Cassandra- I really haven't seen anything story wise that shows she is against romancing any race, though she didn't seem to fond of the qunari in DA 2 and she didn't seem to friendly to dwarfs either but I think that was just her hostility to Varric at first, though from the trailers it seems she is hostile to the Inquisitor no matter what race at first.

 

Cullen- Out of all the gender gated romance options he has the most evidence from past games to be race gated. He has shown a dislike for Qunari (possibly the religion and the horned race people all together) and if his attitude toward Oghren and dwarfs was not very good either. I think many are forgetting how strong his religious beliefs are which could turn him away from dwarfs as he sees them as heathens. The Qunari Inquisitor is not of the Qun yes we know this but that does not mean Cullen would still be interested in romancing one. He did show interest in a female mage elf warden in Origins but I believe she was a city elf, not a dalish elf so there once again his religious beliefs may get in the way.

 

Dorian- Only thing I can find that may race gate Dorian is the war between the Qunari and Tevienter. But we all know Dorian is kind of the black sheep of that region so he may not care.

 

Sera- Okay I think people want to race gate Sera cause she is the only non human LI left and cause of her hate for nobles. As I have said being a noble is not a race thing, humans are not the only race in Thedas that can be nobles. Has anyone considered since we meet her in Orlais she may hate Orlesian nobility only? (just a thought) Also there is the human mage, who yes is till a noble but was raised in the circle and not as a noble who will probably not even know what its like to be a noble or how to be one and may not even want to be one. Another could be the relationships between huimans and elves. Being in the friends of red jenny means that Sera has probably worked with, friended and even romanced human females before, I think the only member of the friends we have met was the woman in DA 2 who would reward you in the Hanged Man for taking out the gangs at night so we know humans are part of the group. Someone posted earlier that Sera seems like she has a lot of hate and idk where they got that from if anything next to Varric she is going to be the more relaxed of the group, she's a trickster and I just don't see race mattering to her, especially since she likes just women. Once again being a noble would mean she is CLASS gated, not race gated.

 

Since we don't know who the last two are and since both IB and Josephine have been confirmed not to be race gated I will not give my opinion on the the 3 left who could be since we just don't know enough.

I felt like Iron Bull was going to be race-gated but then they made him available to all races. At this point, I can only see Vivienne and Cullen being race gated. Vivienne being human gated and Cullen, Human and elf.

 

There was also talk about how Cassandra could be race-gated in another thread, but I honestly don't think she will.

True truth is I don't want any of the gender gated romances to also be race gated, but evidence is really pointing at Cullen

I'd be okay with Cullen being gated if he's ONLY human romancable.

 

But if he can get over the whole heathen thing for Dalish elves but not dwarves/qunari I just...bleh.

Like I said I think the female elf in origins was a city elf and not dalish I'm not 100% sure

Everyone is race gated except for Female Dwarves. The whole of your Inquisition is sh:!t scared of beards (yes even Blackwall, but he is in therapy), and all have a tiny size fetish.

 

All other Inquisitors are given a pat on the shoulder by Cole before the final mission

I think Vivienne will be race-gated if she is a romance, without a doubt actually. She don't have time for no other races than humans, lol! As for the other one...hmm....I always thought Cassandra as well but now I don't know...I see Solas being race-gated.

 

I don't see Cullen being race-gated since there would be outrage but then again who knows...Dorian...I don't think so either...

So why are people saying Cullen is against Elves...he has not issue with elves regardless of their background...I am nearly 100% sure on that since you could actually have an elf tease him or that elf could had been his crush, if female of course.

Its because of his religious beliefs which whether you want to believe or not matter to a lot of people and Cullen has been very vocal about his in the past. The female elf you are talking about was a city elf who don't follow the dalish ways including religion. The Dalish have their own gods and beliefs that would clash with Cullen's.

Except regardless of your racial background you can be a proponent of the Chantry and I don't think there's going to be a hidden variable that tracks that when it comes to romances.

If Cullen's religious view are the story reason they come up with then it will be there whether we like it or not, can't deny he has shown a dislike for both dwarfs and qunari in the past

I think it depends on the last 2 characters sexuality.
If Vivienne is Bi(I believe her and Solas will be the last 2) than she will be race gated(since making available to all 8 models is a lot of work and makes more sense than the more exclusive LIs) if she is a lesbian then either her or Sera, if she is straight than either her or Cassandra.

Same with Solas. If Bi then he will be gated. Gay? Him or Dorian. Straight? Him or Cullen.

 

A very good point! They had solve the problem for different models, as we know, but if they do it individually for every companion (not just every body type) it might take too much work.

I can add to it, since it does look like Vivienne and Solas will be bi and we do have 2 bi already (known to be available to everyone)  the V&S are like "DLC companion" in terms of limitations. Vivien is too much of top class to lower herself to criminals like mercenaries (all Qunary and dwarves) and for Solas those horny or underground beasts might be too alien to even consider as partners.

The mage elf wasn't city OR dalish. She grew up in the circle tower. She's a circle elf. Pretty sure they're all forced to worship Andraste and the maker no matter what they believe or where they're from originally.
Actually, iirc you could tell someone you were from Denerim, or didn't remember, or some other things. Think there was an elven apprentice reading a book or something that asked where you're from. I don't remember if you could say you were dalish.

I don't support this. I don't believe Solas will be race gated. If he doesn't want people to see him as just an elf, why would he be against being with a dwarf or Qunari? Doesn't make sense to me.

I think people are taking that "not just an elf" thing a little to literally, for all we know that has NOTHING to do with his personal life but more for his professional life as a Fade expert. I have no clue if Qunari dream but it is a known fact that Dwarfs do not dream and do not go to the fade when they die. If Solas is a romance option and him being a fade expert he would probably want to be with someone who could share his interest and one  he could be with in the fade once they both pass

I can't imagine them both being race gated identically, and I really can't see Solas as being race gated, and if he is I don't see him as potentially being race gated against anything besides Dwarves. For Vivienne I can see an argument for the reverse being true, but I'm more than a little hopeful it isn't (as she's my current leader for my Qunari Female Mage to romance).

I see just hope Sera won't be race-gated against humans, if she is one of the two. I want to play as a human in the first round. Or maybe that just might convince me to change my mind.

If the being a noble is the only argument people have for her to be gated then its a pretty safe bet she won't be since thats not even a good story reason for her to be gated, plus it has nothing to do with race. I'm 99.9% sure her and dorian won't be gated.

In regards to Cullen, I'm sure people can play their elven/dwarven/qunari character to be pro-Chantry, and I'm also sure that people can play their human characters as anti-Chantry, so having Cullen race-gated against non-humans based on religious reasons makes absolutely no sense.

 

I'm having a hard time seeing how they could possibly make this race-gating thing palatable to players.  All it is going to do is make people upset.

 

Hopefully they don't do this again in future games.
