Hello fellow Children of the Stone :)

What specialisation have you chosen for your dwarves?

I've gone Tempest rogue archer.

Though am contemplating a dwarven templar too

I went with 2H reaver because:

1) Cadash was warrior caste to begin with and I still have fond memories of Oghren talking about the berserker spec, how they get real mad and stuff.

2) I nixed templar for RP reasons. As a smuggler of lyrium, I've seen what the stuff does to addicts. I don't touch the product. Simple. =p

They're really pretty, Gilsa! I think I like  the Canon Brosca the most! I never truly took notice to my Aeducan and Brosca, because I couldn't make them exactly how I wanted to. I did make one really good Brosca that I'll never forget. Once I go home for Christmas, I'll take a screenshot of him  :D . I know exactly how you feel Dave. I couldn't play a female or same-sex character, but look at me almost finishing my CesdricXDorian play through  . I'm staring on my CesparXCassandra play through right now. I thinks he's literally the best freaking character I've ever made in my entire customization gaming career :P .

I have done two dwarves, both rogues. Hella was a DW/Assassin and Olim was an Artificer/Archer.

I wasn't too crazy about Artificer...it's very useful, but Assassin was FLASHY FUN! Archer is a ton of fun though, so they ended up being about the same level of shiny for me.

Next dwarf will be a warrior, Probably S&S Templar, since I'm doing a 2H Warrior Champion right now with my Trev. Although 2H Warrior Reaver is appealing as well.....and I love archer and rogues in general, so I might end up doing an Archer/Tempest next, who knows.

Artificer is such a pain to acquire. I feel like I'm skipping around so much to gain the materials

I think I'm gonna go with two rogues for my dwarves. I don't like warriors as much and I already have warriors planned for qunari and human... I heard assassin archer is surprisingly a good combo?

I haven't done archer Assassin, but it does look pretty fun. May respec Hella as an archer to play around with that.

All the specialities are a pain to get, but the ones I've liked so far the most were Assassin and Champion, because i had to assassinate and duel people for them, not just collect stuff.

The other two I've done are Artificer and Knight Enchanter, which didn't feel as integrated with the concept. KE took me the longest, I think.

Hey fellow dwarf-lovers:

Anyone see the race/gender/class poll that I made in the Scuttlebutt (Spoilers) subforum?  I tried a new spin on this poll type (which I've seen a dozen of lately).  This one asks people to identify any race/gender/class combinations that have or intend to play.  It was actually with dwarves in mind when I started the poll.

Usually, these polls just allow you to pick your "canon" or "first" PC.  Inevitably, those results show dwarves in dead last.  But I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't the whole story.  I thought that dwarves probably get more action on later playthroughs (i.e. they might not be people's first or canon choices, but they are still being picked).  Remember that the DA: O data showed that dwarves were about 5% of the characters.  Particularly, people have this assumption that female dwarves are the least popular race/gender combination.

So I created a poll and posted it on 6 different DA: I forums (here and gameFAQs) to see what would happen.  Guess what?  I was kind of right:

Here's the current "dwarf" related data (with 920 votes calculated):

Out of the 22 race/gender/class combinations, dwarves rank:

9. female dwarf rogue            36 votes (4%)
14. male dwarf warrior           25 votes (3%)
16. female dwarf warrior        24 votes (3%)
19. male dwarf rogue            18 votes (2%)

While on the surface, this doesn't seem so good, the female dwarf rogue is in the top half of options (beating other options, like male elf mage and female qunari warrior).  Woot!  Female dwarf rogues are among the top half of character types played.  (granted it's only 4% of the vote, but still!)

Dwarves currently have 11.2% of the vote.  So, keep up the good work, my fellow dwarf fans!  We are not alone!

Wow, so elf warriors, whatever gender, are really unpopular. Why am I unsurprised to find two of my favorites for PTs near the bottom (f-dwf-warrior and f-elf-warrior)? :P  But female human and elf mages near the top, that was almost a given considering the race and gender gating for romances. Both Cullen and Solas romances would have drawn a lot of mage PTs for the extra story potential, plus a lot of people have wanted to run a Dalish (non-circle) mage since DAO. I admit, I'm still baffled at the popularity of humans (maybe it's because they get to be nobles?). To me, most of the fun of a fantasy RPG game is getting to play something different.

I know, right.  My favorites are:

* male dwarf warrior      (14th place)

* male qunari warrior    (16th place)

* female dwarf warrior   (15th place)

* male dwarf rogue       (19th place)

Sigh.  Looks like I'm bound to love the underdog.  Even though I don't play female dwarf rogues, I'm totally becoming a fan just because they are the only dwarves cracking the top half!  Sigrun and Harding have done us proud.

My Cadash is an Assassin archer, she's only level twelve so I don't have the good stuff yet.

