If I was an Elf?

I think I'd try to find the Dalish, had I not been born among them.

Then, I'd become a hunter. Or, you know. Try to.

Swords and bows. The second most interesting thing to me, I dare say. Right after firearms. And hunting.

If I was a Dwarf, I'd run to the surface. And regret I'm not an Elf.

As a Qunari, I guess I'd have a chance of becoming one of the Beresaad. Or Antaam... At least I'd have no doubts about my purpose.

As a Human, I'd just... you know. Wonder why I'm not an Elf.

I would probably be that guy who gave the protagonist a quest and be killed by the end of it. My purpose in life was to give the protagonist a quest.

If I was just transported there and knew everything I do now. I would start by making my living as either a cook, a doctor or a low level scholar who wrights letters for the illiterate (of which there are assuredly many) or maybe an artist. I'm unqualified for most of those in the real world but I figure I have to have at least as much medical knowledge as any doctor of that time and I can cook things they haven't even dreamed of yet(though finding some supplies will be difficult) and I'm able to write more than my own name so I'm ahead of most of the commoners in Thedas. I can also draw which most people didn't have time to learn to do back then so that would be a unique skill. Though supplies for that would be tough too. Also I would never stop washing my hands and boiling the crap out of my food, dirty bloody peasants.

If I was just born there, I'd probably be a dirty peasant like most people. Hopefully I'd have a trade. My family are builders, carpenters and electricians in real life so maybe my Thedas family would be carpenters or laborers, or if I'm really lucky engineers/architects.

I'd probably die pretty quickly... I have no idea how to survive in the woods, or mountains or whatever.

But if I manage to survive the wilderness, or if I end up near civilization, I'll check to see if I can read whatever language they speak..
If I can't, I'll try find work as a sevant or cook or whatever. If I fail at that I'll see if I can join the chantry. Or become a beggar/hooker.then I'll live out my sad miserable life. Maybe I'll try to get someone to teach me how to read and become a bit less miserable.

If I can read the language. I'll try to get a job as a tutor or clerk or something. If I fail I'll try the other jobs above, minus beggar/hooker.
Once I have a job I'll save up money while writing books to eventually sell/get published. Maybe I'll write Dragonage fanfiction. Or rewrite lord of the rings. Or science fiction except it 's not fiction cause it'll be abou present day in our world. And so I'll live out my life, doing my very best to stay out of the places where bad **** is happening.

Man typing all this on my tablet was really annoying. Like it takes a minute for it to register a sentence after I've finished typing it.

Well, someone has to supply Wynne with treasures such as The Rose of Orlais, which "appears to be a book about a woman named Lady Talia Lyonne, and her tempestuous romance with the arrogant chevalier, Garren."

I shall be the writer of this book.

Future titles include Untamed Apostate, Undressed Templar, The Chevalier and his Lance and The Ruthless Magister's Virgin Bride.

I would most likely end up dead or doing very poorly. For example if I join the Templar Order, I would have turned into a drooling lunatic, slaughtered the grand cleric and run through the streets of Denerim in my small clothes, I guess.

At first I was going to ask, who would you support in terms of factions in Thedas, but then after listing the majority of the ones I knew I figured that it seemed to boring, so i decided on this.

Just to throw ideas out there, Thedas does seem to have opportunities, maybe because the world is still being defined in contrast to our own. As far as I know safe work is in the minority, while dangerous work is plentiful. A few ideas.

Join the Grey Wardens, they are always looking for recruits because the Darkspawn never stop making more Darkspawn, and their life expectancies tend to be not very long one way or another.

Become a Templar, I don't know if you have to pay a fee to try and join or not but i don't see why more young men and women don't become Templars if they have no prospects. You get 3 square meals a day, shiny robes and a decent education, and thanks to Alistair we know kids from poor families become Templars as well, as he mentions both groups hated him.

Beg to join the Circle even if you aren't a mage. Assuming you can read Thedasian script grab a copy of the Cradicumcadob and tell the First Enchanter how fascinating it is. Maybe because you lack magic you can become something similar to a Tranquil and make magical runes and items.

Join a Mercenary Band like the Blackstone Irregulars, joining the military or the city guard sounds like it takes a certain level of pull or money, but if you can manage to get a sword or a knife or two, you could probably join a mercenary group. I mean the Blackstone Irregulars were lending money in exchange for forced conscription.

Become a Scholar, assuming you can recite much of Thedas history from your head, you could hire yourself out as a Sage to some rich lord to teach his brats history, and script.

if you arent a dwarf or a tranquil you cant enchant anything...

you can make potions or poultices without being a mage, and being a dwarf does not give you special powers they simply know how to fold lyrium into runes likely because they have lived with the stuff and used it in everything they craft and simply figured out the way to do so, also whether or not Dagna shared that knowledge with the Circle when she joined it is something we can hopefully find out in Inquisition.

