That's the thing though, it is the norm as any Dwarf that goes where the player will go has to be disgraced. Someone like Harding isn't the norm as she appears to have nothing to do with Orzammar or the Carta. Just a farm hand that managed greatness.

I mentioned that same thing pages ago. We won't be able to play a traditional dwarf, unless Hissing Waste proves that there are other surface dwarves that lives topside worshipping the stone and has the Caste system. Or we just play as a Tevinter dwarf. But we've only had four dwarves with each of the background. Merchant dwarf-Varric, Casteless dwarf-Sigrun, Disgrace dwarf-Oghern, and Carta-Cadash.

I think they could have fit an Orzammar Dwarf companion into inquisition easily enough. With orzammars economy almost entirely reliant on selling Lyrium to the chantry it wouldn't be too hard to believe Orzammar would send some representatives, a companion could have been one of these representatives or a second to one of them.

I was thinkin about this a few days ago and I wish that they had of made this the case so that a dwarven warrior was a noble/warrior caste, and a rogue was a carta member.

Personally I prefers playing as a noble in origins than as a castless brosca/Cadash.

I'm actually glad that the dwarf was part of the Carta. He had to live up to something that was much bigger than him, which made for some good role playing. Especially since the background said that the dwarves and human society didn't accept him or something close to that.
Rags to Riches I guess.

Hmm, there are lots of dwarves on the surface who are legitimate blacksmiths and merchants. There's no reason one of their kids couldn't learn weapons too. Doesn't always have to be Carta; if it was the predominant, they'd be on a rampage against surface dwarves.

Please tell me that Nogna is the blond mullet one!!!?

Aww, no, but she's part of my "most fun to play" playthrough. (That DAO game = zero points in persuade, auto-fail everything.)

Here's the reason why I don't refer to my dwarves by name: too many. ;)

Aw, thanks. I'm still playing Thova as time allows so I'll try to toss up a few more screenshots along the way. I've been planning on rerolling Nogna anyway since the first game was one big stumbling mess with no clear idea on how to RP and what the choices even mean and what stuff I completely missed.

I am getting extremely irritated that I still can't get the carta schematic to drop. It's not like amazing armor or anything, but it's dwarf exclusive and I'd like to be able to HAVE IT. I did "farm" a chest, but nothing after two hours. It's just stupid.

More or less. There are, according to Varric, tens of thousands of Dwarves living on the surface and managing an existence that's fine by them. Many of them still live by the kalna (for example, Bartrand) but there are many who are just regular citizens like Harding. A Dwarf could be a blacksmith, a guard, a merchant, an artisan, etc.

Of course there'd still be stereotypes people would give off, like the farmer in Lothering who if you tell him not all Dwarves are merchants he just goes "Yeah right... sure thing" and rolls his eyes. People would still go like

"I thought your kind were nothing more then merchants, blood-crazed warriors, or blacksmiths. Also thought your kind were stubborn as a mountain and twice as thick"

Even so, adds to the fun.

I really like the Carta dwarf angle, and not just because I like my protagonists to be kind of shady. We've never had the option of playing as a surfacer before. It's interesting the way humans react to you. Whenever my Cadash mentioned that she believes in the Maker, for example, they're always surprised. Even though you grew up in human society--albeit perhaps not human culture, though--you're still treated like someone from a foreign land. I think it's a fascinating perspective. I mean, surface dwarves tend to stick close to each other; they have the Merchant Guild and the Carta, which to me seems as much about coping with their lack of acceptance from humans and even fellow dwarves as it is about profit.

you know what would be a great way into intergrate kal shirok into the story...by having a dwarf from there as a companion

I think that would be quite interesting. Kal-Sharok has already set up an interesting premise with it's enigmatic society, it's survival despite being cut off by Orzammar, and WoT's reference to someone sensing something similar to the Grey Wardens when encountering an envoy of Kal-Sharok. "I lived through a time of Blights. I've felt the gaze of a Grey Warden and seen the corruption of his prey. Why I remembered both in that moment, I still can't explain."

A dwarven companion who can explain much more about their Paragons, the Rock-Knockers (their equivalent to the Legion of the Dead), and how their caste system works (since it's supposed to be much different than it is in Orzammar). As someone who helped Renvil Harrowmont escape, I'd also like to know what happened when he finally reached one of the last remaining Great Thaigs in existence.

Yes! I want a Kal-Sharok dwarf as a companion in DA4. They are so mysterious and are all probably tainted the way the Wardens are.

Their badass level would be through the roof.

Tough choice...which one do you think, you would have more fun with? With Farin, he's a TH and I'm in love.... plus TH with Reaver is heaven :D I'm facing the same dilemma, once I've finished the game with Farin; do I remake Iggie, which my save got corrupted back in November (My female Archer) or have another Warrior....maybe DW rouge instead?

See this is my problem too! I'm gonna remake Terra, I know that much....

I began a female TH warrior.............it was ok.......but I kept thinking can a chick really swing a great weapon like that? It's bigger than me!

Plus, if I go archer....I'll be one of 4........Varric, Sera..........I'll probbaly respec Cole, since his melee AI sucks..............

I have Xavier as my rogue, Ardris is my SnS, so I want to be unique.........
