Maybe Cullen is race gated to only date dwarves because it means there's no chance she's hiding being a mage, and his children with her would have pretty much no chance of being mages.
So who the heck are the race gated romances?

That tweet wasn't PR talk, it from people assuming HE said that the final 2 are the race-gated LIs
Re-posted for emphasis. If I remember, the tweets were from people misinterpreting/looking too much into his tweets or twisting his words.

They wanted to give the players equal options, player races are a different thing that might not get equal options
Well it'll be great feeling like I made the wrong choice for not playing a human then.

Or
It would make dwarf inquisitors the most played race of inquisition
THINK ABOUT IT

We don't technically know that anyone is race gated to humans. I mean I won't deny it's the most likely scenario but still.

I wonder if the racegates are balanced. If say X is racegated against Qunari and Dwarves, Y is racegated against Humans and Elves. I don't really like the idea that one or more Inquisitors of a certain race lose out on 2 romance options in one go just for preferring that certain race.
I also wonder if the racegate is a lie. I would love for them to remove it because it's kind of pointless to me.

Well it would be my luck for Cullen to be racegated.
Hopefully though if he's racegated against dwarves and qunari he's racegated against elves as well. The dalish aren't any less heathens than the other two.

Honestly the heathen excuse doesn't make much sense to me. In the eyes of the Chantry, everyone who isn't a follower is a heathen. You can't claim the Dwarves and Qunari are more heathen than the Dalish or any Atheist Humans.

Yeah same. But apparently it's a story reason. I don't know why storywise Cullen would go no sell to dwarves and qunari but be okay with Dalish. It's not like they're anymore non hostile to humans. *shrugs*
I'm really hoping Cullen' isn't the restricted one. Cause as it is I'm pretty "ehhhhh."

But wouldn't a surface dwarf most likely be andrastrian? Why would it be a no sell there?

Female elf mage in origins was a CE. Not a dalish.

Wait surface dwarves are Andrastian?

Aren't they? I mean they live in and interact with human culture and I could have swarn varric was...or maybe he just loved to use andrastrian sayings. And I thought we run into some dwarves on the surface that say things like praise andrastre and casual stuff like that.

Well yeah but just saying the phrases doesn't make you religious. I say "for the love of god/ra" and I don't believe in those two either. It's just habit and a turn of phrase.
Unless again I missed something? I was under the impression that surface dwarves shared their underground counterparts religion?

I think they mostly do, I don't recall any dwarves besides the one in Orzammar who you help start a chantry but he was like the exception

Do they? I remember hearing at least one or two surface dwarves going "pft stone sense, I don't have anything like that and I don't give a wit about the stone". I never got the impression surface dwarves who weren't first generation from orzammar gave any crap about the underground dwarves religion. Now I wish I had a twitter so I could just ask a dev.

I guess? I remember you can offer to varric to ask a priest to pray for bartrand after his death, and I know he says he likes the chantry but I just wish I could ask a dev.

Haven't say said the remaining race gated romances were chosen for story reasons? I don't see how Cullen being only available to humans and elves would affect the storyline within the romance plot. Cullen could mention his dislike against qunaris and dwarfs in two or three sentences. It seems a bit superfluous to implement a 'story based' race gate to a character if it's mentionable in few sentences and not really based on the story plot. Solas however, is connected to the fade and the fade has a big role in DAI. I don't say romancing this character will lead you to another outcome of the game than only having a friendship with him. I don't think Bioware will force us to romance a certain character to get the best outcome. But within the romance it would make sense to gate him against dwarfs, because there is a chance of having some romance scenes with him in the fade. Do you know what I mean? Since the remaining race gated romances are story based, it should be really suitable to the story and not only something that's easy to mention in one or two sentences.

not all dwarfs are Varric though, if anything he is a special kind of dwarf

Well he's second or third generation surface dwarf I don't see why his religious inclinations would be atypical of surface dwarves (especially since he rubbed a lot of elbows with dwarven merchants guilds). I just figured he was a not very strict andrastrian because hey, being andrastrian comes with being part of the big human cities.
But again I have no idea and this would probably be a question best asked to the actual writers.

I highly doubt that most Dwarves who go to the surface are all "Let's accept Andraste!" Andrastian isn't the default after all. Maybe some do and maybe some don't.
It's indeed a writer thing.
