I was actually expecting much better beards, since Skyrim had some of the best beard textures I've seen (key note: facial hair is not the same type of hair as scalp hair; it's coarser and bushier) and the devs were talking a lot about how they were aggressively eyeballing Skyrim to see what it had that could work well in Dragon Age.

But that's all I'm gonna say about it, because there are already a zillion threads about what people think sucks about this game, and I happen to like this thread's overall positive attitude.

That's an awesome looking dwarf, good sir!

I agree about the beards. They are not perfect (they still look like something from Paint; the usual Bioware Hair & Beard problem), but they look the most fitting on dwarves. Dwarves are just destined for majestic beards!

They definitely could of done better with meshes and textures for hair in general, but I do settle for looking like I fit in with the world, having ultra realistic on the PC only while every NPC was lack lustre would break the immersion.

The best thing they could of done with beards for DA:I was actually fitted them properly to each face shape, rather than leaving gaps over all but a few faces. Still they did improve on beards from DA:O and DA2, at least now when selecting a beard you don't get automatic gaunt cheeks. We take our victories where we can.

Finally got her bio up!

71xIqcm.jpg

Ardris Cadash

Born roughly 9:12 on a ship off the coast of the Waking Sea

Her father is a smuggler/swordsman in the carta, a surface dwarf. Her mother was a fence for the carta, a lifelong resident of Orzzamar, dust town.  Eventually after their many meetings, her father convinced her mother to leave with him to the surface, for a much better life. She accepted, the pair was married by the human chantry about three months later.

Ardris was born the following spring, on the ship, en route to the Free Marches. The pair continued to work with the carta, but settled in the city of Ostwick primarily.

Ardris is the eldest of five. A brother came a year later, then following with three more sisters. Her father is a foreward thinking man, a worshipper of the Maker, so Ardris got a nice education, was brought up to belief both Chantry worship from her surface father, an the worship of the Stone of her Orzzamar mother.

Aroun the time of the 5th Blight, her late teen's, Ardris, an her brother began life in the carta, becoming protectors of caravans. One of her sisters, while not an 'activ'e member of the carta, runs a stall in the market, but provides discounts to fellow members, also is a fence.

While by no means a master swordswoman, Ardris was tutored by many fine warriors, constantly seeking to perfect her skills in battle, while keeping her own set of morals.

In the year 9:40, at age of 28, Ardris was chosen out of list of hopefuls to attend t he Conclave. Fully expecting to only be gone a month or so. She bade her parents, her siblings farewell, looking foreward to a taste of freedom. Fate has other plans apparently.......now her real journey begins.

I hope that's not too cheesy. I have it in my head she actually has a loving family even though her family is mafia. Her parents are alive, an loving, her siblings as well. She grew up with Chantry worship, alongside her mother's Stone icons of the ancestors/paragons so she's actually a mix of both, leaning sliiightly more to Andrastism, since she never grew up in Orzzamar, she values the Stone, etc if more out of tradition than actual faith.

She has the equivilent of a high school diploma, enjoys reading books, practicing her sword skills. Has the Free March/Ostwickian accent (I use the UK one) so she doesn't come off as 'thuggish'

Her parents now in their older years, are more fences than active roles, people like her younger sisters running stalls in the market that double as fencing outposts, stuff like that.

I got it in my head that she has a very nice life. While not perfect, this is a crime family, I imagine they're just cogs in a huge machine. They have a tiny house in the Marches, her mother has a tiny garden, her father treasures the tiny library he built over the years.

On assignments, she is particularly careful to not draw her weapon in haste, trying to have some sense of honor in a type of career that is essesstionally honorless, or 'honor among theives'

I'll update more when I progress her story   ;)

Whew that was long. Her brother is my M!Cadash, Rascal. He has a 'real' name, but y'know how nicknames gotta stick with you, especially in carta life.  He's the rogue to her warrior, the snark to her polite stoicism

I sorta have in it my head they're more twins rather than a year or so apart.  The games are AU- in which one of them is the 'chosen one' the other isn't, by flip of a coin at the Conclave

I am genuinely very happy to see that this thread has the reputation of being a safe haven.  Good on all of us, fellow dwarf-fans.  We done good.  Our ranks continue to swell and the pics on the past two or three pages of everyone's Cadash quizzies are amazing.  They look so damn good.  But I might be a bit biased since I tend to think that Cadash Inquisitors are the best looking, in general.   :D

That is why all my wardens are either elves or dwarves lol

2 f female dwarves, one commoner, one royal

my only male dwarf warden, Baltion, whom I love to bits. He's Leliana's LI, my current import into Inquisition

I have a city elf, began 1 dalish elf, both women

I just can't make nice looking humans, I think I make dwarves the best in Origins

A question, Dwarf lovers if you will indulge me. Who is your favorite LI to pair with a Dwarf? I was considering a gentleman Dwarf for Dorian, but I am unsure...

