Girls bring drama, plain and simple. The only multiplayer games I play are MMOs and I've encountered many female gamers and have been in raiding guilds with many. Out of all the girl gamers I raided with, I can honestly say only two were truly great players, and even one of those two brought relationship drama with her.

A good portion of the girl gamers I've met were in leadership positions in guilds, either as the GM or a GM's girlfriend/wife and it's never ended well for the guild.

As for the study, it's "accurate" if you count mobile games at the same level as core gaming. It still doesn't mean that women are an important demographic in strategy gaming or FPS for example.

Yep, contrary to the fantasies of a lot of male gamers, "gurl gamers" are more trouble than their worth. Most of the battles I had with the ex were related to gaming incidentally.

This. 100% this. A thousand times this.

You took the words out of my mouth. Being an avid online gamer myself who played many MMORPGs with both my male friends, female friends, family and even my girlfriends, I can say I've experienced exactly the same **** as you just described. Hell, my own girlfriend was the very sole reason I eventually left my guild in Guild Wars 2 and decided to create my own guild. No women are allowed in my guild and so far it has worked out marvelously. No drama in my guild, only fun, ass-kicking (in PvP) and more fun. Creating a male-only guild with my best friends in Guild Wars 2 was the best decision I ever made in that game.

Good for them. Let the women have their own female-only guild. That means less drama for us men in the other guilds.

this is a thread that is within a poll that will further discussion that is already discussed in the "Adult females surpass teenage boys as the largest gaming demographic in the US"

Well I'm very  sure I'd much rather play with an adult female than a teenage boy. Around the time I stopped being a teenager I started hating teenagers;p

I've spend the entire day playing video games with an adult female gamer person come to think of it! I'm very happy she evidently is an adult female gamer rather than a teenage boy!

As I'm sure others have noted, the study is full of it. Like as not, said adult female gamers inflating the group are mostly busy with surprisingly popular hyper casual smart phone/facebook junk games.  Ie, in my books, study is inflated inaccurate and useless by huge pile  of non-gamers playing non-games.

That said, there are plenty of female gamers busy playing core games as well. In fact, i bet gender difference among core gamers  is so close to 60-40 now that we can officially declare it has stopped being some exciting, big deal. This means that It is actually  perfectly 100%  alright to stop being an obnoxious social justice warrior for girl gamers.

Why would you not play a game with a female? Gender does not determine gaming skills, and not playing with another gender is just silly and pretty dam sexist.

Because only female gamers can create drama, I love this logic so much. I have not laughed as hard as this for awhile.

I love it when people put words in my mouth I never said.

Not only women create drama, but they surely are a whole lot better at it than men. Whenever there is drama in an MMO it's almost always about the women in the guild. Sometimes it's relationship drama, sometimes it's female rivalry drama and sometimes it's little nerds not knowing how to deal with women, but whatever it is, the women are always at the center of it. But not anymore. Ever since I created my male-only guild it has been smooth sailing ever since. No drama whatsoever.

I still play with women online, I just don't want them in my guild. That way I can decide to just step away from them whenever they start acting up or being dramatic without my friends and my guild being dragged into their BS.

There are good gamers and bad gamers and it has nothing to do with gender. Ugh.

I've seen far more drama and immaturity from male gamers then females. I've also seen guilds fare better when a female took over. You seem to just be taking some bad experiences and making it like this always happens.  That is false. .

it's not some bad experiences House, it's literally every guild I've been in up to date with the sole exception of my most recent guild which I started myself and has the no-women-allowed policy.

And don't make me laugh about guilds getting better when women took over. Women in general can't lead for ****. I've seen guilds going down the gutter exactly because a woman took the leadership position. Your experiences are just exceptions, but the exceptions prove the rule. Trust me, I'm a ****ing nerd who has played a ton of online games and MMOs and who has been in a ton of guilds, with and without women.

I have no problem playing a game online with either women or men. I don't really care what gender you are so long as you're a good sport, mature, and prepared to get a good butt whoopin.

I think the problem some people have here is dealing with immaturity online, and that can go for both genders. There's probably just as many immature men out there as there are immature women. I think it's just about surrounding yourself around the right like-minded people online, which is why gender is irrelevant for me.

This exactly! When have you heard a woman screaming b!tch and wh0re after a guy every time she looses to him? Zero times! And they say women are the dramatic ones? I think not....

And with that, it proves that men and women can get whiny and immature no matter where you go. Gender has sh!t to do with it and it's more about the person. Some places will have immature men (no wonder why i hear more women being called b!tches and other nice "gems") and some other immature women.

They say women bring more drama and are whiny, yet i've heard more men calling out on women and making sexist remarks like you said, hell there are even articles about it and many women hide their gender due to this. So who's the real immature here? *shrugs*. You can't really know which gender is more immature and which is not.

Gender has a lot to do with it. More so, the fact that many men in our society don't know how to deal with women (especially not the hardcore gamer nerds) and the fact that that our society doesn't teach men how to be men and how to deal with women, is also a major factor here.

You're right, many men these days are indeed little whiny wimps, and that is a problem. They also think women are these amazing creatures to be treasured and to be put on a pedestal, especially a woman who plays games is often treated like she's some kind of trophy, while really she's just a geek who sh!ts and pisses just like all us male gamers. It's this attitude and this pedestalization of women which is also a big cause of why men and women often don't go well online (hell, not just online, it happens in real-life too).

Sexism isn't the problem here, women are no longer treated as lesser creatures. The opposite is true. Women are being put on pedestals and gamer girls are being treated as special snowflakes just because they play videogames.

I for one would say I'm a male feminist, a true feminist that is, in the sense that I am for true equality between men and women. If we want true equality, we should work both ways. Sexism needs to stop, but putting women on pedestals and treating them as special snowflakes needs to stop too. What we need to do is teach boys of our generation how to be real proper men and not being little socially awkward wimps who have no clue how to deal with women, while at the same time we should teach the girls of our generation that they aren't special princesses and men or society doesn't owe them anything just for being a female.

I agree with you on that post btw.

We just should not generalize. There are good and bad gamers, women and men. Our experiences might tell us the opposite but it's nice to hear the others since they also have different experiences from ours.

Don't get me wrong I still think women are often the source of drama in online games, I'm just trying to explain that I don't entirely blame it on the women. Us men are at fault too for giving these online gaming women special treatment. I try to make a habit out treating everyone like "one of the guys". When I'm playing with a girl, I don't treat her any different than I treat my guy friends. I also have a policy that I don't want to deal with your drama while playing online videogames. That goes for both men and women. Bring your inner geek, but please leave your real-life drama at home when you come online to play with me. Most men accept that policy. Most women do too, but there are always a few who still try to bring their drama to my online gaming experience. But those women usually just get blocked or ignored by me.

The reality of these "gamer gurls" is the exact opposite of what those male gamers think they are. A lot of them are just the female equivalent of an omega male neckbeard with various emotional issues(social awkwardness, various insecurities, etc) and the mutual gaming interest actually creates a lot of conflict in the end(as I've experienced personally and some friends of mine).

I keep these dames at arms length distance and treat them just like dudes(perfect antidote for "gamer gurl" attention whoring).
