PayPal

As we are pretty close to making the order and will have the price soon we can get on to setting up a PayPal. The only thing I have a problem with myself setting it up is that I live in New Zealand and have absolutely no experience in doing international bank transfers. Is there anyone that would be willing to set up the PayPal that lives a heck of a lot closer than I do?

Sorry, I'm in Australia so actually I'm closer to you than Bioware. ![]()
I've sent money to places before but I've never set it up myself - I'm a bit rubbish!

<--- Australia as well.
I thought Loom might be willing/said she might as she lives near Bioware. I might be wrong however.

If someone who has done something like this before could talk me through it, I would be willing to do so, since I live in the area. School doesn't start til next week, but it'll be slow for the first few weeks and hopefully the process for making this all work won't take too long.
I think setting up a Paypal is an easy process, but the last time I tried to set up a personal one for myself it deposited two small amounts of money into my bank account that I was supposed to input into their site as a security measure? It was really shifty, and no one I knew that already had a paypal account beforehand had had to do that, and I went to my bank and asked and they said that they had never come across anything like that before. So in the end, I ended up not doing it, and then a month later my bank statement came in and I didn't see any changes, and then a few weeks after that I got an e-mail from Paypal that said that the time period had expired and they took back however much money they had put in. Has that happened to any of you? Have things changed? Was I nearly scammed? Like I said, it was really shifty.

I'm so sorry that I can't help more with this. Every time I use PayPal it is already set up by the websites (e.g. Steam). No idea what we have to do here. Whom did we ask about the cupcakes (?) that were delivered to BioWare? Maybe this user could help?
Edit: I meant DragonRacer. Just had to look up the name

I've set up a few Paypal accounts over the years and this was usually part of the process. My newest Paypal account that I set up a couple months ago did this. It was two deposits of $0.02 and $0.07, something like that. Never had any problems.

Okay, I think we should really get things going
.
I just looked at the PayPal website and it has this guide. I dunno if this helps somehow. Also, I remembered that I bought a wireless adapter a few weeks ago and the provider charged me with 0,01 Cents to see if my account is real. While this has nothing to do with PayPal, it seems to be a common security measure. Unfortunately, I don't quite remember what I had to do when I opened my PayPal account but I'm almost certain that I had to transfer some money from my regular account to my PayPal account before I could use it. However, that was years ago and things might have changed.
Once the PayPal account is set up it should be an easy process. Apparently the owner of the PayPal account can simply request money from anybody with an email address. I have never done that but it doesn't sound complicated.
My other suggestion is that we ask Dragon Racer how they did it if there is still a problem with PayPal.
Edit because of typos. Gnnn.

I'm not sure how things are going at the moment because it seems like Boom has been offline for about a week now

Based on what she wrote above she doesn't want to set up the PayPal account anyway, so we could do that in the meantime to speed things up. Then we would only need the final costs from the bakery.

Why do we need to set up a new account? Someone who lives in Canada could just share theirs, and we will all transfer money to it. Just tell us what currency to use.
I assumed that loominousfish, who lives in Canada, doesn't have an account yet. I don't think that we have a lot of Canadian Cullenites so it's awesome that she wants to help here because we have no idea how international bank transfers work with PayPal. Otherwise I could share my German PayPal account but I doubt it that it really helps.
Good point with sending out messages.

I'm looking at international fees on paypal site:
Payment: Fee:
$0.00 CAD - $3,000.00 CAD 3.9% + $0.30 CAD
So if I send 20 CAD, I'll pay about 1 CAD as a fee. If I send 40 CAD, that will be 1.86 CAD as a fee. And I think it doubles if you extract money from you bank card, not the paypay account, because they take a fee for the interaction with the bank too.
So yeah, it's better if we have someone in Canada to collect the money, so we don't have to pay the fee 2, or even 4 times.
I just thought Loomi had a paypal account already, sorry. I misread her post.

Funny enough, I am a Canadian with a paypal account! Is paypal the easiest way to buy the cakes?
I've only ever received funds from non Canadian sources, so if you sent me say $20 I would receive $20 Canada and then you get charged extra yeah? I only use this account once in a while so I don't want to have random fees added to it lol.

Hey if you need someone to test it...like send you a set amount of money and see how PayPal handles it, I'd be willing to test it out with you. (I live in the States, btw.)

We can certainly try once we know that it's safe for me to just go ahead with this lol I don't want to assume Boom hasn't done anything yet. I also don't want this to go on too long...should we wait a couple more days and see? It takes no time to send and receive money.
Do we have a list of people contributing money?

I think every member of this group wanted to contribute but like Gala said, maybe we should check back with everybody to see if they are still on board.
Edit: I suggest that we wait two or three more days - until Monday or Tuesday but I could also try to write Boom a message.
Edit 2: I wrote a message to Boom but I don't know if she will get an email notification.

Does anyone know what's up with Boom? I haven't heard from her in over a week, and she's been the one going back and forth between Cakes by Candace and stuff.
And thanks very much for the information about PayPal! I'm going to go and make an account right now, although GiggleLam, if you don't mind us going through you then I will defer to whatever is best.

Hey guys.
So sorry! My daughter came down with a really bad case of croup and was admitted to hospital quite a few times over the past how ever many weeks it has been (kind of lost track of time) and I just haven't had time to get online. It would be great if someone in Canada wants to set up the paypal account, it would very much be appreciated! I will send an email off to cakes by candice today with the pictures and what we want and get and get a price for you guys.

Hey no worries! Family is more important!
Is there a way we can send a mass message to this group? Just to see who's still on board with this? We can just use my paypal for this. Makes it easier and we don't have to wait the few days to confirm a new account!

I *think* you can only send a message to everyone by writing to one member and adding the others. Let's say you want to write me. Go to the list of members and click on the "Send private message" button next to my name. A new window opens in which you can invite others to the conversation.
