That's very sad and unfortunate to hear, but like Gilsa said, play exactly what would keep you into the game. I haven't touched the human characters yet, but I don't feel that the other races were added just for fans, because they wouldn't have put much effort into the reactions of the races. Kind of like what Origins did, people really didn't care about your race.
Well, in Origins people didn't care much about your race - but every race had an area / quests designed for them.
City Elf - Alienage in Denerim (and Dalish Camp if you were into Dalish).
Dalish Elf - Dalish Camp in Brecilan Forest (or whatever that place is called)
Humans - whole thing with Arl Howe. Also Denerim and Redcliff.
Dwarves - Orzammar
So no matter who you played in DA:O there was a place in which you felt like in home (ok everyone was mean to you in Orzammar if you were a warden dwarf - but still better this than nothing). And that's what I miss.
For example Valmaar could be wonderful hub quest for carta dwarves - instead it's just a short "kill everything that lives" kind of thing. If I had played an elf I would have been terribly disappointed with Dalish camp in Exalted Plains. That part of the game was just sad.
Whereas if you play human you feel welcomed everywhere. And you don't get stuff (this one is from Leli
) like this: "you're a dwarf and you probably don't even believe in the Maker" for which you can't even reply.
As I said above at this point Merry keeps me in the game. I spent so much time with her (almost 70 hours now) and I just don't want to leave her even if playing a human female sounds like more fun now.
By the way - are there any Qunari in DA:I besides the protagonist?
