I think the closest analogue to vampires we have at the moment are devouring skeletons, since they're undead bodies possessed by demonic spirits, with an unquenchable need to feed on the living. Pretty much sounds like the vampires you find in traditional folkore, although nowadays they'd be considered more synonymous with zombies.

Hunger demons possessing a living being are vampires...pretty much abominations that drain your life.

 

Werewolves are mindless and would attack anything. Abominations would attack anything. I don't see any cliche VS for the sake of it.

 

And all this pretty vampire vs rugged werewolf thing got rather cheesy a long time ago.

If there are to be vampires in Thedas, please let it be actual, scary, dangerous and monstrous vampires.

IMO, vampires in Thedas would be people or corpses being possessed by hunger demons.

Yeah that's pretty much as close to vampires as we are going to get in the Dragon Age setting.
