I've gone through the errors in the book and I obviously see that it would take time to rewrite all of that. But seriously, has it been rewritten. Is the text in the 2013 edition different? If not, are there still plans to release the book? I haven't read the book yet at all due to what I researched but if there's an answer to this, I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.

It hasn't, most likely never will be.
Just forget it and move on, it's a trainwreck beyond salvation.

I suppose I could just rewrite it on my own.

They said there was a fixed version in the plans but it never happened. That was a long time ago, so chances are null. Besides, book had so many inconsistencies with the rest of Mass Effect lore, that it would have needed almost a complete rewrite to make sense.

Yea. Quite a shame.

I think at this point, they're just trying to put that stuff behind them, bury it, and move on.
Which I am okay with.

Indeed, it's best to regard these events as non-canon for the sake of continuity.

I think Deception's official status at this point is non-canon.

Yeah, there was just no way about anything in it could work with the in-game stuff regarding continuity and lore. Too much of its portrayal of things were offensive (Gillian's autism being passed off as 'a troubled phase,' Hendel being said to be ogling asari after being established as gay), wrong (quarians being willing to just give Gillian a ship, a multi-species auction on Khar'Shan) or just out of nowhere (beryllium being used as black market currency, 'asari air kisses') for it to mesh in any way with the established Mass Effect universe. Although ME3 references Anderson having a run-in with Kai Leng on Omega, at most, it's little more than 'in broad strokes' as applied to canon.

This is reference to previous Retribution, not Deception.

But is it, like ME3, a good place to start?

Ironically I bought Deception first without knowing the abomination that it was because I needed something to read on the plane and it had TiM on the cover. I figured 'how bad can it be?'.

That is worse than "Blasto: The Jellyfish Stings"
And "The Misadventures of Darya Shepard" - coming soon to a power point presentation! I have to select a soundtrack.

So the book was quite a deception?

The 'shot him in the legs' bit happened in Retribution, and then Anderson says that he had another run in with him on Omega afterwards, which was an event in Deception.

Deception, where lore goes to die.
Remember the initial backlash about the ME3 ending, when the devs promised to answer all the questions fans had, once a bit of time had passed?
That's where the Deception re-write is. Floating around in a black abyss of broken promises, twitching and bleeding profusely from a toothbrush wound to the jugular. Probably.

Just checked it in texts.
Anderson said: I shot him in both legs once. Thought that might be the end of him, but he showed up again on Omega even stronger.
There was no downright mention about another direct encounter between Kai Leng and Anderson. It is more citation from some report. Also even stronger part suggesting that Kai Leng was already cyborg at this moment.
And because it is long time since I translated Deception (and trying forget on it since then), I'm even not sure if they personally met on Omega. Kahlee and Anderson were always late there.

Eh, I was working from memory. The point I was trying to make is there IS a reference to what he gets up to in Deception, but that's about as far as anything in actual canon does to reference Deception.

I'm thinking it will be left in the past for sure.
