Hello,

I just wanted to ask if we can get really immersed (presence) in DA:I?  Previous titles we always had the acitvely controlled player on the screen.  I was hoping we could eliminate that and put the camera on our shoulders so that all we would see of ourselves are our arms and weapons.

I noticed Battlefield which does use Frostbite is first person where you can watch the rifle sway back and forth.

It's just that this is a role playing game, and I'd like to feel like I'm playing the role of the protagonist an not controlling animated icons.

If 1st person is not in the game, can you let us know why you chose not to use that feature from the Frostbite engine?

When i was a kid, we used to go out camping in the great outdoors.  So many people live in condos within major urban centres and don't get out to experience new lands.  Your work can offer a wonderful escape.

Thanks

Maybe a different game but not DA:I. Its going to be over the shoulder effect like DA:O with tactical view, that can be overhead.

You mean like Skyrim?  I like the 3rd person view in DAI.

I'd like to assume that by "eliminate", you mean simply have the option, because totally dumping third-person view would likely destroy the game's combat system for a lot of people, including myself.

The Elder Scrolls of Dragon Age.  Hmm....

.....No thanks.  I get enough first person view in...well, pretty much every other game that comes out on the market.

first person view is flawed for me for many reasons:

1.- i trend to fall off cliffs because i can't see how close i am to the edge

2.- due stereo sound i can't neither guess if oponents are behind me or just aside

3.- IN TACTICS it RUINS EVERYTHING to just one thing: camping

4.- I don't feel any immersion of it, is not VR is just a damn cammera in the wrong position.

For a RPG based heavily on tactics, First person view seems rather ineffective in that, you can't see you surroundings well and cast AoE spells would be a nightmare.

Since the game has target lock I don't care about first person. The point is tighter control with aiming and limited awareness which works great for fps games. In DA you don't aim except for ground target aoe and limited awareness would counter the whole premise of the combat system.

I'm not opposed to being able to zoom so much that it becomes first person view so you can see better in the distance, or check the view, but being actively supported with new meshes/animations etc for weapons is a waste of time.

I cannot stand the first-person camera in Skyrim.  I always play third-person.

I did the same in FO3 and NV.

I don't object to first-person being an option, but I'll never use it if I can avoid it.

Well since DAI uses an auto attack/lock system (therefore cannot swing weapons on command ala Skyrim), first person mode makes little sense, also I personally don't want to look straight at a demon's ass when backstabbing as a Dwarf.

Since Skyrim/FO3 was mentioned here's my approach to the two available perspectives:

3rd Person for Exploring

1st Person for Whacking Things

You sure you don't want to see a demon's ass up close and personal?  :P

A first-person option would be really cool. Unfortunately, I don't think it would work very well with the game's combat system. They would have to change quite a bit I think to make first-person work properly.

I would have to agree with what I've already read here.  It just wouldn't work with the party combat system.

I really like first person view in rpgs though, especially in fallout and elder Scrolls.  However, I don't think it would ever fit Dragon Age very well.

I hate first person perspective in games. It does not improve immersion in any way for me, rather the opposite. First, it would make customisation of my character meaningless since I wouldn't be able to see how he looks during my adventures. Second, it makes movement of character to feel unnatural, limited, "torpid" (can't find any better words to describe what I think).

I usually don't even play first person perspective games (one of the reasons why I am uninterested in Elder Scrolls series). I did one exception lately for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. And it was exactly as I was expecting: I felt like Adam Jensen is some kind of walking brick.

Therefore big Qunari "NO" for first person point of view. It is Elder Scrolls specialisation and let is stay this way.

I agree with what others have said in this thread, 1st person wouldn't really work. Also, would kinda be pointless to spend ages creating a good character in the CC if it ended up that you couldn't see your inquisitor most of the time.

I'd rather stick with third person myself.  First person makes it seem meaningless to dress up in various armors, let alone play any race aside from human.

I have a super hard time with first person, because I can't figure out where the bloody stairs are! I've always switched to third person perspective immediately, because trying to turn and walking into a wall is no fun.

I personally don't want it, I get sea sick after a few mins of play in any first person game, but I don't see any reason why the option couldn't be there for people that want it, you can already scroll in and out to decide the following camera distance, just make that scroll a bit further . As always my watch word is *optional* though.

I like first-person, but I fail to see how that would work in a semi-tactical party based rpg. It's a great idea for a spinoff though.

@CaptivatingKS, walking into walls is loads of fun, and good way to have a free nose job, even if didn't need one. ;)

First person is absolutely terrible for immersion. FPS views are nothing like what IRL vision is like. Your body is invisible, all the senses you'd normally use to get a sense of your surroundings don't exist, etc. It's a view that needs to be retired.

Hehe, tell me about it. I do it offline every morning trying to get into the shower while still half-asleep. And then everyone at work is all KS! Why do you have a black eye??

As far as personal preferences go, I absolutely agree. The biggest thing for me is that peripheral vision is completely impossible. I never realized just how much peripheral vision informs my daily existence until I first tried to pretend that FPS represents what I'm seeing.

Everyone seems to love 007 Goldeneye. I will never understand.

Don't get me wrong in that I do like FPS shooters on PC, having grown up on CS and HL1.

But it's just not immersive for me.
