I find it shameful that the minority I belong to has a tendency to find it perfectly okay to insult straight people when they've fought so hard to obtain the recognition they have.
What gay people forget often I believe - is that we've been complaining for years. Why? Because we had very little - to nothing - to work with. And straight gamers (mainly men I suppose) never had to complain in particular because they had the pick of the litter.
So... now that everybody gains, everybody also has a chance to lose out on something. I'm not sure I "will" be a fan of Dorian... or Bull. And if I want to express disappointment in "another gay mage" or... "a buff Zevran" it's totally okay.
But it's also totally okay for any straight gamer to be bummed that Sera won't be available or that Dorian won't be available for the ladies.
Doesn't mean they want to steal Sera away from the poor downtrodden gays. It just means they like Sera and think she's cool. Maybe for different reasons than lesbians find her attractive.
If, as gays, we want to be equals - we've had the romances shared with us (whether they should be is, like it or not, irrelevant) - and now everyone else gets to share in the complaining that their favorite character might not be available. Not some bitchy: "I'm oppressed, I deserve this character and you should just suck it up cause I've been without for so long." As if any of the young people here really even know what it is to be oppressed as gay. Being equal... is being equal altogether.
I agree with Chari, but amend with - even be nice to those mean bastards.
