I mostly want my Inquisitor (Male Andrastian Human Warrior) and Cassandra to be a Battle Couple.

I don't want to plan too much in advance for my first playthrough.  I know I will play a female mage or rogue, but that's it.  For the last two games I had an idea in advance who I would romance.  This time I'd like to just start up the game, recruit as many people as I can find for that playthrough and see who I find most appealing in-game.

Cassandra for my male human Mage (Going for an older man for once, 40, the kind of guy who you can imagine as a teacher that all the girls have a crush on)

Sera for my female qunari Mage (Haven't decided on her personality yet, but maybe a bit of a prankster like Sera herself)

Josephine for my male human rogue (Similar to my mage, but a bit cockier as he is younger)

If Vivienne is a romance... I don't know. So far, another human mage seems likely, but I need to know more before I decide

I might also make a young (20?) human female Warrior if Blackwall is a romance. The age difference sounds like a good story on top of him getting his Calling.

I've no idea, I don't even know which race and class I'm going to pick yet.

For my first playthrough I don't intend to decide on who I'm going to romance until I've met everyone and gotten a feel for their personalities.

The one time I did try to make that decision was with Merrill in DA2, before my first playthrough I was sure I was going to romance her and then I met Isabela and my Hawke was all like 'Merrill who?'

I don't want to head cannon how I want to romance someone and then find out its not possible e.g. like a rivalmance or wanting to romance a race gated LI.

That being said this is the first BioWare game were I think I might end up romance each possible LI.

In DA:O, I only romanced all four for the achievement

In DA2, I tried to romance others, but Isabela had stolen my heart, so I always went back to her

In Mass Effect, well lets just say Femshep loves Liara and leave it at that

In Jade Empire, it was always Silk Fox

I could go on.

In DA:I though, I could see myself romancing all the revealed LIs (apart from Cullen) and Vivienne, who I hope is an LI.

Guess I'll have to wait and see

Well, I was planning to play a female dwarf just to romance Varric...

Since he's out of option - I will romance either Iron Bull, Sera or Josephine (I'm not sure if Vivienne is even possible for females). As to who I'm going to play - for sure my heroine will be an archer. I need to see pre-generated faces in character creation before I pick her race (I'm terrible at creating custom faces)

I'm going for a male elf mage who romances Iron Bull. I'm really excited to see how that romance goes, it's kind of cliche but I like the idea of it starting out fairly casual and eventually getting into a more deeper relationship.

I've also planned a qunari male and female for Dorian and Sera in other playthroughs! The Male one will be an aggressive older Qunari and I like the idea of their relationship because of the whole Tevinter/Qunari wars and how they are both rebelling from their homeland (I also like the idea of Iron Bull/Dorian being together as well). The qunari female will be more sarcastic/humorous and possibly quite similar to Sera but I like the idea of them having conflicting opinions, this character will be anti-mages so I hope Sera is more pro-mage. I think that would be more interesting.

My two cents on this issue.

Disclaimer: This is my opinion based on my preferences as a straight male gamer who only plays male characters (my limit I know but that's it, i simply don't manage to feel immersed when playing as a female protagonist unless tha game is specifically designed to make you play as one)

This will be probably the first BW game where I won't be romancing anyone.

Let's go into details.

My first Inquisitor is going to be a male Dalish Mage and some months ago was hoping to be romancing the only she-elf between our companions that being Sera, however once I discovered she is a lesbian romance only (my biggest dissapointment for this game) and having noticed that there aren't any more female elves companions I concluded that for the Dalish character I had in mind (Dalish traditionalist) it would have been immersion-breaking for me to romance any non-elf character. So with this Inquisitor I'm going to be a lone-wolf. (Lore issue here Dalish tend to be closed when referring to partners). Had this elf been a City elf then the whole things would have been different

My second Inquisitior will be probably a male Qunari Warrior...but no Qunari female companion for me to romance....meaning no viable romance for me even with this Inquisitor. I simply cannot romance a human with a Qunari...it's odd for me even to imagine it. (Personal limit on cross-racial (meaning qunari, humans) romances.

The Qunari problem is also true for my male Dwarf rogue, no female dwarf companion to romance.

This would be my third inquisitor without romances.

Things get interesting when will be playing as a human. Here the problems are not related with unlikely unions and lore-streching romances but with my personal tastes as I'm a human too. Here for a male human Inquisitor there are plenty of options but none really satisfy me entirely:

- Cassandra is not my type. I'm not really into masculine girls and i was really searching for a traditional type of woman (not meaning weak but more feminine)

- Vivienne she IS a possible romance for me but i'm scared to grow affection for her as she doesn't seem a reliable person and from my impression quite power hungry, here I could be wrong but i'm cautious. We shall see.

- Josephine! She is the character I have the most hopes for a romance. She seems my kind of type: reflective, intelligent, feminine and charming. Really looking forward to know her more.

So I guess with my human Inquisitor everything will depend on how Vivienne and Josephine turn out to be. If Vivienne will reveal as a trustworthy person then I might romance her straight away with a Mage Inquisitor the same is applied to Josephine.

Guess for me Human is the only option if I want a romance.

well there goes my dwarf play through, i will do that last or not at all, unless there turns out to be a dwarf romance, is dagna going to be in the game? i heard there was a love interest that wasn't a party member or an adv. maybe it will turn out to be a dwarf for all the hard core dwarf players out there.

that being said, sense i always go human warrior first , i will romance dorian.

