I wonder who has a better chance of being race-gated....Vivi or Cassandra...
Let us look at the facts we have.
Cassandra is a straight woman. For straight men like me who prefer romantic relationship with a straight woman, she is, so far the only option. The same goes for Cullen. For straight women who prefer romantic relationship with a straight man, he is, so far the only option.
Additionally, Cassandra is a former noblewoman who has, for all intents and purposes, rejected her birthright as a noblewoman. We did not see her mentioning the fact she is nobility in Dawn of the Seeker and we did not see her mention it in Dragon Age 2. In fact, people call her Seeker or Madam Seeker as opposed to Lady Cassandra or Lady Pentaghast.
Furthermore, we have seen from Dawn of the Seeker, that should someone, regardless of their birthright and magical proficiency, prove themselves, she will develop some interest toward them.
Add this to the fact that Cassandra's story arc seems to be about finding her place in the world, reinventing herself, change, etc. Her character tarot card is Death after all and that is what Death is associated with.
Which means that race gating Cassandra accomplishes nothing. She cares not for a man's race, she cares not for a man's magical proficiency or lack of proficiency unless the said man is a blood mage and she is under no obligation to fulfill any royal expectations.
Now onto Vivienne.
Vivienne is a mage courtier who wishes for the Circles to be preserved. We also know she is a player of and in the Grand Game, she is ambitious and politically very driven.
I see someone like Vivienne only being capable of romancing people who can give her a political boost or support of some form without fear of reprisals within the Orlesian court.
Which would rule Qunari, the Dwarf and Dalish out. Dalish and Orlesians do not get along well. Qunari and Orlesians definitely do not get along well. Carta Dwarves really do not get along well with Orlesians. Vivienne might get along well with a Dalish Inquisitor or a Qunari Inquisitor or a Dwarf Inquisitor but being in a relationship with either one of them might hurt her political career and position.
Which leaves the human noble. Member of the Trevelyan family with close ties to the Chantry and to the Mage-Templar Confict, she, Vivienne could see the human Inquisitor as a potentially powerful ally and lover.
As for Vivienne's sexuality, I think she is bisexual or will be but she will appear to be straight. What I mean is, she will pull a Celene. If you are part of the noble classes and you are a female, you are expected to marry a man, produce offspring, etc. Which would mean if she gets in a romance with a female Inquisitor, it would be a very hush-hush secretive thing.
So Vivienne will most likely be gated, whether we like it or not. Either that or if we are not male human Inquisitors, we can only have a hush-hush, secretive, Celene-Briala style, romance.
