Well, I will always support Cadash/Dorian.  That's what I'm doing now.

It does seem like a good combination, hopefully Dorian's quest won't bug out on me this time.

Did you side with mages or templars?

If you side with mages, *do not* talk to Dorian at Haven after "In Hushed Whispers."  Do "In Your Heart Shall Burn" first and then talk to him once you get to Skyhold.  Judge Alexius before talking to Hawke.

If you side with the templars, then you can't talk to him until after you get to Skyhold anyway.

Once at Skyhold, *make sure you talk to him and do his war table request before talking to Hawke*.  Even better, once the war table mission is complete and his "One less Venatori" quest is made available, go and do that before talking to Hawke.  You don't even have to complete the Venatori quest. Just kill the two groups in the Hinterlands, don't worry about the last group in the Exalted Plains.

Also, make sure that you talk to Giselle in Skyhold's garden before talking to Hawke.  Do it right after talking with Dorian for the first time at Skyhold, and before you do his "One less Venatori mission."

Go back to Skyhold after gaining lots of approval from Dorian for killing the two groups of Venatori in the Hinterlands.  Giselle should be waiting in the throne room with the letter from Magister Halward.

Dang, this is making me even more tempted to go back and reroll my Cadash and go for a proper Dwarf-supremancy world state, rather than the Mage one I've had for my previous two playthroughs.

It's a pain, I don't know what it is, but my male Cadash is just not really clicking for me yet? Jon Curry's delivery is perfect, my Cadash looks awesome and he's a badass knife-wielding rogue, but... something seems to be missing?

Hmm, perhaps it's the romance thing that's bugging me. Usually my characters just sort of fall into place, as does who they're going to romance, but I'm having the hardest time trying to figure this guy out? I was thinking of romancing Josie, but I don't know, he doesn't seem like he'd be her type... nor do any of the others?

I might have to save him for Dorian, because I've not yet recruited him in Redcliffe and just about to reach that point, and I have the strangest feeling that these two would actually get along like a house on fire?

Hmm... now I just need to figure out the right party?

I think that if your warden and inquisition share similar origins,( dalish elf and dalish elf or dwarf and dwarf) they'll have a special letter for your inquisitor.

Don't force yourself to play something that isn't to your liking. Things will just not be fun for you, and it'll start to feel like you're forcing it rather than enjoying what you're actually doing.

Don't feel bad, a lot of people have a hard time trying to figure out who their dwarf is going to romance.

What difficult level are you playing on? You'll probably want to have two warriors if you're playing on nightmare mode. Are you can go with team yolo… Iron Bull, Sera, and Dorian.

Cheers for the advice, it's a nightmare bug ain't it?

Yeah I sided with the Mages in my previous two playthroughs, but on my second Lavellan runthrough, I spoke to Hawke immediately before anyone else at Skyhold, so I think that's what bugged it out because I had no problems with Trevelyan getting the quest?

Yeah, I think that's part of the problem at the moment.

The first two playthroughs were as human and elven mages, so there's a lot of content there and unique dialogue, whereas there's very little dwarf-related stuff at all in Inquisition to really sink our teeth into (and the Hissing Wastes, while nice, has no connection to anything... yet?).

At the moment, I'm having trouble trying to figure out why my Dwarf from the Carta really gives that much of a hoot about these humans and their daft problems, so if it's hard for him to get invested in it, it's even harder for me as the player to get invested in him?

At least with Origins, Aeducan and Brosca gave you a taste of who they were beforehand and gave them some motivations to start with, and the Blight was a problem that affected everyone and so naturally, you'd kind of care about it a little? Sure, the Breach is a comparable threat and could lead to the End of the World, but why do I have to decide any of this nonsense, all they really need me to do is just wave my Mark at it?

Yeah, picking the romance kind of gives you some kind of motivation and something to fight for, so it's nice to have, but dwarves are hard to figure out the right people to romance them with, especially given Bioware's tendency to overlook them in the romance department anyway?

As for difficulty level, I'm rolling it on Hard at the moment (for the achievement) and I've managed relatively fine thus far with the standard rogue-mage-warrior party?

Yeah, talking to Dorian at Haven (if siding with mages) and talking with Hawke before doing any of Dorian's content seems to be the source of the issue.

My first playthrough, I sided with the Templars, so I didn't get the chance to talk to Dorian. I lucked out on that one because at that point I had no idea that there was a bug and I definitely would have talked to him at Haven had I sided with mages.  After Skyhold I instinctively held off on talking to Hawke because I figured that it would progress the story which I didn't want to do just yet.  So by chance and Instinct, I avoided any problems.

Then I read about lots of people having issues, so I was extra careful on my second playthrough. I sided with mages this time and made sure not to talk to him at Haven.

I always get Tishina and Gilsa mixed up because of their avatar picture. I usually look at the picture first.  :P

Good time as any to update my avatar anyway. Giving some love to my current playthrough. And as much fun as my original Cadash was, I don't think I'll keep the red hair when I reroll. (I only did it because I was inspired by the redhead female dwarf card at the CC.) ;)

Just FYI it doesn't matter if HoF is Aeducan or Brosca -- the letter is identical for both. I'm really curious what a city elf HoF has to say to the elf Inquisitor because I looked up the HoF letters in the wiki. There's a lot of variables like romances and race. The dalish elf writing to the dalish inquisitor spoke of dalish things. I didn't see anything for a city elf, but that doesn't mean anything -- probably just hasn't been added by someone who definitely knows for sure.

