Staff projectiles or Mage hand projectiles

I noticed this a while back but I never bothered addressing it, and it's how mages now attack with staffs in recent demos/gameplay footage.
I personally found the hand energy ball attacks to be a welcome change and interesting way to reinvent auto attacking with mages. Now all I see is a solas clunk-ily spining his staff around to attack (personally I thought da2 form of attacking was more straight shot and less rigid) additionally it seems he can't move while attacking either. (Could have sworn the qunari Mage was moving while attacking in earlier demos.)
My case is this: 'your opinion I want it!'
What do you think if this change? Can it be changed back? Is this Mage attack optional?
Bioware posts on addressing the reasons for change would be appreciated.

I liked the hand projectile. It gave the feeling of the mage having the power, not the staff, which I liked. BUT, I don't dislike the staff projectile animations from DA2, so it doesn't really make much of a difference to me either way.

When I saw the Hand Projectile, I couldn't help but notice how stupidly easy it'd be to kite and spam the attack with impunity because the animation wasn't rooted to the ground. So good riddance I say.

I like both, actually.
One thing DA has always done that I really love is that they use the staff for animations, and most games don't do that (that I know of, anyway). I know some don't like it because it feels like the magic is coming from the staff and not the mage, but I've never been concerned about it.
I also like how they changed the staff animation for basic attacks to being much slower and a bit shorter.

That was my main gripe with it I liked da2 staff attack because it was faster. To each his own I guess.I like both, actually.

I like DA2's animations making their way into DAI, but I dislike that they are slower this time around. It doesn't look as active, and that's what I loved the most about playing a mage in DA2.

Really? I honestly think they look quite active this time. Just less...light and overly-energetic. I mean, they don't crawl through the animation or anything.

Yes, really. I like fast staff animations, hahah

I liked the hand blasts. ![]()
EDIT: To clarify - using the staff like a martial artist to attack enemies in melee range is fine; archers in DA2 had a similar melee animation where they would pull out the murder knife if enemies got into melee range. And I'm glad Origins' staff auto-attack is gone, it was really stiff and boring.

I like the new (staff) animations a lot more. It resembles DA2's staff animations, but at a normal speed (thank the Maker).
Imo, it's a good thing the caster can't move while attacking. Kiting would be too easy & I also didn't like the Inquisitor's awkward foot shuffling when attacking with his/her hand.

I prefer the staff animations, simply because what is the point of mages using staffs if they just use their hands to cast spells? Also at this point the staff animations are better for consistency with the other two games, it's already bad enough that after DAO all warriors apparently "forgot" how to dual wield and rogues "forgot" what swords were, so it would seem out of place to me if mages in DAI arbitrarily stopped using their staffs to attack, further contradicting the other two games.

I like options. I think of it like this, the staff is just there for basic attacks and better channeling your mana, but you can still cast spells with no staff.

Which is more powerful: staff or hand projectiles?
The element staff will influence the elements of the spells?

Always viewed staff as more of a focus item for mage's power. Mage should be able to cast spells without staff, but if staff is present, use it. On the other hand (and I know this will go contrary to many people's likes) I did not like DA2's staff animations. Mostly due to the speed - too fast. Did not feel that a person channeling energy of the fade into raw magical power with the force of their will should be swinging their staff like they are having seizures.

I was not a fan of the staff animations (or really any of the animations) in DA2, hopefully we have the option to just not equip one this time around. I'd rather take the hit to my stats than watch that particular animation over and over again. I was actually really hoping they would give mages the book/tome casting animation some of the enemies have in this game.
Edit: It makes me wonder how Knight Enchanter is going to work now if the casting is tied into the staff again.

I prefer the hand blasts. It shows that the mage has some actual power in and of themselves.
At least the staff twirling and twerking is not as crazy and insane as it used to be in DA 2. It seems a lot more weighted and purposeful this time around. I mean, mages are mages, not rogues so speed is not suppose to be their forte. Which means I don't necessarily hate the current staff animation that we have but I would have preferred hand blasts.

DA has made note to have its mages with their staves, so in the end I think sticking with staves was a good idea.

I like the combination of the Staff twirling and hand projectile firing. Makes the mage look cooler and badass.
