I'm not baiting. I'm stating dislike. This could have gone better (and was relatively OK), but when people are inclined to just put a person on an ignore list, it's a weak move. I don't even do that to the worst trolls. If this is supposed to be conflict free, then whatever. That's weak too.

But yeah, on topic, if there's anything else you want to discuss beyond "Quizzie dwarves don't make sense", because we've established that you can't muster up the faith for it and I can't be your "come to the Stone" spiritual adviser, I'm here.

I have no problem having a healthy little debate as long as it doesn't ultimately derail the thread but it's not weak or unreasonable for people who aren't interested in that to use the ignore list. World doesn't revolve around you or me, our contributions are not necessary for someone to be a fully actualized human.
But yeah, on topic, if there's anything else you want to discuss beyond "Quizzie dwarves don't make sense", because we've established that you can't muster up the faith for it, I'm here.
It just comes off as passive aggressive to me. If things are really that bad, I prefer a good fight. Then we all hug later. Err... or something. But to each their own.
Thank you for tolerating me btw. As for my faith..I can imagine a manipulative Carta Inquisitor. INot much else. If there was more room to be a villain, I'd play it. It'll never work for Qunari and me though. To me, they're just like Orcs. A monstrous race. At the very lesst, monstrous coupled with the Qun. Without the Qun, they're just for fetishists.. a race that has absolutely nothing going for it background wise. They're individuals, who operate on appearance alone. Even the writers barely tap into anything about them, except appearance. Otherwise, they act like humans. Whimsical humans. With horns. And I hate whimsical. I want a serious RPG. Not some B grade comedy.

I've played one dwarf and one qunari so far, and I enjoyed those stories a lot because they're not obvious protagonists. While the game could have done more in places to get people to react to this, on the whole it worked well for me.
My Cadash didn't believe in the Maker and told anyone who asked that she wasn't the Herald of anything. Her story arc was very much about trying to deal with all the expectations people had placed on her. She felt pretty lonely as an atheist - everyone around her was Andrastian in some sense, except Bull and Solas, who believed two entirely different brands of weird crap. And I guess Cole, who's ... Cole. I like to imagine that she thought about running away on a daily basis. But given that she didn't think the Maker existed, she was the only person who could close the rifts and stop Corypheus. She rose to the occasion and found strength in the people around her, even if they believed in things she didn't.
Meanwhile, my qunari mage believed in the Maker but thought the Chantry had got a lot of things wrong. A lot of the fun of playing him was defying everyone's expectations - not only was he an Andrastian, he was polite and diplomatic almost to a fault, he sided with the Templars and worked hard to make Vivienne the Divine. His crowing moment of awesome was when he pwned the entire Orlesian court, arrested Florianne, blackmailed Celene, Gaspard and Briala into working together and popped the 'Belle of the Ball' achievement all at the same time
. I wouldn't have found that nearly as satisfying while playing as a human.
Some people enjoy playing the fish out of water who becomes an unlikely hero. That's part of what I love about dwarves.

I love Adaar, because people think she's a monster, and because I can play her as graceful and polite and smart and subvert that. Do I wish she had more reactivity beyond "dat savage"? Yes. But it has nothing to do with her appearance and everything to do with her unique place in society that makes her such an attractive character to me.

Hey guys,i'll start a new gameplay today. I think that i'm going to do a Cadash/Rogue this time, but something really bugs me, so i've come here to ask your opinions:is a dwarf rogue\archer feasible? i know it's a fantasy world, but i can't imagine a dwarf being a assassin, slicing necks (do they even reach it? lol) or using a bow. What do you guys think?
Varric and Scout Harding seem to do just fine, and I figure my dual-wielding Cadash went for the kidneys on humans rather than the throat. Humans will still die pretty fast if you keep stabbing them in the parts of the torso a dwarf can reach.
I haven't made a dwarf using a longbow as yet, but I can certainly see it fitting for a surfacer like Cadash. Could never play an Orzammer dwarf with a longbow in DAO, for some reason. Strictly crossbows and daggers only.

I did dwarven archer! My Olim Cadash was a strategy guy--he wasn't really an assassin, more of a smuggler who organized the transfer of Carta goods and then oversaw it from a ranged position where he could issue commands if something went down.

