Dwarf fans, would you share your best dwarf picture here? I want to make something, so please try to include your character face.
Pick whichever character suits your purpose more. I truly don't care since they're both the same to me. ![]()

Could someone spare some advice?
I'm trying to decide if I should make my Cadash an archer or a sword+shield warrior?
Originally, I thought I wanted to make my dwarf an archer for two reasons:
1) Subvert stereotypes, which seems moot now since the other two dwarves in the game are also archers.
2) Last playthrough I brought Varric and Sera around a lot, so I thought being an archer this time would keep me from being tempted to bring them along. However, I also had to bring Cassandra and Blackwall a lot as tanks, and would kind of like to enjoy a playthrough with other companions. Replacing the archers with Cole or an extra mage would work, but replacing the tank companions would work best with myself, since Cole is fragile, the mages are squishy, and Bull can't go two steps without losing half his hitpoints.
I'm playing my Cadash as a reluctant thug who hated Carta life, but got manipulated/blackmailed into it by her crimelord family (I imagine her father was like Beraht and her aunt like Jarvia), and so learned to tolerate it by hanging back in the shadows during meetings and shakedowns, and shooting people from a distance if she absolutely had to. It's harder to picture her putting up with the life if she has to be a thug standing in the middle of the action, having to listen to or engage in the talk, or to be the one to shake people down with her muscle.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There's a dialogue option in which Cadash just sold fancy goods to dwarven houses so the thug life can be easily side-stepped if you wish to go that route. You can also refuse to specify your role in the Carta so your head canon will absolutely work with how you envision the inquisitor. (Edit: I only point this out "just in case." Prior the the game's release, some people pouted thinking they were forced into being a bad guy when there's actually flexibility on level of involvement. I'm only saying, that's all.)
As for picking the class, that's up to ya. Subvert stereotypes is a good one. The Cadash House was also a warrior caste and Shale from DAO was a warrior so there's a nice connection/RP angle if you want to continue in that tradition. A dwarven templar would certainly be an interesting twist, just like a dwarf archer.
Two other considerations to ponder: 1) what class is the potential love interest? and 2) do you want to wear the race-specific Legion of the Dead armor and if so, would it feel weird to wear it on a rogue once restrictions were removed?
I played a warrior and romanced Blackwall so that was two warriors already. It was very hard to rotate in Cassandra or Iron Bull (I wanted to hear what they had to say with Blackwall) because with three warriors, there was always a door that needed to be picked or a barrier blocking a tunnel and I constantly had to turn around and swap one of the warriors out. It was a hassle.

To be honest, I envisioned her hating the Cadash family business specifically because I want to play an "Ass-quisitor" (at least, as assy as I can manage). Someone who's brusque and no-nonsense because she's used to hating everything she does and just wants to get this over with. Since I can't make a character who's jerky for jerky's sake, I wanted to give her a decent reason: she hated her life before now, resigned herself to it, then felt bitter and resentful for it (like that Templar in DAO's Broken Circle quest who went through life angry, bitter and resentful of his vows). I'm also a bleeding heart that has to stop to help every NPC the PC passes by (which ends up taking forever), so I want to play a character who's task-oriented and unsympathetic so she can say no to them the way a nice character can't. "Nope, not my problem. I have real work to do," and passes them by.
1) The love interest, I'm thinking Iron Bull. Another reason I want my character to be as I envisioned. She's serious and brusque, he's relaxed and easy-going. I can already imagine an "opposites attract" situation.
I figure if she's an archer, she can be the team's lock-picker, The Iron Bull can be the team's door-basher, then the other two spots can be filled with two mages or a mage and Cole. However, if she's the team tank, then The Iron Bull can be the team damage-dealer, and they can have Cole and a mage. Firmly balanced party either way.
2) Legion of the Dead armor? Huh, that might be a balance-tipper. Is it restricted to warriors?
EDIT: Thank you for taking the time to answer! ![]()

1) IB definitely works with that approach.
2) It is restricted to warriors, but if you craft it with silverite, the warrior restriction is removed and dwarf rogues can wear it as well. That's why I asked if it would feel weird to wear heavy plate on a bow & arrow dwarf. Here's a pic of a dwarf female wearing it: https://www.tumblr.c...dwarven-templar

