I suspect butch just means something different to straight dudes like me.

Its also hard to think of her as butch when you look at her DA 2 design and Dawn of the Seeker.

Atleast that's how I feel about it.

Well, since lesbians in general exist outside of male sexuality, butch is mostly used as a slur or insult against women that men or even straight women deem to be "ugly" and "too masculine."

I would challenge straight guys to adjust this definition to simply include women with outwardly masculine traits (attractiveness not even being a factor), and not simply a synonym for "ugly woman."

I'm not saying that's what you're doing JediSaint, just saying, this negative definition is probably the one most straight guys come up with when they hear the word butch, and that's not what I mean.

I get what you're saying, but I simply just don't really think that Cass has masculine features.

Maybe a bit of a strong jaw, but I believe they adjusted that.

I wasn't just referring to her physical features, but character traits and features as well. And even if we were just referring to her physical features, I think she is definitely butch, but she also happens to be attractive. Also, if they got rid of Cassandras strong jaw to appease men who said she was ugly, that would be a God damn tragedy.

Cassandra's jaw makes her look more beautiful in my opinion.I don't know why some consider her ugly.

I don't know what the reason was or if they even did it in the first place, but it looked to me like they made it a bit less wide.

I don't think her jaw was strong as opposed to wide. Cassandra has a very fine bone structure. Just look at her nose. Long and thin. And those razor sharp cheek bones! *sigh*

I didn't think you were. But you're right that butch is generally used as a pejorative by straight people against lesbians. That has been my exposure to it anyway. Which is why I find it interesting when women like you or Maria Caliban us it in a positive light.

I don't hear many people complaining about Olivia Wilde's or Angelina Jolie's crazy wide jaws. Since when did wide jaws = ugly on women? lol

I find her strong jaw attractive, so changing it would not appeal to me.

I honestly don't see what's not butch about her, other than she wears eyeliner, lol.

And now we even have people who think that strong and brave woman is a butch, no questions. Magnifique!

Reminds me of a character who said that Carol from TWD's a lesbian just cause she had short hair. Logic? No logic.

My hope in humanity will never be the same.

I understand it's a roleplaying game, but some people don't feel comfortable playing as the opposite sex, and some people like to model their characters after themselves, that's what makes it fun for them.

You can't make things like DA2 (where everyone's a bi and hero-centered) happen again, get over it. You want a female character - go make one. You want to romance a certain straight woman - go make a male one. We have eight (eight!) LIs now, it's more than enough for everybody to find someone they like, it's time to stop this and stop turning a game into some  fanfiction. The more someone think about something like that the it'll more hurt when those dreams won't meet the official canon.

Come to think about it, nothing bothers me more that that in terms of people and their LIs headcanoncs except for those who wants to bang every single one and claims that it's a pretty normal thing, because why not? Because we have elves and mages, why can't we have our peronal harem? Oh, and they all should be just fine with that to boot, no jealousy, no breakups and happily-ever-after.

Seriously, some people just need to spend more time on fanfiction.net it seems.

To be fair, that guy was an idiot. And a creeper.

To be fair, people I mentioned didn't get very far from him.

But seriosly, I doubt someone would've thought about her as a butch seeing her only in Dawn of the Seeker.

So wait... I guess I'm a butch too and was never told? Really, come on.
Behavior wise; Cassandra has to be the way she is for her line of work. I can't stand characters who give in to random whims and completely ignore their duty... As far as im concerned she's good at her job.
So this butch and manly thing makes no sense to me in behavior or appearance. >.>

I think we've established that it depends on your definition of butch.

Well, the women I call butch are actually quite fond of the term as they have no aspirations to traditional femininity.

As for Cassandra, I think if you called her butch she'd run you in and say: "Well, I guess that makes you a b-tch then doesn't it."

Which - ultimately, I think a lot of straight dudes would think is hot.

I seriously doubt that's what she'd do. If Cassandra were the type of sociopath who would stab anyone who "insulted" her, then I doubt she would have made it as far as she has in life.

Meh, no one cares when it's a game where you play a straight guy with his pick of the women, but as soon as the options are expanded and made more inclusive it's suddenly a "dating simulator" or "fanfiction."

It is truly amazing to witness just how little it takes for straight male players to start feeling like a persecuted minority.

Well, I wouldn't mind being catered to. But that's because I'm selfish.
