Tbh I never saw the other demons as being male but I guess some of them do look sort of male and they have male sounding voices.

The only one with actual "male" features is the pride demon, and even that is just so hyper ripped with muscles that it loses its gender identification imo. It's probably the deep booming voice that makes people think its male.

Which is funny, because we've seen both a male pride demon and female pride demon who both use the same body model and just different voices.

Well, those fanart demons are certainly tempting to me....

I would like to see this sort of thing. It would be cool and, indeed, more representative of the fact that, in terms of sexual attraction, many are attracted to masculine forms as opposed or in addition to female ones. Like me (gay guy here).

That being said, I understand if it isn't in the cards for this game. I do not know what goes into creating models for a game and all the other work required, and I understand that they can't simply create assets without taking away from other things. Doesn't mean it isn't important, just that they only have so much time and money to go around.

Hopefully someday we'll have a greater variety of demons in general.

I'm a straight male gamer (Yes, those exist!), why should a desire demon be male in my playthrough? Wouldn't it be a demon of aversion then?

You know, I hate this male or female desire demon discussion, Bioware should simply go ahead and make desire demons look like giant, genderless chocolate muffins. Everyone would be happy.

Except diabetics. Screw those people.

Not entirely. If you ask her how she did it, she says "Equal parts blood and desire." Unless it's 100% blood magic, I'd say that constitutes a definite lack of player agency.

People always say that it doesn't matter what shape the demon has. If it really doesn't matter, make them male.

Why not just make them featureless or like slenderman? Also, it was 100% blood magic when she forced you to tell her who sold her out. Normal conversation doesn't involve someone straining their voice like the words are being pulled out of them.

This could work as a desire demon,

faceless_demon_by_fabutski-d57tddk.jpg

It just casts illusions to show off the many things you'd desire, such as wealth, power, happiness, friendships, etc, while having no solid form of its own.

Because Cassandra might be tempted by a Desire Demon and she's not into breasts or feminine features? If we're talking about just your playthrough....since you do have straight females too (yes those exist...)

Just sayin....

The funny thing to me is that we've seen a whole slew of new demon models that were created for DAI. I guess they're all necessary, but really? Time will tell I suppose.

I'm a gay male gamer. Why in the world should a desire demon be female in my playthrough?

The sloth demon kinda already has that domain, if you remember how it tried to give all your companions what they desire in the Fade quest. Its goal is just a little different in that giving them what they desire is only a means to induce sloth.

Why should desire demons have a sexuality at all?

You could as well show a blank sheet of paper. Desire demons simply don't work, desires vary a lot from person to person, more than fear, terror or rage.

Right now I desire a chocolate muffin, I want desire demons to be hovering, horned and malevolent chocolate muffins.

I'm a gay male gamer. Why in the world should a desire demon be female in my playthrough?

My point exactly.

Why should desire demons have a sexuality at all?

It's obviously supposed to be a demon of base, carnal, primitive and sexual desire. It's obvious thats what they were going for when designing the desire demon - clearly a sexualized demon. But it's sexual in a female way. Why wouldn't a desire demon take the form of something of a more masculine feature?

Anyway in answer to the question, yeah that would be kwl I guess.

I think changing all the desire demons based on your sexual orientation is a bit much and not really needed but they could just have a few of them looking male. Or they could have the occasional male looking desire demon if it's story based, like for example if one is seducing a woman or a gay male character.

I don't think it's a massive issue though.

Well not really. I doubt wynne's desire was to be surronded by dead children. Or shales desire was to be trapped immobile forever. Or morrigan to be stuck with Flemposter. Or Zevren to be stuck on a torture rack reliving his initiation to the crows. Or oghren's to be stuck as a mockery and a joke in orzumar.

See what I'm saying here? Their physical bodies were stuck in the real world catatonic, and it had desire demons working for it, or one at least. The whole illusion thing isn't something exclusive to sloth demons mind you, but its method of leaving you catatonic while trapping your mind in the fade seems to be its true MO.

Desire demons work less on the principle of imprisonment and more on the principle of bribery. And since bribes can be many things, so too should a desire demon be many things at once. In fact all of the demons should really, rage demons, sloth demons, and possibly hunger demons as well, seem to all have this philosophy in their designs, but not desire and pride for some reason, which are one of the few with distinctive models.

At least until DAI comes out and gives everything a unique form I guess. Though I'm not complaining, the more the merrier I say.

It shouldn't have to but it does already.

I guess we have to remember that sexual desire is not all the desire demon is interested in and they usually use illusions to draw in their victims anyway. That said there is no reason why it's true form needs to be one specific gender or any gender.

So female characters are too expensive for development and now apparently male characters are too expensive too...Are we going to be playing games with nothing but amorphous genderless blobs from now on? Because apparently anything else is too time consuming for developers.

So here is how DA4 will look. :P

The point isn't that they should, it's that they already do.  If the negative emotion of overwhelming desire is to be embodied by a well-endowed, scantily clad female, why should women get to enjoy all the sexist stereotypes.  Perhaps there will be a buff, half-dressed, overtly male demon of ego or something?  Let's spread the dismissiveness around, people.

Oddly enough, few if any desire demons in game seem to preform sexual deeds of desire. Conners offered to keep his dad alive, The one with wilhelms daughter seemed to offer company in a stressful time, the one you faced to free conner offered you magical power and gold before it did sex, and the templar desire demon offered a normal happy familiy, even the one you face in DA2 with the exiled prince dlc was all over the place with wealth, power, and general debauchery then sex itself.

And yet the issue just loops back to whether it has boobs or dongs.

Shouldn't desire demons' appearances be based on the custom character's sexual preferences? To that end, shouldn't we be able to select our custom characters' sexual preferences during character creation?

Wet nightmares then. And I'm sure one gay dissapointment to his familiy has more dream power then the collective whole of every sleeping person in thedas. I'm so sure that's how it works.

I seem to have had a selective memory about those dreams.  And I never once saw Zevran's for some reason.

Sloth is the one who is explicitly stated not to have a form of its own in the codex, though, even if the shapes it takes aren't much desire based at all, evidently. It might be kind of redundant if they were all like that, except for different reasons.

You gotta earn it through roleplaying. Just like the badass weapon and armors, and the friendships or rivalries of your companions.

True I suppose, I just think it follows more given the nature of their place of residence. Its a world entirely influenced, controlled, and possibly even maintained, through the subconscious minds of the people residing on thedas. That sounds like it'd be one of the more horrific and chaotic places, and so I figured its inhabitants would reflect that. It's not like everyone has the same desire, anger, sloth, hunger, and pride, so all those different ideas clashing with one another to give demons a form would leave them either horrifically Cthulhu like, or just shapeless and formless and taking one when it suits them, being completely adapt to their world.

I'm sure nipple chains and sensual chest caressing during conversation don't have anything to do with the focus being drawn to her boobs.
