I thought horns were like a defining characteristic of the Qunari though?
I mean, we absolutely have to have Vallaslin, but we can choose horns or not? Doesn't seem very consistent.

Nah, this has been a battle of opinions. Nothing more. And his sardonic attitude wasn't needed regardless.
No the initial comment i responded to was not opinion based, you made the implication that somehow having no horns makes that qunari less qunari than one with horns. Not only is that wrong but we've supplied examples as to why that logic isnt legitimate, it was after this where you decided to bring up your personal views on why to you this is a "stupid inconsistency".
So again, bottom line, lore states that being hornless is nothing more than a rare trait (or lack of one), bringing in real world biology to a fantasy setting and stating your personal preference is irrelevant.

Remember Sten? from DA: O?
You might argue that once DA2 rolled around they changed their mind and all of the sudden just said oh well they are like this. Sten was a rarity or technical issue or we are now changing our minds because its easy to do.....that could or could not be true, but he didn't/doesn't have horns.

No its not, unlike the tattoos for the dalish which are part of becoming an adult.
The not having horns for Qunari is like having red hair and if one is born without horns they find themselves in special roles generally, since the race has certian views about those without horns.

Well, you could have just said that instead of being snarky about it. Thanks. By the way, if I recall, I wasn't the one who first made the real world biology analogy to begin with.

i guess I'm not observant, I thought Sten just had little horns that blended in with his hair, and then they made the horns more obvious in DA2.
Hair color is a trait.
As is hornlessness is qunari.
Seriously, this is 9th grade biology-level stuff. It isn't that difficult of a concept to grasp. Hornlessness is a recessive trait just like color blindless, albinism, or melanism.
I want massive Arishok horns
If we are able to play as genetic oddities now, does that mean we will be able to play as a visibly-half-elf a la Feynriel? Or as a half-dwarf like the first Ash Warriors?
While we're all special snowflakes straight out of character creation now, can we be a dwarven mage or, say, a gingerbread man with a popsicle-stick skeleton?

You got that right. And if you are a Qunari Warrior then you should be able to dual wield 2 handed weapons too ![]()

That was where my confusion entered. Where does the line get drawn between artistic freedom and staying true to the universe?

And should we not be able to play as ethnic minority characters just because the majority of Thedas appears to be white? Or not be allowed to have red hair with blue eyes because it's the lowest statistical combination?
Seriously, we don't know how many qunari are hornless. Sten's entire group was composed of hornless individuals (as evidenced by his nightmare in the Fade), so obviously we're not in super-special-snowflake territory. That's just hyperbole.

Exactly how is playing as a hornless qunari not "staying true to the universe" when we know for a fact that hornless qunari exist within the universe?

special/rare but within lore = ok
special and not within lore or active breaking lore = not ok?

I think a good question here. IF you do choose to be a qunari with no horns....can you then wear full on helmets? Does the pre order dlc armor come with a horned qunari head armor?
Hopefully Bioware took some pointers from guild wars 2, and made horn shape and horn size different sliders.

Well I wrote that when in regards to my contemplation before I learned that Sten had no horns.
I just think it'll be odd if no one mentions that you as a qunari have no horns, isn't that supposed to be significant?

in lore yes, but only to qunari and outside iron bull and his mercs who probably not openly be too focused on qun type stuff, we will probably not meet many. and the glowy hand and fade powers are more note worthy.
Since it's a cosmetic character creation option I doubt it, but will any qunari notice the lack of horns since that's a pretty significant distinction in their culture?
In the Pax panel last year, one of the devs said no because it would be along the lines of noticing someone with different hair color/style, which doesnt make sense to me because these types of things are noticed and are brought up in conversation let alone in qunari culture where its viewed as intimidating, or even in the other cultures where horns arent a regular sight in the least bit.
It just seems the most realistic to think that someone either way will comment on your horns (or lack of them)

That would require different background stories since the humans they are using seem to be pure noble stack and the dwarves are clearly stated has surface dwarf.
Guess they could add more backgrounds to cover that stuff next game.

That would be a good question to get answered, has they said there are special head gear for horns and so on, would a hornless one be able to use normal helms and not the other stuff.
Would think it would come with both though, be kinda of bad marketing if it didn't though.
Just my two bits.