And I wish I could help you. I've had many games where things didn't click and I've had games that I didn't intend to take seriously, but became my favorite all time games. Sometimes it's dumb luck.

Yeah, I ran through with a female Lavellan simply to try out the Solas romance and ended up enjoying it far more than my Treveylan playthrough, to the point where I'm starting to think that she'll be the one I import over to DA4 as my canon Inquisitor.

Maybe I'll try again with a female dwarf instead, I had the same problem in Origins tbh, where I was never able to get into a male Brosca or Aeducan that much, yet had a blast playing as female Brosca and Aeducan?

My first play-through was a dwarf, and I have yet to play a elf or human. So I really don't know about those unique dialogue.

Well Cadash is a surfacer, so it isn't just human problems, but his problems also. I would understand if Cadash was an Orzammar dwarf. He wouldn't have any reason to help surfacers. Some of the things is going to have to be part of your own role playing to fill up some of the gaps in order for you to fit a reason for your Cadash to be doing the things to save Thedas.

I don't think it's overlooking. Cadash is perfectly fine with Cassandra. She accept him, which is something he always wanted in life. He feels now that he can be something  better than just a carta thug. He doesn't always make the right choices, but tries to make the ones that would make Cassandra proud of him( before getting connected with Lady Pentaghast, he really just made choices that would save his ass from a lot of heat.)  After becoming the inquisitor, he's more of a leader than before. He thinks of the best outcome for the people, and usually Cassandra would approve or disapprove, but he tends to explain the reason to her in private.

Cadash thug life is far in his past. He's now the inquisitor with a whole new mind set.

One of the more memorable Brosca game I had was that I wanted to play a warrior instead of a smooth-talking rogue. I decided that was Leske's job and my warrior was going to be the muscle that lacked in social skills. I didn't put any points in persuade for her. As a result of failing 95% of persuades in the game, she had to strong-arm people in getting things done (sometimes I got surprise dialogue with companions intervening on my behalf to move the quest along). This approach really made me look at situations differently. For example, the "Nature of the Beast" quest chain. Zathrian agreed to fulfill the treaty if Brosca brought the heart back. So Brosca set out to get this done. The entire time, the werewolves were not responding to any persuade attempts and were difficult to negotiate with. Furthermore they never even offered to be an army or help out with the treaty either. There actually wasn't any reason to "make peace" or side with the werewolves either. Brosca ended up doing what Zathrian asked. Deal was a deal. And I liked how that played out actually. It was the only game where Zathrian showed up at Redcliffe in the end before the archdemon fight so I got to have extra dialogue that I wouldn't have had otherwise. The only downside to the no-persuade approach was that Ruck didn't trust Brosca and attacked her, meaning she couldn't get the Legion of the Dead shield off him.

Oh, I wanted to share this with the thread. There's a throne room in the Valammar. Pretty sure this is what the dwarven throne would look like if we had been given one for the Inquisitor. Second picture has a close-up of the design. I'm not sure if it's a plant under the sun or if that's wisps of lyrium rising up.

I think the sky opening up and demons pouring out is everyone's concern, not just humans' and elves'. Since the giant tear is also getting bigger and threatening to engulf the whole sky, and each time it expands it causes the mark on your hand to expand and slowly kill you, I think it's also in your best interest to stop it.

As Varric from the Bad Future points out, "Once, only dwarves feared the sky. Now? It's just common sense."

I also played as a dwarf who started off not really caring, but went along with it at first just to stop the immediate danger ("stop the rifts from expanding so the mark will stop killing me"), but through the magic of Character Development she also saw it as an opportunity to get away from the life of crime she never really wanted but couldn't leave (being manipulated/blackmailed into it by her ruthless crime family), and eventually did it for the friends she grudgingly made in the Inquisition.

This was how I was planning on approaching it and the character development of Cadash, since I figured they'd be relatively on the fence about the Mage-Templar war (since they're selling lyrium to both sides), but would grow to become more of a hero over the course of the game.

Yeah, I'll probably stick with this guy and see how he fares, I'm only 20 something hours in and it's a long game.

Talking about the attack on Haven and journey to Skyhold, that usually tends to be the moment when the Inquisitor starts taking those levels in badass that make them such a great protagonist. I bet once I see him start that avalanche, I'll be sold on this guy.

I'm not sure a CE is going to get a unique letter to anyone; they seem to be the ones on the outside this time. Unfortunately, none of the WSs I'm using is a CE yet, but there's a CE/Leliana romance coming up down the line.

I like his eyes! He's attractive, there's just something in his proportions that isn't quite there...

Anyone who gets exactly what they want in an IQ of any race on the first try would be impressive in my book.

Yeah...his ears bother me. At first everything looked fine and then when I started to fiddle around with the head shape, the one shape I wanted somehow morphed with he previous head shape.

The more I look at him the more I see Sandal! True, I just hope that I can get better at making IQs for every race. I tried to make a female dwarf and she...she did not make it past the screenshot phase.

My impression is the same as yours, the ears are out of place, they appear a touch low and the base of the ears a tad wide on the face, the rest looks solid.

I'm Lv. 14, so I suppose I'll try that one next.

The Fereldan Frostback may be the lowest level, but it doesn't fight like other Dragons, so it generally isn't the easiest Dragon. Make sure you take some ranged.

He is a very literate and gentlemanly dwarf in every day life and a total barbarian on the battlefield.

So I gave him very neatly treamed beard and hair, you could say he is even a little bit vain when it comes to his grooming. And in contrast I try to gave him a very broken nose and deep facials scars to show his wilder side.
