Losing patience with games.

I find myself quickly losing patience with more and more games, especially those that are lore and cutscene heavy. Where I once used to watch them and read almost anything I could find, these days I just press escape and get annoyed if I have to wait more than 5 minutes for some action.

It's gotten to the point that I think the writers of the games, care too much about their own work and forget that I just want to play the damn game and not watch some lame ass character walking me through some mission and watch scripted event #17

When I was younger I ate all that stuff up, but then again, when I was younger game developers didn't constantly force me watch scripted events.

The worst part is if it's unskippable, which pisses me off even more as it kills any replay value.

Easy solution:

Do not buy games at launch, wait for reviews and only buy games whose reported features do not include your mentioned issues.

I only really feel like that on repeat playthroughs. The rest of the time I will usually watch/read everything.

There's nothing wrong with story in game.

But always, please, let someone abort cut scenes with the push of a button.

You mean the escape key?

Sounds like you have changed, not the games.

Yep, that works for me :) although I have not lost patience with the games I really like.

Not all games have that, hence unskippable cutscene.

*skips sh*tloads of useless cutscenes and walls of texts*

I only see/read very important or artistic ones.

Well, I don't have the patience to learn the Tutorials too!

Heh, never play Metal Gear games then. They have long ass cutscenes.

Yeah, unskippable cutscenes are frustrating. I can tolerable them as long as they're not too lenghty. Especially hate it when there's a boss intro and if you die in the fight the game forces you to watch it again without the option to skip straight to the actual fight.

It's more than likely this. I went through something similar myself recently.

Compare old FPS with modern FPS please. It's actually a direct change. I tried to play Deadspace today, cause hey I heard it's a good game. Unskippable cutscene, pressed escape, enter, space, nothing happened. Now Shadow Warrior, a game that pride itself of mixing old school with new school, has cutscenes that can be skipped.

Sorry bro, but games didn't always have constant forced scripted events and cutscenes.

No.

ADD is a thing. That you have.

Don't lie to yourself. Alot of people have it, no one will judge you. It's better to accept your flaws.

I have played through ME2 a dozens of times, after the 3rd time or so I started to walk off and make tea while the whole rebuild stuff was happening.

Unskippable cutscenes are uncool, but since the vast majority of players don't replay games that much, they are here to stay I guess.

No it's pretty much BS, when the guy who diagnosed it admits it's a scam then it's safe to say it's BS.

Now now Clone, I was diagnosed with it, but I wasn't affected by the medication, so I have a "unexplained mental condition".

But I don't skip cutscenes on first playthroughs ever. I read every line, try to find everything that would enhance my understanding of the world and the story that is important to where I go next.

No they didn't always have those because it was not possible to have such "cutscenes" but since they became a thing some games allow then to be skipped and others don't. Its no different today.

By your own admission there was a time you didn't mind watching them and now you don't. Games have not changed you have.

Also by cutscenes I will add anytime you have to go thru dozens of unskipable text dialogue no matter how many times you have played the game or that scene before. Nothing like a game over then having to go thru five plus minutes of text boxes you have already read to get to the fight you just lost.

I personally can't say I have run into that many games where cutscenes are most of the game. Sure most games have a cutscene of some sort but I can't remember one I have played recently that is more cutscene than game. I think the last time I had that was back in the old adventure game days many many years ago.

That would be a great comparison if Dead Space wasn't a survival horror game.

To be honest, it sounds like you should just research the games more to see if they're heavily action based or if they're trying to put some story into things.
