The statistic is likely accurate, yeah.

I've lived with two ex-girlfriends -- one of whom for three years -- who are bigger into gaming than I've ever been. I know plenty of other women in my area who destroy me at Mario Kart without blinking. And the biggest reason the survey's correct is due to the meteoric rise in smartphone app-esque gaming, which is indeed making extremely impressive inroads regardless of my disinterest in it.

Women are wonderful. Just as wonderful as men. And they're wonderfully diverse. Just like men. There are plenty of female gamers, and I think of them as fellow human beings first and foremost. Sex is irrelevant.

...sometimes my compulsion to use the more scientifically proper "sex" over "gender" causes some awkward lines here and there. I trust you know what I meant. :P

Yes, why wouldn't I want to play with female players? Gender has nothing to do with anything. I really hate it when gamers treat other gamers differently because of gender.

Not sure what the "Female Gamer Demographic" is, but I do believe that females make up a good portion of gamers.

And I think you should add a "I'd rather not say" or "other" option or something to the third question.

Nitpicking again:

This really has nothing to do with gamers and more to do with group dynamics.

For whatever reason humans just HAVE to go "I'm in group A. You are in Group B. I hate you because you are not a member of Group A!". The groups don't even have to mean anything, and people will follow that same pattern.

It's slightly ridiculous.

Female Gamer Demographic is basically a poll about who is female gamer or not. but it would tell if a survey was accurate or not, but it's up to everyone who votes or not. it's their opinion that they casted as a vote.

that whole part is why I think male gamers are discriminting female gamers because of their skills.

I suppose that makes sense. I could understand something like nationality or age (my country is better than yours, or I'm older than you so I'm better), but I still don't quite understand why people much such a big deal with gender. People wouldn't split into groups of hair color or height, would they?

Ever since the Super Nintendo days, my best friend was a girl & we spent all our time on that thing. My female cousins had their own snes and several games. Now that I'm older all the girls I'm friends with & the SO's of the rest of friends are really into gaming... Both table-top and systems, & each with their own preferences as to systems & series. I've never seen gaming as a hobby that women weren't active with. Maybe the industry never saw them till now, or maybe it pretended not to see them, but they were always around. I don't doubt the demographic, though I do think women are playing with more systems and games than they realize.

It has more to do with the way Western society has developed.

For whatever reason (I know the reasons, but this isn't the place) men are made to be the more leadership roles while women are placed into a more subservient role (regardless of how true that is in actuality).

As I mentioned in the other thread, this leads to parents treating boys/girls differently, telling them which activities are acceptable for their gender, telling boys that they are better than girls, etc etc.

Depending on how far you want to nitpick.

There are times when where society has split people into different groups based on hair color (for some reason I think this is where the whole being a "ginger" is bad came out - though that may be the result of some popular show), eye color, height, etc. Nazi Germany may not have separated people based on this, but they definitely had a whole eugenics program dedicated to who people could breed with based on those.

I also don't really recall the specifics of the Rwanda genocide, but it may have been related to height. (Or possibly slight variation of skin color)?

If there's any amount of difference between people you can bet that people have been discriminated on because of it.

Go 6 feet brunette gamers! Rest of you are scrubs.

Case in point.

I think the reason most guys don't notice female gamers online is because most females has either neutral or male user names, so it's nearly impossible to tell unless they are speaking on their headphones, I don't speak on mine, especially because I know it annoys those little teenage brats, those boys when I win over them and they find out I'm a woman, I can hear them scream "biiiiiiitch, you're going down, what a f*****ng w***e" etc., they don't succeed of course LOL, I take them down again... ;) But my point is that it might be the reason why most female gamers doesn't reveal themselves.

But there are much more of us than you guys realize.

I don't like gaming with those girl gamers that are all in your face about it and think they're something special.

That demographic is bs.

My gender is irrelevant.

What's wrong with him saying this? He likes girl gamers, he thinks it's attractive, that's not a bad thing, it just means that a guy/him likes it when he can have that in common with his girl.

Yes, I have no problems with that part of his post, but then there's this part here.

They're basically asking me out.

Having been in numerous communities, where there have been girl gamers, there is always that ONE guy that thinks that the girl is asking him out by just talking to him....

Things just get creepy from there...
