Last time I threw out a crazy theory concerning the Dwarves I was proven right.

Hell, last time I threw out any sort of well thought out speculative in-depth venture I was proven right.

Just saying.... I haz a track record :P

I'm curious… what was your crazy theory? And have you ever played Baldur's Gate?

I second Cespar's query. Your theory Tewr was probably before my time here.

Yeah, it's a bummer, because it feels like a prelude to something, but it ends with her going "You're serious? Let's get a drink sometime."

Honestly I prefer romances that are more integrated into the storyline/are content heavy, so even if you had a drinking scene, I probably would't do it....in the same way that I just freaking adore Samara and she'd be ideal, but the Citadel DLC moment isn't as satisfying to me as a full romance....BUT yeah, I totally get why people are upset. :(

Yeah, 'cause they've never given us a dwarven romance option before, so the Harding pseudo-romance just feels mean when it doesn't go anywhere. If it just didn't go beyond flirting at all or she didn't want more than that, okay, cool. But she DOES. It ends on a cliffhanger right as things are getting a little serious and a lot adorable. Ugh! Sorry. I get too worked up over this.

Cespar and Zetrial: The PT being connected to the Blight and Darkspawn. I sort of tackled it a few pages ago but most of that was from memory and even then I know I've forgotten many details I had associated with it. Back a couple of years ago people thought it a silly notion that couldn't be the case because it didn't make sense.

They called me mad!! Well I'm not mad! :P

(no one actually called me mad)

There was also the case of Wynne's death in Asunder (which I called before the book was released) and also the idea of how Inquisition could have all four race options with full voice acting where we come from certain elements of society (as I recall my Qunari idea and Dwarf idea was spot on, though Bioware didn't follow through with it as well as they could have). Perhaps Bioware looked at that and said "That's a good idea!".

I'd like to think so anyway. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, that it does.

As for Baldur's Gate, no I have not played it.

Well something not making sense doesn't make it illogical. We knew and still know little regarding the PT and I wouldn't have dismissed it having links to the Darkspawn were I here when you first mentioned it. But it is unlikely the people inhabiting it were as big as the deep roads, given their doors would struggle to suit an Ogre. Perhaps larger than modern Dwarves but not to the levels that has been theorised.
The deep roads would of been made with significant traffic in mind, so wide enough for numerous of it's inhabitants and if they had any mode of transportation, it as well. Doorways and furniture would give us a more accurate guess as to size. And I cannot remember seeing any beds so I'll go by the doorways for now, and they could suit up to Qunari sized people, not much larger. Or Dwarves could just have a style of overly large doors.

But I'm sure we'd all agree that we would love to see more Thaigs and deep road delving.

Actually... now that I think on it... the Titans are probably more in line with the statues covering the PT.

Think about it. Modern Dwarves liken the Paragons to gods. What if the Titans were Dwarven gods? What if the Paragon statue making idea was first done as a result of Titan statue making?

I have a theory, and it's probably wrong, that they made it a pseudo-romance because they wanted to test how many people would actually flirt with her / want to romance her before investing the time and resources into a full dwarf romance. We're all required to have Origin and internet access for this game, right? So all the choices we make get recorded and sent to the mother-database where they can see how many people made what decisions. "This percentage of players played female compared to male." "This percentage of players played these races." "This percentage of players sided with mages over Templars." Maybe it's the same with romantic content?

We know dwarves are awesome, but most people are still stuck on Hollywood standards of beauty - tall, long-limbed, muscled without being too stocky if male, slim if female, blah blah blah. Anything outside that gets labeled "weird fetish." Bleh. Since each romance costs time and money that could have gone into something else, so they have to carefully consider which character is worth investing the extra romance content on.There are enough people sneering, "Oh, people who want to romance dwarves just have a weird fetish" that BioWare might feel that not enough people would be interested in a dwarf even if they made one romantically available. (Doesn't help that they themselves seem to dismiss requests for a dwarf romance as "fetish.")

Maybe they didn't feel confident pouring that many resources into a seemingly minor character (I mean, we have nine companions and three advisers already), so they added pseudo-romance flirt options just to see how people would respond? Even if they didn't, they got their answer right quick. Harding is deeply beloved, and they would do well to extend that pseudo-romance into a full romance.

That's all.

So very true, it makes you wonder what the game would have been like without the Iron Bull romance?

Because let's be honest, when you give us a giant, horned, grey-skinned, one-eyed dude who's bisexual and his entire romance consists of BDSM scenes, then it really makes you question how can anyone can still judge those of us who beg the devs for a dwarven romance as just having a "weird fetish", when Riding the Bull was an entire romance built on Fetish Fuel and people loved it!

See here for it. Granted, it was 3 years ago and I tended to simply repost an idea rather then build off of it (which I like to think I'd be better at doing now), so if you read it while it might sound good as a writing idea as a roleplaying idea it might not have had much room to grow (also I like being part of House Cadash more then just "exile who pissed off swapped out king" more).

With the years since, I have had a lot of time to think on the Dwarven lifestyle and flesh out the conflict a bit more and how the Dwarves factor into it. I did so, actually, just a touch way back in the thread when veeia and I tackled how being a Dwarfquisitor could've been better.

And at the time, I hadn't read Asunder (I don't even think Asunder was announced at that point). Still, all things considered I wasn't too far off the mark.

Ah but my friend!

Spoiler

I will have to check it out then. My gaming list grows ever larger.

And you should follow me on there if you have tumblr! Or probe me for DA questions, whether for my thoughts and theories or my headcanons! Be not afraid!

EDIT: also my last comment in the linked thread makes me sad, recent events considered.

If you're a Dwarfquisitor and pick the snarky reply while talking to OGB Kieran, he mentions them offhand. Really offhand.

Cole mentions it too, I think - either in banter or when you go to speak to him randomly in the tavern. I can't remember.

Yea your idea was good, but the only part was that I'm glad we aren't a exile again. Your idea was almost a little similar to the warden from origins. Even if we're from House Cadash, there isn't any banter or remarks on it. Not even when we're doing the war table missions with the Kal-Sharok, which is why I hope there would be a background DLC.

You should put that all on your tumblr so I can read it. I enjoy a good history lesson about the dwarves, and I feel I probably need a touch up on Kal-Sharok and the dwarves living in Tevinter, since that might be the next place we're heading too, but I don't know if you have got that far in your studies.

Yea we're kind of all mad.

If you do play Baldur's Gate, go dwarf or gnome!!!

I think it might be in the tavern, or that might just be hearing the stone inside your character. Which proves that the stone is alive.

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that I agree that dwarves are awesome! :D If only the gameplay wouldn't be that horrible for melee characters, I would soooo continue my dagger dwarf playthrough :( Think I'll reroll for an archer in the meantime

Very possible, the Titans could of very well been living stone with statues made to honour them. That would make Golems a sort of ascending to near god like form originally too.

At this point we can only guess what the Titans were, all we can assume is that they existed before the Old Gods were imprisoned and something about them made us appear larger. What larger means here can also be speculated.

Damn you Bioware and your vague off remarks about the greatest people populating Thedas, why did you have to cater to the Elves and let them know more of their history... bah.

And welcome to our new brothers and sisters.

It does make me wonder if all those giant statues with hammers aren't meant to glorify the power of the Dwarven Empire or the Paragons, but instead were orginally sculpted to honour the Titans? And instead of being made massive, were in fact made lifesize.
