I didn't notice a thread on this one, but yeah basically I just was curious how other people feel about the potential in this game.

Personally, I liked any number of the Dynasty Warriors games, I think I've played 3, 4, and 6, but the problem is that they were similar enough that basically don't even know if it matters what number you give after each one. They were particularly fun co-op but at the same time for me personally this was many years ago and I can't say I've revisited the warriors genre since.

The overall impression I've gotten is that it is basically a warriors game but with Zelda characters and worlds, so it isn't really building on the Zelda mythos in any particular way. In this sense it's more like a warriors game with a lot of references to Zelda, rather than a proper Zelda game. Oh cool, X character! Oh yeah, Y setting!

That's a lot of negative though, and on the other hand it seems like because it's a collaboration with Nintendo rather than just a stand alone production there would be a lot of interchange to make it seem like an interesting hybrid project. I haven't really seen a lot of information on the game either way. Hm, so does anyone want to share their interest??

If you don't know which one I'm talking about it's this thing.

I hope they make a Wii U bundle for it since I waited too long to get the Wind Waker bundle.

I would've been if it came out on any other console, I'm a sucker for anything made by Koei.

Kinda. It looks fun but I haven't played dynasty warriors since I was11 so it may be worse than I remember.

I'm a huge 3D Zelda fan, but I'm not excited for this game. Many of my buddies on campus and on GameFAQs are really hyped, but I'm not. It's not really a sleight against it; moreover, I'm just really niche. I can do Dynasty Warriors or, preferably, Samurai Warriors or Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, in short spurts, with friends. But I wouldn't really pick up a Koei game for more than ~$10-15, because I know I'll play it for about as many hours before I'm unequivocally bored.

A big part of the push here, especially in marketing, is to get the core Japanese gamer base more into Zelda. It's bigger in the West, actually. This should help shore up more of a fandom, as it will cross Zelda flavor into a not-inconsiderable beat-'em-up collective out East.

Are you familiar with the Dynasty Warriors brand name? It's that, but Zelda-themed, instead. There's more to it, but that's essentially the best go-to blurb on the game. Koei has branched the Warriors name in myriad directions from its original (and still its most iconic) look of the Three Kingdoms era of China, to Feudal Japan, to several anime franchises, to a crossover universe, to this.

If you aren't familiar with Warriors, it's basically a unified gameplay concept in which you control a character and battle through hordes -- we're talking thousands -- of enemy soldiers, plus their generals and whatnot. There are basic strategic aspects, which typically boil down to which paths to take in the vast maps, since various allies will be under siege, various objectives will lead to somewhat different outcomes on occasion, that kind of thing. Western critics deride the franchise for being very basic in its approach and static in its sequel execution, but in Japan, it's a beloved long-running gig.

I'm thinking I will pick this up eventually, when the price drops to sub-$20. Being that it's not a Nintendo internal property, that'll actually happen at some point. Couch co-op is the only kind of multiplayer I enjoy, and I have a few friends I know I could throw down on a few nights worth of enjoyment over if I tell them, "yes, it's another Koei game. But this time there's Zelda, and Ghirahim."

Why would it come out on another system but the wii-u? It's still a Zelda product. Just because it's a crossover does not mean it can go on other systems, it's the same reason Fire EmblexSMT is also only coming out on the Wii-U since FE is owned by Nintendo.

You can probably watch some gameplay vids for Ghirahim on youtube,  I know there's a few for Zant(a character I can't stand but dam his playstyle looks amazing) and Ganondorf(who has a kickass mane and looks badass)

Oh yeah, I've followed the game somewhat closely for someone not particularly hyped, haha. A lot of my friends on my other, more permanent-esque internet hangout spot are posting all that stuff daily.

I knew that already, Its just I'm not getting a Wii-U just for this game. That's why I answered I would've been excited if it came out on any other console.

I even have a Wii U but I'm still not 100% sure whether to get it. It kind of seems like a lot of a smash em up type of game. On the other hand, if there's even a small bit of legitimately Zelda universe-style world/narrative ideas thrust into it, well maybe. Also, they just kept announcing more and more characters to the point where I'm like... ok... it seems like their putting a lot of effort into this one way or another.

It's kind of the same thing with Super Smash, I haven't basically played since the N64 version because the successors were all kind of the same. Yet they just keep releasing characters and building so much energy it feels like might as well get it, it's like the video game version of the Oscars or something, a celebration more than a real substantive experience necessarily.

Kinda sad, you know? Missing out on the great and polished games, besides, what better way to play with mates in the same area! That's Nintendo for you!

Really? You like blood and gore, play Call of Duty? Well, I don't know what to say about that... It disgusts me how almost 90% of the American population likes Fps...

I do prefer horror games, which should only use the dark and gritty setting. Where's the bright and vibrant of colorful life games? They bring out the potential, which is why Nintendo games tend to age very well, unlike Sony or Microsoft games.

I apologise if this pisses you all off, but, that's how I feel. Also, I dislike video game devs who are lazy, like UbiSoft, Electronic Arts, RockStar and many other small AAA game companies, only because they refuse to bring out the full potential of a console, and blame the effin consumer base for their game not selling well. Know why? Because they say that console is too weak. Is it really? Just look at the Wii, it had some of the greatest games in history, and is still the highest selling video game console (3nd or 4rd, I believe. Not entirely sure, correct me if I'm wrong).

I guess you don't like Nintendo games because they're not dark and gritty, just my assumptions.

Back on topic, I'm quite curious as to what TK have in store for Hyrule Warrior players. I know we haven't seen everything yet, and the other day they announced they would support the game for a long term (long period?)

I only hope that they eventually bring in Ocarina of Time to the game as well as Saria, Nabooru, Malon and the twin witches (forgot their names). And the Cucco Lady.

^This is why people don't like Nintendo fans.

Not a fan? Then you're a bloodthirsty Sociopath playing COD all day. Get off your supposed high horse. Nintendo hasn't made anything of real interest since Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl.

Then they started doing the New Super Mario Crap and I stopped caring. This is the first legitimately interesting thing (and Smash 4) that Nintendos done in my mind for 6 years.

Also unrelated, but stop Necroing threads.

Wow, so insulting, much assumptions

You shouldn't assume what I like or anyone else interests. I don't even play Call of Duty or even that many fps's nor am I that into the whole dark and gritty stuff.

At release, Agitha and generic blue-haired anime character make it in but not Nabooru or Saria?

Get off your supposed high horse. Nintendo hasn't made anything of real interest since Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl.

This part in particular I disagree with. Two of my favorite games from last-gen were Skyward Sword and Xenoblade.

There's a lot of reason for me to love my Wii U in the coming year. The new Zelda game is a must-have. The Xenoblade semi-sequel is a must-have. Smash is a must-have so long as I can get some friends together for it on a regular basis like with Melee and Brawl. For me, for my niche tastes, that's enough.

I do concur on some of the Nintendo enthusiasm in its core fandom being rather... dismissive, however.

I stated I was looking forward to some stuff. Whether enough it's enough to make me buy a WiiU is too early to tell.

It's just for me, Nintendo lost their steam around 2008, and never really regained it.

Skyward I didn't like and I never played XenoBlade. Though I heard it was good.

Ah, well I hope they do start cranking out some stuff that looks good to you. The concept phase for the new Zelda game sounds phenomenal from what little we've heard, but of course it's entirely too early to get too hyped just yet.
