Are you retconning any past stories when you play The Keep?

Any of the playthroughs that I completed pretty much worked out the way I wanted, so I'll try to recreate them as much as possible.

What I will be using the keep for is to create a save with a Dwarven or City Elf Warden, I was never able to complete DA:O with either of these, I just couldn't get a feel for them but I'd like to see the consequences of their actions.

I also might play around with some of the decisions I was never able to make, like siding with the Werewolves or Templar's in DA:O or leaving Carver or Bethany to die in the deeproads but I'm not sure. Even though it is just setting flags, I still might not able able to bring myself to make those decisions.

Not really possible for me to retcon anything, since pretty much everything has happened.   Really good games like Dragon Age sort of exist as a multi-phased universe for me.    I have played through most possible outcomes in both games.    I don't really consider anyone of them the 'canon' storyline.

That said, I do have a system for which style I always play first - that of the 'chaotic good' hero type.   So my options in the first world state will probably reflect those past Wardens and Hawkes that reflect those choices.

If I do end up changing anything at all, it will be because the respective consequences turned out way different in Inquisition than I would have liked. Though even then, it'll only be changes that won't brutally differ from my Warden or Hawke's personality.

For example, if an alive Architect turns out less troublesome than a dead one, then tough luck, because keeping him alive would be severely out of character for the Warden in question.

But if a hardened Leliana is different in Inquisition than a non-hardened Leliana, I could actually change that, because the difference between offering comfort instead of offering insight after the Marjolaine encounter isn't big enough to compromise what my Warden was like.

Funny thing, this...

A couple of years ago when the witcher 2 (I know, I know, not a withcer form but stay with me, please) released I played it, and remembered that without a second thought, I sided with iorveth the first time around. Then I let the game lay there for a couple years, unitl recently I decided to play it again. And when I played it again, I saw iorveth for what he truly is, a zealous scared bigot. And sided with roche without hesitation. This totally changed my game but I think I made those choices differently because I grew up, learned more about the world and how people are. Basically, I made a more mature decision this time around, instead of unthinkingly siding with the repressed.

This is similar to the templar-mage thing. I've always sided with the mages. Always. Because they were repressed. But recently, I've grown to appreciate the templar's point of view more. I'm not calling them right or anythign like that. I just... understand more.

That's why, in the keep, I will be critically remaking all of my decisions anew. A lot of them will still be the same but... I think i'll surprise myself on some points (for example, on my initial playthrough, I let anders live, I'm not going to do that in the keep. It's hypocritical. I kill so many for doing a LOT less. Why should he be allowed to live?)

Not for the world states I'll re-create, but I might create a completely new world state.

I'm pretty happy with my 2 main playthroughs which I intend to import, so I'll try to recreate them as accurately as possible. Later on I may try world states that I haven't played myself but want to test and see how they'd affect DA:I, though.

Not as things stand right now, did one rather large change a little while back and I'm pretty happy with it right now. Can see changing maybe a choice or two but nothing massive.

I generally do a couple playthroughs. My first will be true to the decisions I made in the 1st two games.

subsequent playthroughs may be modified just to see what happens

Hi OP,

I am in the Keep beta program and I must say that it is shaping up pretty well so far. I personally do not think there are any retcons as Bioware seems to be incorporating as much player decided choices across all the dragon age games.

Currently, I think people are still giving feedback on stuff to include/shore up. Due to NDA issues, beta users cannot be more specific but rest assured, whatever your world state is is entirely up to your choices.

Probably going to have to retcon my Warden's LI since I doubt the Keep will allow both for Leliana and Morrigan to be romanced since that was only possible due to a bug. Considering unkilling Alister since that was done based on the Epilogue slide saying there was a rebellion in his name if I kept him alive and not my Warden's personality. I might also change my Warden to splitting those two Dalish up by sleeping with the girl, because I only didn't do that because of the reward.

