What Gaider said, IIRC, was that he was against including a Qunari romance option solely to provide a qunari romance because that had race-fetishistic tones, but that he was not intrinsically against the possibility of including a character romance in which one or both partners are qunari. Basically the same thing he's said about dwarf romances. He's not against them, but he's firmly against including them just to check them off a list.

I wondered if maybe that wasn't quoted rather out of context.

He didn't mean anything totally bad by it. Just like his dwarf comments back in the day.
He knew there were problems with including Qunari in game, because of their culture. But he was equally troubled by just including Qunari, if they had no culture. He was uncomfortable that only appealed to people who just go for big women/men with horns and just reduced it to fetishism. And I think his concerns are valid. Physicality doesn't foster much for roleplaying. But they did it anyways.

To get this thread back to the dwarf talk and to talk a little about the current romance discussions... Lace Harding.
This was probably posted 100 times already, but she would've been a sweet little romance if it was ever continued. She would've been a perfect fit for my first, dwarven Inquisitor. I ended up not romancing anyone as I still hope it will have some conclusion, some day.

Just to change course and be friendly..
I would pay for Harding to be a romance.
By the stone, I would!
I thought she would be at first. Or dagna.

Just curious, have they actually said in game that Lace is her first name? I've seen people use that, but never seen it in game...

If you've chosen romance options and said you like her in Skyhold, she tells you to call her Lace; apparently, her mother was a seamstress. She also asks you not to tell anyone. ![]()

No, they didn't. Because he was talking about NPCs. The only qunari NPC romance option is Iron Bull, who is not only a fantastically popular character, but also simply would not have worked as any other race. His romance wasn't just checking 'qunari romance' off the list for someone's titillation, but about further exploring his fascinating character in a more intimate space.
You are talking about PC race options, which is a totally separate issue. They included non-human race options because it was one of the most common fan requests since they removed it for DAII. Whether it was integrated well into the story, I cannot say but I cannot condone judging other people for wanting more options. It'd be like slamming everyone in Skyrim who doesn't play a Nord.

Like Lobsel said, only if you always chose the flirt option and then talk to her in Skyhold when the story is about to end she will tell you the name.

It's nothing like Skyrim. You're the avatar of Akatosh/Lorkhan. He's insane.. he's known to be bipolar and trollish over history.. Someone made a goodf comparison to Fight Club/Tyler Durden. The Dragonborn is ripe for that kind of open interpretation and not exactly taking clear sides.
I don't care if you condone things or not. That's not what I'm here for... to get approval. I don't condone things myself. Do I expect you to change? No. It's just an ugly impasse. We'll be at conflict for it. I don't revel in this.. it just sucks.

omg, that's great! I haven't gotten that far with Harding, so I wondered if someone had used it as a joke and everyone decided it was serious or something.

(I realize this is several pages late, but I'm still playing catch-up):
I can't even talk about Cassandra in her fan thread, because people attack me for romancing her as a dwarf. I'm not going to change what's in my signature, but I'm going to stay out of that thread.
Yup, I avoid it too for the same reason, and I know of at least one other dwarf fan (who hasn't posted here yet I think) who also does the same. It's making me consider starting a Cassandra fan group so we have a safe place to discuss her. Not just Cass/Cadash fans, or Cass/whoever fans, but Cass fans in general. Her thread is sadly on the toxic side at times, particularly if you're also a dwarf and/or qunari fan. :\
On another note, I finally got around to exploring the Hissing Wastes (hadn't done it before now) with Dorn's replay... I'm glad I did, especially since I dragged Varric along, haha. I'm really, really intrigued by the idea of a surface thaig. Was there any further information in-game about the war that drove the paragon and his family to the surface? I got the gist his runes were used for destructive weapons, but not sure if I missed on any further details, or if it's intentionally vague still.

Do it! I'd love a safe, friendly place for everyone to discuss Cass, romanced or not. Between the people who can't cope with her aggressiveness (which I adore) and those who are too busy worrying about what other people chose to do in their RPing, it would be nice to have a safe, friendly place.

It isn't RPing. That's kind of the point. You're all hung up on just being subversive players.. rather than RPing.

Seconding this, especially since I will be rolling a Dwarf male Inquisitor for Cassandra and can do without most of the crap that has been going on this thread.

Pretty much the gist of it. His runes were being used in a war between the Dwarves and he wanted no part of it, so he and his clan went into self-exile and lived on the surface and made a pretty decent colony I suppose, ignoring the fact that they had to contend with Dragons. Then Fairel's sons royally cocked things up.
Good name for the thaig though: Kal Repartha -- A place where we may meet in peace

I don't think it's an issue of being subversive. Dragon Age is a fantasy game, and some people have an interest in the fantasy races, as opposed to the human race. Elves, dwarves, qunari - it's an interest for people. I understand that you like the Chantry and the Andrastian human, but some people have interests in the other races living in Thedas, and prefer to roleplay through the perspective of one of these groups.
Talking about why you like a character, and the viewpoint of your protagonist, is pretty natural, particularly when people delve into their experiences when playing. I've addressed why I liked Solas, for example, and how it impacted how I roleplayed as my Lavellan mage. And the moment where my Lavellan spoke the Dalish mantra in the Exalted Plains, and Lace conveyed her sympathies afterwards, would be another example where playing as a particular protagonist shapes how you see a character.

I've already explained why I like Cadash/Cassandra pairing, and it goes beyond human/dwarf. I've even shared my thoughts on why Cassandra is such an amazing character. When I get around to making a human and elf character, she will still be my romance on those characters.

Agreed, I don't want want to bring any of that over here, there's already enough of it. I'm in the process of making that Cass group, and will link it shortly for those interested. Beyond that, let's try to stay on the topic of dwarves. I don't want to derail things.
Back on dwarves, thanks TEWR. I too enjoyed the name and the meaning behind it. Makes me wish we knew some more details though. Considering how spread out the ruins were, I imagine the thaig must've been huge, or at least had the tombs far off from the main base.

Dwarves. Saving the world despite all the haters and naysayers.
In the end, it's a human player that does it. The dwarf is just there because Bioware wanted your money at the last minute.