That is a good tie-breaker, thank you.
I'll try out the S&S warrior. This might work.
EDIT: Heh, I just looked up the Legion of the Dead armor online. Apparently *tons* of people are complaining that it's the best armor in the game, but it's only available to dwarves. And I'm thinking, "That's called incentive, honey. The devs are offering something fantastic to dwarves that you can't wear as any other race in the game to incentivize you to try it." All right, I'm hooked. Just learning I can get something awesome as a dwarf that I can't get as any other race makes me want to take advantage of this golden opportunity. Scores of people want it but don't want to play a dwarf? Hey, I was gonna play a dwarf anyway, but now I'll play a dwarf with Legion of the Dead Armor because I can. =D

Hrm, I don't think you can go wrong either way wrt to archer vs S&S with what you've said so far. Have you given any thoughts to what specialty you might think fits her best, RP wise? Maybe that will help you decide?
Otherwise, eh, flip a coin or pick the one you've used less.

Oh, thank you for the suggestion, but it could also go either way.
If an archer, I was thinking "Tempest" since she could stuff chaos into a bottle and chuck it.
If a warrior, she could become a "Champion," symbolizing her character growth from a common thug who hates everyone to a defender of the land, if still a bit stoic.

Funny thing is that it isn't the best armour in game. As a single piece sure, but each of the superior T3 coat, mail and armour offer the same armour value but have less slots when not counting the gloves and boots you can add to them. I personally would rather the greater magic def I can get from the T3 coat set over the melee def the legion armour can give.

Okay, maybe not the best, but you would think it was by the way people whine about it on various websites.
I was just surprised and amused by just how many people were so butthurt to have such great armor denied them and only allowed to... ugh... dwarves. And I'm like, "Serves you right for not giving dwarves a chance.

I hear ya. I don't even acknowledge those complaints because so what? That armor was in the original game, could only be obtained in Orzammar (or Gorim in Denerim), and was designed for dwarves in the first place. Even though it's labelled "Legion of the Dead," the model is actually based on the Dwarven Massive Armor design.
I noticed there was plenty of human-only armor designs floating around in DAI so I'm unsympathetic to the complaints. I'm glad that this is race-restricted. We also get dwarf-only Carta armor (medium), but I haven't seen anybody in this thread be thrilled with the design. They don't complain either.
Original design in DAO:

I'm really surprised how much I'm enjoying my Cadash playthrough so far; usually it's not my favorite. It's probably because I'm playing her a clever little ****. I can't believe we still don't have a dwarven romance option, though. How can they give us Varric, Dagna, and Scout Harding and NONE of them are full love interests? Ugh.
I recruited the templars yesterday, and some noble said she didn't expect the Herald of Andraste to be so "earthy." And Marni was just like, "You mean dwarven." Stupid humans, man.

Elves get fancy armor and you don't see me complaining!!! Because I do it privately, in my own head since it's silly and makes sense I can't have them but , damn I want those Keeper robes for my dwarf.

What's most Dwarven; Mace or Axe?!
#4171
Posté 14 janvier 2015 - 12:22
To be honest I would go with mace, though axes are fairly prolific most Dwarf lore in all fantasy settings has them wearing usually extremely heavy plate style armour. It would make sense for a culture to wield a weapon most effective against it's own style of defence. Which maces are far more effective against heavy plate than axes.

So I decided to restart Skraal as Champion didn't really add anything to my playstyle and instead just made him a no risk whirl-winding death machine. I had previously forayed into a rogue but couldn't decide on a specialisation for him so I canned that version. After playing around with Sera/Varric/Cole I am enjoying assassin so I'll be taking the new Skraal down that path. While rebuilding him I was wondering if changes should be made, mainly with his hair. I like the hair at times but it is a mullet after all. So I was contemplating this new look. This is actually the look I sport myself so I am fairly partial to it.
Spoiler
Any thoughts? For comparison here he is with his old hair.
Spoiler
And if anyone is curious what he looks like without the beard. Here you go.
Spoiler
Edit: Was organising photobucket folders and made images vanish. Go me!
Wow these all look good. Hmm, I think he looks the most boss and manly in the first one, but he looks "prettier" the way he is... so.... whichever one really, depending on what you prefer. The beard stands out more too with the shaved one.

As I'll still have my warrior, just getting tired of being unkillable. I fight a dragon and my party dies I just shrug and keep on truckin. It doesn't exactly promote strategic gameplay. So this way it would be an easy tell between rogue and warrior. No hair and hair.

Plus as a race known for being highly skilled and prolific builders, a mace can double as a decent hammer in lieu of any available tools, while an axe is only useful at opening beer casks (which is another dwarven stereotype, but I digress).