Probably why the Legion of the Dead wear black.  May as well be a well-dressed corpse.

Damn right, although i personally view myself as decent with blade work, and i have worn armor before at fairs and such so i'd think i would do alright.

If I am being honest... I would probably open a barrel and have one of the dinosaur-sized spiders jump out and kill me. Or I would be the poor npc stuck waiting for eternity to see the Viscount. :L

Thedas isn't a nice place...

Farmer too. I would have a vineyard, one plantation for basic wine (for the commoners and the Chantry), the other to produce dry white wine (gewurtztraminer kind, maybe champagne if I have more lands and become richer). A little bit of truffle hunting on the side to sell it to rich nobles and get on their good sides.

The other peasants would like me too, because I would provide the booze.

Or I could see me being a crazy hermit who lives in the woods, but I don't like insects ramping everywhere :(

If I was a Mage, mercenary/brigand, because who the hell(besides the PC) could stop me.

Non Mage, I'd either murder people in alleyways for their stuff (easiest money in thedas) or probably die in some horrible manner.

Human

Noble or Wealthy:  Probably some sort of military position, captain in the army or something...  if not, then some sort of political job or a merchant.

Peasant:  Blacksmith would be my number one choice, next would be a tailor, or a cook for a tavern or a noble house.... last would probably be a farmer, too out in the open and prone to being burned down by darkspawn, bandits, loghain, and rogue mages and templars.

Elf

Dalish:  By far number one choice, city elves lives suck...  would have to be a hunter, or a craftsman

City Elf:  Welp, would rather die than be a city elf, but if i had to....  i would at least try to apprentice myself to some sort of craftsman, opportunities being very limited for elves.  Like hell i will be a noble's servant, im not one for getting whipped.

Dwarf

Has a caste:  Warrior caste is the first choice, but fighting darkspawn is inevitably fatal...  smith caste next, i like making stuff, what can i say?

Casteless:  Yeah, im heading for the surface

Surface:  This is where i get kinda weird, as a dwarf i know i can drink, so i would earn all my money by wandering to different taverns and challenging people to out drink me....  easy money.

Qunari

Qun:  Welp, whatever they decide im there for

Vashoth:  Merc, definitely a merc

Bonus

Dragon:  Gonna chill up on my mountain and eat stuff, until a random group of people decide to try and kill me....  im just there to be loot

I'd prefer to write fiction that deals with political intrigue and the life of the infamous Orlesian bard, Jacques Lien, the protagonist of such tales as The Apostate who Loved Me, From Tevinter with Love, Lyrium Idols Are Forever, Thedas Is Not Enough and Qunraker.

Hmmmm that's a hard one, I like books and history and rediscovering and preserving things from the past and I'm hoping to become an Archaeologist in the future, so quite possibly a scholar but I don't do working with children- I like them, I just can't work with them-, so maybe researching ruins and such and I like travelling so there is that.

I'm going to need to learn to defend myself if I'm going ruin hopping and travelling, so first up is earning money to get me started/hire Mercs, then finding a weapon to fight with. so... oh and I'm quick at picking up enough of another language to get by/hold conversations and I'm a good cook...so learned adventurer.

Depends on how adaptable I turn out to be. No idea, but the worst aspect of a transfer would be the comparable lack of medical knowledge. So most likely I'll die from some everyday disease Thedas doesn't know how to treat. Or go mad from the fleas.

Surviving that, I would probably tell the people of mainland Thedas how to make gunpowder to give them an edge against the qunari. Which will get me killed by the qunari.

Or speak out my mind once too often, and get killed by the local powers-that-be.

Or turn out to be a mage and kill myself by inadvertantly summoning fire.

If all those horrible deaths don't happen, I may get by as a scholar or advisor to some minor nobleman or -woman, or a teacher to their kids. Anything will do where I don't need to do hard physical work on a daily basis. And if I'm a mage and manage to survive my magic's first manifestation, I can only hope I end up in Tevinter. It's hard and dangerous, but anything beats being a second-class citizen. An inability to move around freely would drive me insane.

I'd try to become a Templar but I'm probably too soft to wear armor. Most likely I'd join an army (whatever army will take me) and either train to become a crossbow archer or to do their every day chores like cleaning horses etc.

Man, my life would be boring.

Poorly i'd imagine

Perhaps a Dalish Hunter at best or if i'm lucky take over some family business. One in a million chance that i'd end up the teacher of some nobles kids, unlikely but it wouldn't be that bad. But probably i'd end up dead one way or another, Thedas is not the nicest of places
