@PhroXenGold

Ahh but see I never wrote that I would rather heal them than prevent them from being harmed in the first place. I wrote that I wanted to play as healer, that I love to heal, and that I'll miss the Spirit Healer tree - I've said nothing about what I'd prefer in terms of avoiding damage with buffs and barriers.

For me it's the potion part vs. the healing that matters; I'd rather be able to heal ('cause I love healing spells), than to have each team member chug down several potions during and after a fight (at least on Nightmare I except to chug down a lot of potions now that healing has been nerfed).

It's 'my class' you see, the healer, it's pretty much gone. When the barriers break, when the buffs aren't enough, when HoT from armor/weapons can't keep up, etc., that's when the healer steps in. A healer that is now replaced by potions = I'll miss the fun of playing as a healer :(

That's not to say I won't love the game, Bioware games are among the best games I've ever played - but I know that I'll miss healing, and no argument, being named a toddler or whatever, can change that.

Sorry, I might not have been clear, I wasn't specifically aiming the original comment about being sick at you, just a general thing at people claiming "roleplaying" reasons for preferring heal based systems to those based around damage prevention, which I've seen quite a few times on here, and it really confuses me.

I can certainly understand from a gameplay perspective why people enjoy healing. It is a fun way of playing, I do myself like it. Fortunately, I played a lot of CoH before its sad demise, and learned the pleasures of simply preventing damage through massive debuffs and buffs, so I like both ways of doing it. Add to this the fact that there's plenty of games that let you heal and very few that focus on attrition based combat and alternative damage prevention measures, so I'm really looking forward to what DA:I does, so forgive me if I get a little defensive when I see people trying to take us back to a heal based model ;)

All forgiven, and yes I can get that, it will be interesting to see how the more focused damage prevention system works out - it sounds like there'll be more planning ahead and more strategy to it than just plain healing to 'fix the damage', so for tactics there's that to look forward to :ph34r:

As for potions replacing healing itself I'm a "meh, that's for Diablo". Not that I don't like potions (or Diablo), I just find them to be more 'hack 'n' slash' compared to playing as a healer trying to keep the party alive when the #&%! hits the fan - a situation in which I love being the healer  ;)

If we could limit the number of healing spells you could cast (Vancian magic perhaps?) before having to "restock" in some way (likely rest in specific pre-set resting locations), I'd love to swap potions for healing spells. But so long as there's a regenerating mana system, there's no real way to get healing spells to work given how the DA:I combat system is designed - you just can't do attrition when there's effectively unlimited (over time) healing.

True, either the healing spells would have to be extremely weak, but that would make them redundant anyway, or there should be an X number of times each spell could be cast (also as in Baldur's Gate), but that would be weird with the way damage spells work in Dragon Age, so... :blink: I get how most healing spells were scrapped with the current combat system, but it will break my heart as a healer - guess I know how them folks who want blood magic feel. Still, I'm sure the game is going a blast B)

Maybe limiting the health amount you can recover with healing spells to a certain percentage could be a solution. Personally I don't like the idea of resurrecting companions just touching them is too MMORPG for me. This said I think that Bioware efforts to find new ways is admirable because they are trying to change a consolidated mechanism and this is not simple. I like the barrier system and I hope they will find a way to reintroduce healing spells keeping it!

P.S. seems that people are worried more for qunari hairs than for game mechanics  -_-

So after playing the game what do you think about the absence of healing spells for me is not good because I have always to cast a barriers and relate on guards playing hard difficulty level. Moreover magic can disrupt space-time continuum but can't cure wounds while fighting only potions can...Please I want Anders back in my party or a good substitute!

I don't like it. It's one of the things that ruins the game for me. You know I really hate when people complain mages are to powerful. From a god damn distance, yes I am powerful, if someone with their big deathstick can't reach me, then I am powerful.

But when someone in armor comes to start wailing on me, I'm spamming healing potions just as much as I would spam healing spells. The fact that I currently can only have 8 healing potions is ridiculous.

The barriers do not help nearly as much as you'd like to think. They are useful, but in the end of the topic I'd like a god damn healing spell. I am a mage. I might have powerful abilities BUT I am pretty darn squishable.
