Sorry to disappoint you, but all full fledged Romances are confirmed to be in the Roster of Companions and Advisors. So, no dwarven Romance in DA:I. ![]()
I'd say Vivienne is one of the two romances left.
BioWare has tried to make the romances as equal as possible so I can't see them having a gender imbalance.
Personally I can't wait to get to get to know her at least as a friend as I think she'll have a great friendship/romance arc. Her ambition seems to keep everyone at a distance but I could see her being much warmer and a more complex character once you got to know her.
As for Solas and Blackwall, I'm leaning more towards Solas, only because most of the romances are with humans in DA:I so I could see Solas being an LI just to have another non-human LI. Then again Blackwall has a fantastic beard and I love me some male facial hair.
I'd be happy with either really.
For the race gated companions, I could see Solas being an elf only romance (if he is indeed an LI).
Not sure about the second one none of the others feel like they'd be race gated to me but then we don't really know alot about some of them yet.
My guess though is that they will be LIs who are bi. LIs who are straight or gay AND who are race gated makes them a very restricted LI.
I suspect Solas and Blackwall will be the romances due to Cullen being race-gated.

I don't see the relation. There might be a race gated female LI as well.
If they go the way I suspect, then it means, male lovers get 2 more LIs in exchange for having two of them racegated.
But you're right, there might be. I'm just going guessing here. I'd rather Viv were a romance. But I can understand why it won't happen.
So this is just an idea, but what if Solas is race gated to only Qunari, Elves, and Humans because they can dream and he has romance scenes in the fade with them.
It is pretty much impossible to make an educated guess at this point, given how little we actually know of the companions and their story.
Blackwall could be out because perhaps he is too close to his Calling or too dedicated to the Warden cause to allow himself into a relationship with someone, or he could actually balance his feelings and dedications quite well and see no insuperable complications to allow himself to mutually love someone.
Vivienne could be a love interest to keep balance in place, or the writers could have completely disregarded romance for the sake of balance and instead have based it on how it would fit the character. She could be too focused on her ambitions to allow herself to be sideswept by a romance with someone possibly not in-line with her cause, or she could care for none of that.
I admittedly don't know enough of Solas come up with reasons for or against.
I'm not even going to touch racegate, since that would be completely dependent on the character's story and outlook, and we know basically nothing relevant.
Personally, I would love for Blackwall and Solas to be the remaining LIs, regardless of how much I adore Vivienne. BioWare breaking away from the "The Mentor Type Is Unromancable"-idea would be a welcome breath of fresh air*. Having an ambitious and attractive woman uninterested in a romance would take that one step further. The biggest step being straight female characters having more options available to them than straight male ones (provided, of course, Blackwall and Solas in this case are straight or bisexual), as opposed to what we continuously see in games like Mass Effect, SWTOR and other titles.
(* Actually, I keep seeing mentions of how Blackwall is a mentor-figure to the Inquisitor, but is that actually confirmed?)
In the end, I guess it all depends on how iconoclastic BioWare felt.
Only not.
In my opinion, in my opinion.
Frankly why so many romances anyway. As of now, there's a man and a woman who like men, a man and a woman who like women, and an extra man and woman who like everybody. So effectively two of each sex for each sex. Not sure why two more were necessary. Is it because of the race gate? Like, non human males get Solas instead of Dorian? Something like that?
I'm a huge Blackwall fan, so of the remaining 3, I include him automatically. Honesty first. I think if he is romanceable, it would be with either gender and any race, because as a warden fighting darkspawn, he would have learned that race and gender don't define the worth of his companions.
What is known about Solas is that being an elf is of minor importance to his self-identity and that his catch phrase is "It's complicated." For this reason, I think he's fairly receptive to a world outside the one he's known, including, perhaps, romance. If he is a romance option, again, I don't think things like race or gender would matter.
Vivienne is a powerful woman for whom status is everything and she's worked very hard to be in a position of command. She's probably sacrificed a lot to achieve her power and influence, and anyone wishing to catch her eye should be prepared to take a back seat to the ambition she's already invested so much in. For this reason, I suspect that defrosting the ice queen is going to be a (perhaps only nearly) impossible challenge. If she is a LI, I hope she's only interested in a s/s romance. Straight males already had their turn to tame the Witch of the Wilds.

But melting the ice queen is a common male fantasy, just look at every black and white movie ever made. Lauren Bacall's only reason to be in movies was to be melted again and again by whatever dude who happened to be starring.
Considering how little we actually know about any of the characters it's hard to say outright whether a romance would suit them or not. And I assume they're going to develop Vivienne's character beyond the little blurbs we've heard about her. I mean, Morrigan seemed pretty ambitious and self centered initially.
But I've got no dog in this fight.

Exactly! I don't understand all the absolute statements that people are making (or the basis of the imagined dialogue in the character threads) - we know almost nothing about these characters yet. Assumptions about what's "in character" for most of them is based on almost nothing.
Seriously. I honestly don't get how people care about an aspect of the game that back in the day we used to laugh at as a little side thing. The tumblr-generation is why we can't have nice things.
Eh, I don't think it's a generational issue, I think it's about appealing to fans of other genres of games. I think Bioware's recent games have added to their audience by having that extra character content (which romance is obviously part of), which drives sales amongst people whose gaming history is heavier on the adventure games and visual novels than it is on RPGs (or action-RPG hybrids). And nothing wrong with that - I think it's great if the game can appeal to more people - since it's still not a core focus of the game itself, who cares if that segment of the market wants to talk about it?
play as a female elf and have celene as romance

I have to agree with this.
I can see Vivienne, and race-gated, since she will like to have somebody worthy of her position by her side. I guess a bisexual human-only romance. (We know bisexuality is not an issue at all in Orlais society due to *spoilers*). Or if not race-gated, only a flirt thing, nothing serious.
The second one its guessing 100%.

In the end Vivienne willingly gives up all her power and influence to become a stay at home mom.
It would be funny to see the bros cry and moan if it was the opposite and the inquisitor gave up everything to become a stay at home dad while Vivienne runs the empire. The former inquisitor welcomes her back home every evening with a kiss and a drink.
