Welcome to the Dwarf Side! We are few but mighty. I'm doing a rogue first ....leaning towards dual wield assasin, but I'll finalize that when I'm playing.

For some reason, I keep imagining my dwarven warrior wearing red armor.

I suppose a Cadash might make a mage/templar decision based upon the lyrium trade. Lyrium smuggling could go out of style if there are no solid buyers (like the Chantry was) though perhaps free mages could offer a better business opportunity.

I don't think the smugglers sold to the Chantry. The Chantry bought through legal channels. Templars (and mages bribing Templars) seemed to be the smugglers market.

...So how are you guys?  Planning on creating a Sword n' Board Male Dwarf.  As for the Mage-Templar conflict...I don't know.  I'll probably pick based on what I didn't pick my first play through.

Welcome! My first Inquisitor will be Zhenya, a sword 'n board female dwarf. I'll probably run a rogue eventually, though still not sure whether the rogue will be male or female yet.

Oh you already have a name down.  All I know is he's gonna have a beard and some scars.  Otherwise, not a clue...

For Hipster!Cadash, my tentative plan is to take the default name and add some vowels or something...like she got the default name and decided it was "too common" so she changed it. Buut I might just pick something random, who knows.

Name, class, general appearance, personality, favorite clothes (even if we never get to put them in anything besides armor), etc. Most of it pretty flexible, but I like knowing "who" my character is when I start, at least in broad terms. It makes dialogue choices more natural.

Super glad to see a dwarf with dark skin. :) I was worried for a minute that they weren't going to have that.

One thing I was thinking about recently: for those who are playing Cadash, how do you plan to have your dwarf feel about Templar vs Mages? Not trying to stroke any fires here, I am asking for your rp perspective. :P

It's an interesting feud for Cadash, because your average dwarf probably doesn't give a crap, but Cadash's family is so tied into the Lyrium trade, that you could really play with that. If they're a Carta loyalist (can we play that? lmfao it's so hard to tell right now), they could support the Templars, or they could try to toe the line so they don't make anyone mad...and in the end, they still have the lyrium to sell to the winners.

OR if your Cadash is really not into the smuggling life, they may have seen enough of the Chantry corruption wrt to lyrium that they're more predisposed to support the mages. (Or if theyr'e REALLY lawful good, they may support the Templars and just want to slash out the ones that were bad)

Another interesting thing to factor in is Cadash's history with the elves. The settlement they take their name from was the one that was destroyed by Kal-Sharok for helping elves. This probably matters more for the elf conflicts, but it's going to play into my Cadash's perspective on Templar/Mages.

Or maybe none of that factors in at all for your Cadash. What are you guys thinking? I'm going to play a Cadash who is sort of a hopeless romantic and wants to "restore" her family's "good" name, so she's going pro-mage, although her convictions are not ...as strong as she thinks they are, so there may be some hiccups along the way and if there's a truce option, she'll take it.

Well as I preach all over the place lol, I want my dwarf to have his loyal tied to the chantry, but doesn't really mind the Templars, and think that the Mages should be in the circle. But the templars shouldn't be as strict on the mages, since it pushes them toward corruption, hence all the blood mages running around. My dwarf wouldn't forget where he came from, but the glowing hand makes my character realize that he's important than what he has been doing his whole life, and I'll do a lot to make sure that my carta "family" doesn't end up dead. I would want them to be the first people that I invite to stay in Skyhold, which would make it easier to watch them. I'll restore my name on the surface, and invite all surface dwarves to have a home in Skyhold under the name Cadash.

I like the elves, but not so much of the dalish elves, so I'll want my character to reflect that also. It will be kind of personal for my characters, because I feel that the casteless are the same as the elves in the Alienage. While the Dalish elves could be helping the alienage elves out, they don't and call them traitors. Like dwarves with houses don't help the casteless ones. I like my character to have flaws, and holding grudges will be a big one for him. At the end of the day, my dwarf will be pro-chantry, pro-circle, and pro-family/carta.

I'm going down a fun little rabbit hole thinking about a dwarf that's a bit like a hobbit.  Lyrium smuggling is dark and gritty, but the carta controls all surface trade, and not everyone is going to be in on the darker side of the business.  There are support people who might be working the counter while the shady deals are going on in the back room.  They might even know about the back room, but not be part of it.  It's a different kind of surfacer, at any rate.  I'm thinking of playing one whose family's been on the surface a while and adapted a bit.

My Cadash will be Pro-Templar (minus the religion), but will try to go for peace for a few reasons. Why? Well for RP reasons, considering why the dwarves of Kal-sharok betrayed her family.  That's not to say she paints all mages with the same brush, but she does feel it is the best option. Plus she doesn't want either side killed, to keep the family happy. I mean she has to worry about the money in coming  too. I mean just because the fate of the world is in your hands doesn't mean you should forget your family (really hoping to be able to talk about her family, if not meet them).

Oh my Cadash (dual wielding Artificer) will be named Isana (dwarven word for lyrium, which seems fitting considering).  :D

This seems odd though, since the Chantry should have been supplying the Templars with lyrium until recently- and it's not like mages in the Circle could be getting non-Chantry approved lyrium.

Who were they smuggling to I wonder...

Templars buying extra on side, Tevinter, apostates, and probably the Dalish. There are quite a few buyers who wouldn't be able to get it through legal means and lyrium is expensive, so you don't even have to sell a whole lot of it to make a fortune.

So, I will be rolling dwarf to start in DA:I but I am wondering if anyone remembers DAO much how dwarf noble rolls out through the game? I heard something about human noble, that certain npcs will recognize you or rather the family, and a bit of the dialogue is different? I wonder if anything like that happens to Dwarf Noble? If not I may just try Dwarf Commoner then and do the whole, rise to power thing :P

My first / only play through in DAO was Mage.

My Cadash will pretend not to care and then try to get the best outcome for everyone because she cares a lot. XD

Ideally she would try to give Mages more freedom without letting the power hungry run off, and the Templars act more as their guardians than their jailors. Think Hogwarts with more supervision.

All origins have npc's that react differently towards them, there are also unique dialog options for the Warden to choose. I don't want to start listing stuff off because they could be seen as spoilers.

Guys, I totally decided on the name of my Inquisitor a little while ago! Any opinions on the name "Markus Cadash"? He's going to be templar, a two-handed sword wielding warrior, bald with a full beard, and romance Cassandra with a british voice :)

I like Markus! Sounds like a fun PT. Cadash/Cass = awesome. :D If I decide to roll a male character for her, it will be a dwarf for sure.

I haven't decided on the voiceset yet! I think I'll wait til I hear the options in the CC.

I've actually always kind of liked DA's dwarves. Sure Orzammar has a pretty terrible way of doing things *I'd like to think Bhelen will be enough to get the ball rolling on that* but they've got a lot of things going for them that I enjoy in fiction.

Almost all of my Wardens were pragmatic, only one of my HNs passed on the smuggling and most of the criminal activities (and even she did a few of those).

HN is kind of bland in that regard, but DN gets all sorts of interesting reactions when he or she returns to Orzammar, some of them a bit unexpected, and I'm told the male DN gets extra bits on top of that. The decision between Bhelen and Harrowmont is very personal for a DN.
