Why are you making it sound like long hair is such a big deal in the Dragon Age universe?
Morrigan had her hair up in DA:O

Leliana's hair is short

Merrill's hair is even shorter

Isabela is the only one with long hair, and it's back in a scarf

Edit: Let's throw in some other NPCs that lots of people have shown interest in romantically for good measure: Anora, Sigrun, Velanna, and Dagna
Why is it suddenly so important for female LIs to have long hair in DA:I? Cass's hair is comparable to Merrill's, Sera's is similar to Leliana's, and Josephine has a Morrigan-esque hairstyle. I'd rather have women with short hair than watch long hair meshes constantly clipping into armor.
I find short hair on women to be 100% cute and attractive
most of time it does
that's stupid.
99% of the threads complaining about unattractiveness come from guys. ( male characters aren't super-models ) I find it funny, it is just telling. We ARE that shallow lol.
The female characters are gorgeous. I personally don't understand how just one thing could spoil everything like short hair, baldness or shaved head, while you have a beautiful face and a personality that could please you. How many guys have said, I am not attracted to Vivienne because I don't like shaved hair ? Meh.
I like A LOT the almost chubby face of Sera and her hair, Solas's baldness, Dorian's mustache personally. They look like real guys, with their " imperfection ", ( not sure I'd use this word to be honest... ) We are all imperfect in real life. A big nose in the middle of an attractive face, maybe broken, lips too big or too thin, too many freckles, a skin too pale, bushy eyesbrows. etcs. That doesn't prevent many folks to be able to find you attractive overall. At least from what I have witnessed. It shouldn't be a big deal in a video game either.
Next time, I'd like a stocky woman as an Li, there are many out there I've seen, with gorgeous faces, much more beautiful than some celebrities.
I'm personally glad to see characters who look less like super-models with their absolute perfect face that you only often see in Hollywood. The concept of " escapism " about how all the characters should be all super-beautiful and super model in a video game is actually laughable now that I think about it. This isn't really a selling point to me. ![]()
The fact that people complain a lot about it makes me even more happy to see this happening. I wasn't aware how we were so stuck in ideals so superficial. Carry on Bioware.
There's no conspiracy here. Physical attractiveness is a matter of perspective. Many, many, people find the people you're talking about extremely beautiful/sexy/adorable/desirable/etc. If you don't find any of your options attractive, that's a shame and you may have to not romance anyone or perhaps wait until we see them in more detail, get to know them better, so that you have more of a full idea of what they're like.
Yes. Physical attractiveness is a matter of subjective perspective indeed. However there are points of view commonly shared by most of the people. I assume I won't be inaccurate if I say that in our society mustache is perceived as rather unappealing by most of the people. The same with scars.
So are pretty much all video games.
Not necessary in the same way. Playing Heroes of Might and Magic with friends is different kind of escapism than playing Dragon Age.
Looks like someone beat you to the punch OP:
http://forum.bioware...hat-attractive/
Yes, I see now that this kind of topics already exist. Next time I will investigate list of threads more closely before creating new one. Anyway, good to know that I'm not the only one who see this tendency.
ugh another one? I thought the real world was shallow enough, now we have to bring that prospective into video games? Geez people who make these threads need to grow up
Is it shallow to appreciate nice looking female/male character? Is it shallow to appreciate appealing personality? Are people who doesn't find DA:I cast physically attractive shallow in the same way like people who think that Jacob Taylor personality is not attractive? What this "growing up" means? We are talking here about character in video games and I perceive these aspects differently than in real life.
What do you have against short hair?
Does conventional attractiveness require long hair?
It is not required. Nice looking? - yes.
OP might never had grown long hair before to know what kind of pains it is. Ladies tell me often they want to chop their hair off cause it annoys them usually, it takes less time for short hair to brush and go than long hair. Which is what several say to me, and they prefer putting their hair up so they don't have to mess with it. Guess, some of those guys that hate short hair don't talk much to women or care what they feel?
I have never seen this in this way. Although long haired females known by me never complained. I didn't realize how much are these girls suffering. Seems that female in Thedas are very practical. Smart girls
.

Long hairs are hard to make in video games. I was hoping that next generation consoles will change that but it may not happen. I can live with that.

Well I never demanded for Dragon Age characters to look like supermodels. But maybe I used incorrect words to describe what I think. Language barrier seems to be impenetrable sometimes. Anyway it seems that there are a lot of people who likes this approach and find all DA:I companions attractive. I'm okay with that.
Look Inquisition! It's a wild troll! Let's hunt it for its tusk and rich meat to feed our armies!
hmmm lets see
Cassandra looks great, she is striking and serious. I love that she has a scar, women with facial scars in media are so rare, it makes her look battle hardened (which she is) and I'm going to have to make a male character just to romance her.
Dorian's facial hair is fabulous, I'm very attracted to men with facial hair, infact I installed a mod just to be able to let my male Dalish Warden have facial hair because I just couldn't play him without it. His facial hair is similar to my partner's facial hair so I'm totally going to make an Inquisitor just to romance him.
So that is two characters whose looks and personality have convinced me to create two male PCs, when I'd normally only create one to romance the straight girl.
Let's look at the rest
Sera is adorable and I think her hair fits what little I know of her personality.
Iron Bull seems like the type of person who seems shallow on the outside but once you get to know him, he is a complex and interesting character, like Isabela.
Josephine looks like a normal person, not drop dead gorgeous but pretty and I really like that, I also totally fell in love with her when I read her character interview.
Vivienne has not been confirmed as an LI but I really want her to be, she seems so different from the typical LIs. Her being bald doesn't bother me at all, there are times when I want to shave my hair off because long hair can be soo annoying.
Looks like I totally don't agree....what's that beauty is totally subjective? why yes, yes it is.
One thing I've always liked about BioWare's LIs or characters in general is that they don't tend to look like the beautiful people on T.V. and in Films, who generally all look the same.