Nope, no dwarf romances - all the romances are actually either companions or advisors. So at this point the remaining options are Vivienne-Solas, Vivienne-Blackwall or Blackwall-Solas. My bet is on the first combination, although the second is possible. (I don't think it's going to be Blackwall-Solas, but nothing has actually ruled that out.)

BioWare may some day make a game where it's possible to play a dwarf and romance another dwarf, but after fifteen years I'm not holding my breath.

Several. Cullen with a female human, Josie with a female qunari, Dorian with a male human, Bull with a dwarf (not sure gender yet), Vivienne with a female elf, and then whoever is left romanceable of Solas or Blackwall with a male elf, if I can. Romance ALL the things!

The only romances I have nothing planned for are Sera yet (I don't like her archetype but I'm giving her a fair chance and reserving judgement for when we actually meet in game, maybe I'll love her after all), and unfortunately sweet sweet Cassandra :'((( because I don't really play straight males ever. Alas, there will be lots of unrequited crushes on Cass to roleplay with my femquizzies, at least it builds character.

eta: hmmm reading the rest of the interview, it really seems to imply that Solas is the last male LI in that romance approvals question. Well then, Solas and (unspecified gender) elfquisitor it is.

Male Dalish Elf Inquisitor.

To start off, he is straight and he is a mage, so he has two or three options so far.

Josephine -  From the information we have, she seems adorable and open-minded. Her diplomatic, non-violent attitude approach reminds me a lot of Satine Kryze and Padme Amidala. My first choice.

Vivienne - If she is not gated against male dalish elves. if she is actually available for romance and if she does not backstab the Inquisitor to advance herself politically at some point, then why not. She has to be more appealing than Josephine and justify why she wants the Circles of Magi to exist, which at this point, sounds quite difficult.

Cassandra - Religious girls are, on the outset, not my type. I look for philosophical compatibility in a partner and a religious person will never be philosophically compatible with an atheist. Having said that, she is the Seeker of Truth which means she seeks facts and not BS. She has also shown the capacity to get past a man's race and a man magical proficiency (unless it is blood magic). Which means she might not have much of a problem with a Dalish.

So it is a showdown between Josephine and Cassandra.

Female Dalish Elf Inquisitor.

She is straight as well and a mage.

Solas - If he is available, he would be my only choice IMO. Intellectual and introverted, what is there to not like ? Plus, his looks reminds me of Professor Xavier, who is my favorite X-Man.

Blackwall - A man and a Grey Warden worthy of respect, honor and has glorious facial hair. If Solas is not available and Blackwall is, its Ser Bara for romance.

Iron Bull - A member of the Ben-Hassrath and is part of a group that would gladly sew her mouth, put her in chains, cut her tongue out and call it freedom. Not exactly her type. She will not hate him but like I said before, philosophical compatibility is important.

Cullen - Former templar. She does not like templars. Magic is a gift, it should be used, not caged up and controlled. She will not hate him but like I said before, philosophical compatibility is important.

Which leaves us with Blackwall or Solas. I would be happy to have either of them for her as a LI.

I want a fluffy romantic romance, like with Alistair. I'm a sucker for flowers and "I love you"s.... But with my more 'free' characters I tend to have them romance the more 'promiscuous' LI to retain that very relaxed environment and personality.

Mostly the type of romance I want varies on the PC I am playing that playthrough.

Oh which ones were doing? //shifty eyes. Whoops

My first will be a female elf Mage romancing Solas, creators willing.

2nd will be my rogue Trevelyan, who will romance Dorian

Then Mage human Mage with Cullen of course.

4th play through is male elf dual daggers and The Iron Bull.

And finally if I'm not tired of the game yet, human noble male warrior with Josephine. PHEW!

Cassandra and probably only with the Marcher Inquisitor for story reasons. The rest are forever alone... because meh. Don't dig playing as females in rpgs (shout out to Lara and Samus) so no Sera for me.

Cassandra. For once, I'm interested in a more serious, mature and old fashioned romance with a grounded badass character.    :)

Well taste varies and I can see where some of the straight guys here are coming from.

It would be nice to have a girl next door female companion for once. The closest we had was Bethany and she was your player character's sister.

Vivienne has a ruthless arrogant personality that many find unappealing.

Cassandra is not conventionally beautiful and has a strong dominant personality that may turn some men off. Not everyone likes the woman on top :P

Sera is a lesbian and Leliana is unavailable.

Josephine seems promising. I hope it appeases them :)

I plan very little beyond initial inspiration for my characters and only one at a time. I'm not going for any type of romance; I have to play the game with a given character and let that character, and their relationships, develop organically. So I don't plan romances or have any preconceived notions about them at all.

Cassandra is intriguing I suppose, but she's got a crush on Hawke

Hoping for a romance with Cassandra for a male dwarven warrior. If that's not possible, I'll have to choose a different race. Anyways, I'm thinking my Inquisitor will start off as looking up to Cassandra as the Hero of Orlais and the Right Hand of the Divine (a sort of mentor or role model of sorts), and grow to think of her as more of an equal as his own great deeds start to stack throughout the story.

Out of the confirmed LIs probably Josephine. If we include rumored characters it is a toss up between Josephine and Vivienne.
