems.

This. Anything to let me spend more time with my character, even replaying the game with them, is something that'll help game replayability in my case.

You always have the option of "not doing it" should that be preferable to you.

The point I was making was a new kind of new game plus would be more useful in this kind of game.  There's entirely new content you're missing by playing the same character repeatedly, but at the same time playing through time after time again to get to this content can be tedious, so a boost is warranted.

And again, that's entirely up to the player what sort of challenge they are looking for or how they wanna play it-- if you were to ask for my opinion, however, then I'd obviously want a new challenge to dictate another playthrough of course. A game needs to provide challenge for it be satisfactory for me.

The option for harder difficulties is always there.

Yeah harder difficulties is always there, but not "OK I've already done this ten times already, can just annihilate these things already and continue on?" option.  Even the lowest rating takes too long and becomes too tedious after awhile, especially the earlier in the game the content is.  So if there's new game plus you need to be able to apply it to the same and new characters, or at least just new characters, or it ends up for some strange reason the game makes playing the same character over and over again easier, while everyone else trudges along through the same content no easier no matter how many times because they play different characters.

The whole point of new game plus, in say games like chrono trigger was to encourage replay, and reward it so that getting the different endings and paths wasn't JUST a chore.  In this game those different endings and paths that are gotten to by being a different character, some being locked out if you don't, this is only accomplished by making new game plus apply to new characters as well.

I only have a problem with cheats if used before a person beats a game.

If playing the game through ten times, after awhile there's no reason it would be a challenge anyway, just really tedious.  Just because I want to see the other conversation paths and play through to different endings does not mean I want spend the same time and effort on the same fights over and over.  After awhile I just want to plow through that stuff and have it be irrelevant, I mean I've already won the fight over and over again so it's not really cheating.  I'm not accomplishing anything in the first place other than monotony.   So yeah, actually...

How about a fight skip option after beating the game a set number of times or something lol.  Kind of like scene skipping.  :P

Well what constitutes a new game + exactly? If you get an achievement for completing the game that lets you start the next one with a good weapon set, is that enough?

NG+ let's you start a new game with the character you beat the game with. So he/she will have maxed XP, best weapons, spells, gold. Similar to importing characters from ME3 lastsavegame to a new game.

Is why I'm suggesting new options and new ways of looking at it.

Is one kind of new game + I think.  Or maybe some of the money.  Really just extra perks and stuff for the next play through so it's less tedious.  Maybe unlock cheats or something.  This is all just my opinion though.  Sometimes I want to fight through areas I have before sometimes I get to the darkroads or fade again and just want to get back to where something other than combat is happening,

Personally, I'd enjoy a NG+ to explore the different dialogue options I shied away from. An example would be playing Mass Effect as a Paragon... and then running through it again to be the biggest jerk possible. XD The gameplay should be well-balanced though, as to avoid potential boredom. Just my thoughts  :P

Just an example of how unbalanced NG+ can/will be.

Mass Effect 3:

New game lvl 1 character playing on insanity

Newgame+ lvl 40+character playing on insanity.

That would demand a source, hahaha

Wasn't the same. If I recall correctly, NG+ increased difficulty levels, even Insanity to a higher difficulty version of it, unless I'm mistaken.

And the person already beat the game, just remove trophies for beating the game on insanity during new game plus.

Unless you think that if the person has beaten the game once it really makes a difference if they cheat the second time?

That said new game plus can mean a lot of things.  There have been other new game plus styles than just that one.  Look at some of the Tales games.

Where's the fun in that? Starting off as a high level character most of the fights will be boring.

That wasn't true in NWN's OC. Most creatures were placed as encounter triggers -- when the PC enters a trigger a batch of enemies for that encounter type (undead, humanoids, etc.)  are spawned in, picked from lists that match enemy power to the PC's level. So if you start the OC with a level 20 character you'll get liches where a level 1 character would get skeletons. (I believe singular creatures such as bosses were simply leveled to match the PC.)

Not very relevant to DAI, though, since apparently DAI's scaling mechanisms will range from weak to nonexistent. Although if a player actually wants to crush all opposition easily  -- some do -- this would still work.

That would be utterly silly and ridiculous.

I've never understood the idea of NG+.

That said, as implementing it requires little additional effort, I am not against the feature should someone want it.

This is one of the things I really like about RPG's. I get to start the story over, but maintain all the perks I built into my character from a previous playthrough. Adjusting the level cap goes without saying if this is ever put into the game. What does everyone else think?

I like New Game +, but I'm unsure how it would work in Dragon Age? But I wouldn't be opposed.

Why can't people who want to restart just start a new character?

New Game + allows you to restart the game with a character who is already level 30 or 50 or whatever the cap is that you reached in your previous play through. And it allows you to keep everything in your inventory that you scrounged up during your first play through.

I love having NG+, but not boosting up the enemies to make it a challenge would get boring.

While I really enjoyed Dragon's Dogma, I wish the enemies would either A. Get a huge health/damage boost in NG+, or B. Scale with the player. Even the Bitterblack Isle enemies became little more than speed bumps after I hit level 200 and found some good gear.

So? That takes forever to be able to really speed one's way through BBI. (Fighting that final boss for the second time and everything.) And besides... the real challenge is the Ur-Dragon (while you're connected online). Good luck with THAT. lol. Even level "infinity" Arisens fail miserably in taking that thing down.

Why do people insist new game plus means starting over with the same character at whatever level yo were when you finished.  That has not always been the case.  Once again look at the tales games.

Because:

  1. "A New Game Plus (or New Game+) is an unlockable video game mode that allows the player to start a new game after they finish the game at least once, where certain aspects of the finished game, such as experience or items, affect the newly started game."

They have something a little like this with the DLC items. Once you unlock the Reaper's Cudgel or that axe you get from Witch Hunt, you get it at the start of every game.