I've done the Anders decision both ways at the end of DA2, so might retcon that one from my current 'canon' of keeping him alive depending on what impact it has on events. Might just have two mostly identical states switching DA1 romance and Anders life state.

Not really.

My DAO save is perfect in my opinion and the only things that I will be filling in that would be different (technically) would be the DA2 content, as I never bought the DLC because I didn't really like that game.

I'm going to retrofit it to what I remember of my favourite playthrough Arabella. It may not be exact, since the file got deleted a loooong time ago, but it's going to be pretty close to a not perfect, but pretty happy ending.

I played through DAO many different times. The stories are starting to 'blur' so to speak. I will try and stay true to my first playthrough, where I just did what seemed natural to me.

Eventually I may do a World state where the chars made the chocies I could never bring myself to make yes. Or try at least. Be interesting after all to see those worlds.

I'm sure I will just to see the difference in the game. What changes I'll make, I don't know till that time comes.

I've done so many playthroughs/half playthroughs, etc. with varying decisions long ago that I don't think I have any sort of set idea of what my Warden, Hawke, or canon is like  I'll just go with what I think makes for an exciting and interesting world state.

I'm kinda happy it's this way for me so I'll be able to really feel like I am only my inquisitor with Hawke and the Warden being completely separate entities I don't necessarily associate myself with.   I'm sure that sounds a bit strange to people very attached to their previous characters and decisions.  I never got attached to any one Warden/Hawke/storyline.

I remember my "canon" playthrough pretty well, so I will be importing that as directly as possible into the Keep. Warts and all. I cannot speak for future runs through the Keep and Inquisition, but my first run through the keep will be as close to the original playthough as I can get.

Umm, I might have murder-knifed Brother Genetivi in the back of his head during my first Sacred Ashes quest....probably going to pretend that never happened.

I wanted to keep every decision I made in the previous games, but I am kind of tempted to go all anti-mage in the Keep and play as a qunari mage in Da:I, just to see the possible drama come up.

Technically I suppose I will be, but not intentionally (or not necessarily intentionally) - I've replayed DAO and DA2 too many times to remember what I did in any one playthrough, so I'll be approximating them rather than repllicating them in the keep.

Although if there's some ideal world state for specific content, then I will build a history just for that - I think it's brilliant that The Keep will make that such a simple thing to do (certainly easier than editing my ME2 save files for ME3).

The first Origins state I am using is one I don't remember too well, so a lot of the smaller details may end up being different. But past that I think I am going to try and keep as true to them as I can be. I've played them enough times to get the result I wanted anyway. Although, I did consider changing the fate of Carver for my Male Mage Hawke (who is my canon Hawke). I had him become a Templar even though I prefer him as a Warden. But I've since decided to keep him that way because the fun of that playthrough was how none of it made any sodding sense.

I'm more for using the Keep to make the playthroughs I never managed. The Origins and 2 run throughs I did for purely trophy collecting reasons were pretty grim and not ones I enjoyed. But I may recreate/finish them in the Keep for my later Inquisition games to see how it plays out. If I can stand to be mean, that is. IRL I'm a total ass, but stick me in the Bioware game and suddenly I have a conscience.

Yeah.  My main Hawke was a mage, but I'm retconning him into a rogue instead.  I did have a rogue Hawke but I never finished that playthrough nor do I remember anything about it really.

I'm also sure I won't remember every single decision, so there will be some unintentional retcons there too.

Possibly, I'm not sure yet. I might eventually just do a Decisions I'll Never Make save and import that.

It's likely I'll mix and match my DAO and DA2 world states. After the first DA2 run I deliberately made world states that followed the same themes but now I think that's too artificial. If I think of DA as a book series I'm writing -for lack of a better word- then different heroes following the same idealogical path works fine but it's too pat if I'm treating Thedas as real history.

It's a good thing I have time to make a decision because right now I'm dithering on what direction to take.

I really wish ME3 had a Keep...