I've only experienced the one romance path, but can confirm that Sera's arc was wonderfully written.

I've done that one already. And yes, it was wonderful. (ooh, double entendre!)

Scout Harding!

Jokes aside: I have the same problem with Cassandra that I had with Morrigan in DAO. After romancing her once I want to try out the others, but... I always end up with candles, peoms and flowers and a naked Cassandra! I guess it could be worse...

You wouldn't happen to know which eye shape preset you used, would you?  His eyes are amazing!

I can't believe you guys are that bothered as to carry the Cass conversation over here. I'm not out to harass you (and I'm not doing it now). I've also never posted in this thread before.  If I was that bad, I'd be trolling here every day.. but I don't. Yet you make it out like you're being bullied or something.

It isn't a big of a deal that someone doesn't like dwarf/human sex. lol. Why does that surprise you? It's normal behavior to associate human women with human sex. Not all of this. But that doesn't mean you can't talk over there. Just don't expect everyone to be all ultra sensitive and not state their opinion.

And I can't believe you are that bothered by the fact that there are people romancing Cassandra with dwarf Inquisitors.  It is beyond ridiculous, since it doesn't harm you in any way.

People are upset at you because you are making judgments about them personally and insulting them based on a choice they are making in a videogame.

I don't know what judgements to make exactly. You're all humans like I am. I'm puzzled most of all. I can't figure out how to really approach this. Yet you're taking it so personally that you're making me feel like I'm in a debate with actual dwarves.

Which I'm not.

It doesn't harm me, you're right. I just think it's silly. And "cute" at best. Does that mean I'm stopping you? Writing letters to Bioware? What are you worried about? Do you simply expect everyone to be all accepting and get along? That's not realistic. Sometimes we are divided, people have strong opinions.. and there's nothing to do but accept the difference.

I'm not upset personally, I'm just pointing out your questionable antics.

Of course we are all humans. What are you even going on about?  Dwarves are a race option in this game. Some people are going to choose that option for various reasons.  Perhaps they like the culture of the dwarves. Perhaps they want a character with magic resistance. Maybe they want to play as a short guy or girl for simple aesthetic reasons. Perhaps they are really short IRL so they like a character that reflects their own proportions more accurately.

There are lots of potential reasons why people would pick a dwarf or an elf or a qunari.  I suspect most people who do so simply think those races are 'cool.'  So, again, why do you care?

People have companions that they like.  If a companion that they like is available to the type of Inquisitor they enjoy playing as, they are going to go for that option. It's that simple. You are the one throwing around words like 'fetish' and making assumptions about people you don't even know.

Perhaps you should just stop trying to wrap your brain around this and simply let it be.

I've played dwarves before. You don't have to defend their general presence. I even have said multiple times I'd love a dwarf specific game. With a majority of dwarf companions.

I just like things to be in their proper time and situation. It's annoying that people picked the Chantry game to end all Chantry games to carry on their dwarf (or qunari) love. That the game got delayed because enough people complainedt to have this.. when Bioware originally had another story in mind. It just shows how defiant people are being, wanting the games to be their own sandbox, instead of working with the premise.

As for romance and racial pairings, I never really gave it much thought until this game. Then realism and nudity changed it for me, I think. It wasn't the dwarves that bothered me at first though. I kind of spun out of control with Qunari hate, after running into youtube vids. The comments I saw discouraged me. People just laughing at the scene, saying Cass needs a "bull's dick" and not some "dead fagg0t mage" (Galyan). She was my favorite character I was waiting for. I expected better than stuff like this. But it's all become a big joke. I don't find it easy to like fellow Bioware fans anymore. This open nature of her relationship has brought in all kinds of people to abuse it or not respect where she's coming from.

I'm 5'4" and sturdy in real life. I find it a lot easier to physically identify with the dwarf ladies than any human woman I've ever seen in a video game, or am ever likely to. That's not the whole appeal of DA dwarves for me, but it is a part of it.

Anyway, I'm bewildered about why you even care that other people romance Cassandra with dwarf Inquisitors. Do you have the same problem with Qunari and elves, or is it just dwarves that you think should be deprived of glorious Seeker love?

I'm romancing Cass with my dwarf quisitor. I have just one qualm with that relationship. To really get her approval really high, you have to be the faithful Andrastian, which feels weird for a dwarf. It's not totally out of the question, but it seems odd.