Ah, I love playing a dwarf assassin (they just aim for the knees first, then slits their foes' throats), but a rogue/archer is totally feasible, like the others said. ![]()

Hmm, I suggested people remember that ignore was an option if things got out of hand, not that they should. I use ignore when I am no longer interested in someone's conversation, which I haven't yet done. However, if you think you'll get a rise out of me with the "weak" comment, you're barking up the wrong tree because it just makes me laugh to be honest. I'm not here to please you, I'm here to discuss dwarves with people who respect them and actually RPG.

See, I view playing Trev, particularly warrior or rogue, is the ultimate 2 Real Villain. You're a rich, privileged kid from the dirty South who uses their power to establish a fascist religious institution that makes huge, unquestioned decisions for other counties and races.

Hello, dusters!
@Merela -- Welcome!
Brosca was well and truly bad ass, but I must admit, Tabris was my man, the city elf origin just gave me motivation the others couldn't. I feel dirty for playing a knife ear but that is my confession.

(In case it needs to be pointed out since this thread has taken a weird turn overnight, I am only teasing you. =D)
A question, Dwarf lovers if you will indulge me. Who is your favorite LI to pair with a Dwarf? I was considering a gentleman Dwarf for Dorian, but I am unsure...
Huh. All of them maybe? I like hearing people talking about why they like a particular romance path. Sometimes romances just click. I've done Blackwall and Iron Bull -- both on my dwarves, but each were RPed differently so Blackwall wouldn't have fit with one of them. Does that make sense? My husband bought DAO for me and told me dwarves were playable, which was the only reason why I even glanced at the game. We played as a dwarven couple in WoW and before that a gnome couple in EQ. I can't describe how enjoyable this was. So I scoffed at the idea of a Bioware dwarf being interested in a non-dwarf, but I had never seen romance in a game. I was curious. I decided to check out the Alistair romance for science. He was funnier than I expected so he grew on me. The tent scene was painful to watch, wow. Whatever reservation I had about a dwarf romancing a human completely evaporated when this very subject came up in conversation.
Alistair: "You're the first woman I've ever spent the night with, and if I have my way, you'll be the last."
Aeducan: "My being a dwarf doesn't change anything?"
Alistair: "Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. If anything, I was wondering if I was too tall."
Wow. That was acceptance right there. Not just acceptance, but that he worried that HE was the freak, not the dwarf. (Not that dwarves are freaks, but it is the attitude that prevails on the surface since people tend to fear what they do not understand.)
Anyway, dialogue impacts who I romance. I was on the fence about romancing Sera and Iron Bull when I heard this banter and laughed. Dilemma solved! =D

I'm romancing Cass with my dwarf quisitor. I have just one qualm with that relationship. To really get her approval really high, you have to be the faithful Andrastian, which feels weird for a dwarf. It's not totally out of the question, but it seems odd.
I have romanced Cass as a 100% non believer. It takes a little longer to get her approval up but it can be done.
That is very interesting. I had a similar experience with Blackwall on the Skyhold ramparts in which he talked about being a symbol for the people to follow and my dwarf had the star option (because she rejected the Herald stuff/stuck to the Stone) to emphasize that she "never claimed to be the Herald!" I was wondering if that was going to be a dealbreaker for Blackwall, but it didn't seem to be an issue. He clung to an ideal more than being devout, know what I mean? I didn't get the star option with my second dwarf because she was all, "Why, yes, I am the Herald! Andraste wants ... you to bring me some hot tea."

Haven't played a dwarf archer, but I just wanted to point out that I've been RPing my rogue as a James Bond type (undercover spymaster) and have gone with artificer for all the spy gadgets traps to fling about. I keep a couple of stabs on my bar for boss fights so I can get some big hits in to speed the fight up. I think the other spec uses flasks so that's another angle to look at if ankle stabbing is too silly for you. I agree with Andraste_Reborn -- personally wouldn't play an Orzammar dwarf with a bow, but totally feasible for a surfacer. Varric is an artificer spec so you can talk to him about Three Eyes (the trainer) and Bianca. It's not a terribly deep conversation, but the extra dwarf content is there.

I love dual wielding dwarf rogues. The Carta background is perfect for it, and I love the look of my small nimble guy zooming around the battlefield. As far as archers go, it doesn't matter how big or small they are.

Dwarves can hamstring their target to bring them down to throatcutting height. Poison also works and there's no reason stabbing in the lower torso or leg or back wouldn't work as well. I never had the impression from Zevran that throatcutting was an approach most Crows used, to be honest, they seemed a lot more subtle than that. And dwarves have the advantage of being below many people's normal vision, which gives them a real advantage. I haven't seen throatcutting as a normal assassin's trick in DA, or have I missed something?