Huh, interesting on the poll results. In a way, it doesn't surprise me; a lot of people (myself included) play a variety on second and further playthroughs. Myself, I play every race at least once all the way through, and generally every class at least once. I just love everything about DA's races and want to experience them all. I went dwarf first this time around because I'd played a Dalish rogue first in Origins (hence my username, it comes from that time) even though he ended up not being my canon. We had to be humans in DA2, and before qunari were announced I'd already decided on dwarf to complete the cycle. I'll do qunari first next time if they're still an option. ;) Wasn't sure Dorn was going to be my canon even though I used my main world state for him, but... I just love his Dorny dwarfiness so much, I think he's going to stick around as my #1 for Inquisition. ;P

Also, I fished through my screenshots and quickly grabbed a few height comparison shots between male Cadash and Cassandra:

Eee!!! So cute. I am honestly considering going back on a save with my Cadash who romanced Dorian and playing the Cassmance with him.

...I "accidentally" romanced Dorian with Big Tex, then reloaded and tried the Cassmance, then reloaded and went with Dorian again. DORIAN!!! WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME. So I still have a Cassmance spot open, and I adored Cadash/Dorian, but I've already done that and if anyone has a chance of me getting through a Cassmance with, it's my snarky smooth Cadash.

It is a lot of fun romancing Cass with a snarky smooth Cadash. :) Dorn's not all snark, but he's quippy enough to get the comedian dwarves line from Cassandra. I dunno if it's specific to the romance or just being a smartass, but he always got a few sarcastic lines out of her that I haven't gotten with my other characters, even my super duper snarky/charming rogue qunari.

It's such a Han-Leia dynamic, I love it. And Cadash being a smooth mf works so much better than the other races for me, idk why. And def wih the British VA, he's fantastic for that.

I like the American VA with Dorian tho, which is probably why I couldn't keep Big Tex away from him. Snarky/snarky is fun, but earnest/snarky = the best.

It's probably the criminal background, particularly the smuggling bit. ;)

I prefer the American voice myself; I use the English one for my Dalish and so far I haven't really gotten into it yet... I dunno, it just seems like the American one sounds a bit less neutral/calm at appropriate times and I'm a sucker for the deepness of it. As far as the males go, anyway; I haven't heard much of the female American voice, but I'm overall loving the English one on my human. Plus I'm a lore nut and while you can work around to where the English accent could fit for dwarf and qunari... it just feels too weird to me, aha. Same when using American for Dalish and human.

Still, the ability to pick is really nice. :D

Think after I eat something, I'm going to go and remake my Brosca in the CC.

I'm using the British voice for my dwarf. My Cadash needs to play the right role if he wants to be the perfect undercover agent. He just kind of stuck with the British accent because he enjoys the weird look from his carta brothers and sisters.

I mostly go with the funny dialogue, because that's how I am in real life, and besides I always tend to find it quite funny when everyone else is serious, and I'm just like "So how will I use the restroom with this mark....?"

That what I chose as well! Although I started wondering if dual wield was better for tempest, bc it seems as an archer I'm away from the fray a lot and can't take advantage of the elemental potions as much.

Ha! Thanks Gilsa. ;P

So, went ahead and redid my Brosca. For reference, this is him in Origins:

Spoiler

And this is him in the DAI CC:

Spoiler

There weren't any hairstyles close enough to his quite to my liking, so I went shorter. Plus, I can see him cropping his short over time. I didn't give him a full beard because stubble always read more "thug" to me and I wanted him to look like a thug. Gave him a couple scars too, because I would've if I had the option back in DA:O.

I imagine nowadays aside from happily Wardening, he's visiting every tavern, whorehouse and hitting on any lady of any race who will give him the time of day. :P He's my only loose/sexually casual DA PC and he was a lot of fun to play, going out of my usual comfort zone. He's got a soft spot for the downtrodden though, and would get along well with Sera and appreciate her sense of humor. He also takes being a Warden pretty seriously and still sends home money and letters to Rica and his nephew Endrin, even though now she doesn't really need the extra coin, what with Bhelen in charge of Orzammar. He does it anyway because he'll always look out for his sister. :P

I actually haven't watched any Cassandra or Josephine romance videos because I like finding out about the romances through you guys in this thread. I live vicariously through your enjoyment!

I've finally got the ball rolling on my second Cadash. I didn't feel right playing a non-dwarf on a Brosca import (think I already mentioned that, sorry) so I had to ponder how to make her feel different than my first. Picking different choices wasn't good enough. Inspiration struck in Haven when I was in the jail area, finally unlocking all those cells that I couldn't reach on my warrior. It was just more paperwork and as I found myself rifling through them, I realized that this was a realistic excuse to RP a dwarf that was knowledgeable about history (all the inquisition perks) and how things worked. (This was a bit difficult for me to rationalize on my first Cadash thug because it wasn't like she went to boarding school and studied up on all this -- I planned on skipping the lore perks when I rerolled her later on.)

More importantly, this is the part that makes my second Cadash so interesting to play. There's no specified age for the Inquisitor. They can be young or as old as we want, which is quite a change from the limited ranges that our Origin characters had. I picked one of the older complexions and started RPing her as dwarven Judi Dench, inspired by M from the James Bond movies. And she absolutely is taking advantage of telling people she's the Herald. I don't know if she believes in the Stone or Andraste yet. I've been avoiding that conversation with Josephine until I get a better feel. For now, it's just an illusion she's maintaining to grease the wheels and get stuff done.

Edit: Make-up because she's a well-groomed smooth talker. Like Puss in Boots.

I watched the Josie video because I was sure I wouldn't do it, now I kind of want to pair her with a more criminal Cadash.
