OK great, signatures it is.  Owl are you right to organize the PMs to the contributors asking for their preferred moniker?  If so, can I make a suggestion that you include a phrase that says 'if you DON'T want to sign your username please contact me by X because the default username signature will be included otherwise.  Also we need to get hold of Shadow so she knows to include the list at the bottom in her letter or it's just not going to happen.

 

Messages, so my understanding is that some contributors specifically want a facility to send their words to Bioware and have the message associated with the gift.  If we go with the twitter option, I don't think the #IPlayBioware tag is going to accomplish this for them.  It's already being used as a general love-fest, I think we need to come up with another tag that specifically links it to this event.  I would prefer something that used Cullen or Companions in the title because really our essential message has been - 'thanks for your brilliant companion characters, we appreciate your work.'

 

Gal's right as soon as we hit the day we all have to spam the tag.  I also think it should be mentioned in Shadow's letter or told to Allen, so the company is aware of what we are trying to do.  You can really use it to say anything you like but favorite companion moments, what they have meant to you etc seems appropriate.  Just say something and use the tag to get the thing moving.  

 

I have to head out now (I'm absolutely late for everything now) but I'll check back in later and see if there's anyway I can help out.

I think I was the only one who raised the question of everyone getting to sign being unfair to the people who contributed, and I didn't actually mean it that way at all -- I had just meant to argue that at a minimum the people who contributed here had earned the right to put their forum name on it along with the blanket Cullenites name. If anyone has a problem with inviting non-cake-group Cullenites in, please speak up, but I definitely do not!

 

I'm in favor of sending a message to everyone in the group asking for their preferred username and if at all possible a short note by, say, 11:59 PM PDT Thursday night, posting the same message on the Cullen thread, e-mailing Shadow and/or Allan early Friday AM with whatever we get in response to that (and all the usernames regardless of whether they responded, unless they specifically request anonymity), and also doing the hashtag Friday afternoon / evening after the cake is delivered, in case anybody misses the note deadline.

I'm already half asleep so just a quick answer. I didn't mean you, Owlfruit. Actually, I meant no one in specific and I don't remember now who brought this up (and I'm too lazy to look). Though it is a valid point and I agree that people who don't feel comfortable with inviting non-group members should say something nowish.

As for notes, someone else make that call because I think I'm on one far end of the spectrum there.

 

As for the hashtag, I vote for sticking to #IPlayBioWare since they're already reading it, but adding #Cullenites so there's the connection to the cake. But I'm fine with anything as long as it's not so long that we won't have room to express a complete thought.

 

So the only question now is if we want to send our notes with the letter or on twitter? We are making progress . Well, if we are going to sign the letter anyway we might as well send the notes with it . 

 

Actually, an edit to that: I'll wait to send out the messages until someone makes an executive decision on notes so that we don't have to send messages twice if we decide that's a go. Also, can I ask the thread people to sign as well?

Anyone wishing to be anon can say so and I'll tag it Cullen Thread Forumite/Cullenite (Anon) or something similar. When you post in the thread please just say we are sending something as a thank you and don't post what we're actually sending, just in case a dev wanders by, we don't want the surprise ruined for them.

I'm heading back out the door again now but I think either option 1 or 2.  Opening up messages to accompany the gifts essentially makes the whole twitter thing redundant.  Also administratively your life is going to be much easier if you can focus on 30 messages instead of potentially 100s.

I think we are still signing from all the #Cullenites.. there will just be a few extra personal messages. It shouldn't look like it's just from those few. We could also ask Shadow to specifically state in the letter that it's from ALL Twitter, Cullen Thread and Tumblr Cullenites.

I wish we could have come up with something that wouldn't have disappointed anyone, but we were running out of time.

If you could do that, that would be totally awesome. I know some people don't check their twitter / tumblr / LJ / BSN more than once a week, but given that this is just a call for really short notes and not fanart or anything, I still think we'll get really good results with three days of lead time. Definitely worth a try, anyway. EDIT: And the hashtag might last all weekend, giving people extra time.

We could put "from Cullen fans everywhere" instead of Cullenites. Honestly.. I've used it a few times, but I'm not a fan of that term myself as it makes us sound like groupies. But I'm good with however we want to identify the group.

Gal, if it helps any, I don't think the fact that it was important to some contributors to be identified as such mitigates the idea of unity in the group.  I haven't read a single criticism of the inclusion of the wider 'Cullenites' (just how in hell did we end up with this name....I guess it doesn't matter, it IS how the supporters are identified in the larger community.) in the card or anywhere.  That rather generously speaks of a spirit of willingness to include others regardless of their financial contribution to the project.  My interpretation is rather that some among us are so pleased to have the opportunity to provide tangible support to those that they admire that they really want to identify themselves independently as someone for whom these characters or games have meaning.

 

I don't think we aren't united as a group, I think people are just delighted to be able to be a part of this gift and want the Devs to know that they specifically appreciate them.  Anyway, this is just my take on it.  

 

PS -that's an awesome off the cuff anon username.

Twitter people are being instructed right not to start spaming #BioWareThanksgiving on Friday at 8 am Edmonton time. I also directed them to pade 3200 to read about the whole thing, because twitter is not good for long explanations. If they decide to send messages, I think they will do it through bsn.
