I love her! Hopefully after my Iggie PT, I can make a good looking oldish dwarf
I won't say how many builds I went through before I worked out what I needed to do to age them while keeping a good sense of what they looked like 20 years earlier. ![]()

Thank you! I think she'll make a very bada** grandma rogue ![]()
I enjoy the range of ages too.
Guuuuuuyyyyyyssssss!
After months of making and scrapping, making and scrapping, I've finally, finally made my canon Inquisitor! The one who finally "feels" right.
Meet Shae! (A dual-wielding rogue)! ![]()
(So ridiculously in love with her omg)
Yay!! Keep us posted!
I rerolled my canon dwarf and have been spending time scouting out dwarf stuff and banters than actually playing the game. I circle and circle and circle areas to get different NPCs to spawn and start talking. The dwarf spy in the bar has been my favorite so far:
Dwarf/human Inquisition scouts in Haven bar
Overheard #1:
Human: "Must be strange seeing one of your people held up as the Herald of Andraste."
Dwarf: "Somewhat. She was born a surfacer, though. Closer to your kin than mine."
Human: "I doubt most humans would see it that way."
Overheard #2:
Dwarf: "I knew the surface dwarves had lost the Stone. Didn't expect them to start following the Chant of Light, though."
Human: "You're disappointed?"
Dwarf: "No. Maybe I would've been, if I were still down in Orzammar, but now?"
Dwarf: "It's already harder for me to hear the Stone. Any dwarf born on the surface never has a chance."
Dwarf: "If they find some happiness with your Maker, where's the harm?"
Dwarf: "And if the Herald of Andraste is a dwarf, well, at least she's reminding the lot of you that the rest of us exist."
Overheard #3:
Human: "And you've seen no signs of the Grey Wardens anywhere?"
Dwarf: "No."
Human: "You're certain?"
Dwarf: "Wait, by the Stone, Grey Wardens, you said?"
Dwarf: "No."
Human: "We're not paying you to be sarcastic."
Overheard #4:
Human: "There's a rumor the Wardens have a presence over on the Storm Coast."
Human: "Do you think you can find a reason to travel that way?"
Dwarf: "I can sell lyrium just about anywhere. I'll let you know what I find on the Storm Coast."
And that's it so far. Will check back for that pairing once I can get to Storm Coast and see if that conversation chain keeps going or not.
There was also a dwarf and a human talking outside the Chantry in Haven, and they talk about Cadash... I can't remember exactly what was said, but it was something along the lines of the human finding a dwarf being the Herald strange, and the dwarf says (paraphrasing) "And yet there's my carta sister, walking around with all you lot bowing to her."

Oh yea! I heard the 2-4 on this playthrough! I was so happy, but this go around, the dwarves at the Winter Palace wasn't talking about Orzammar

Thank you!! :3 Remember... pray to the ancestors for DLC!
The dwarves in the Winter Palace talk about Paragon Brosca though ![]()
@Lady -- I know the one you mean. That's an easy spot to eavesdrop on. The bar is the worst because of all the overlap from the sisters repeating the Chants of Light and that bard singing her songs and Flissa talking to her customers. I really had to work to listen to the spies there. The walk toggle came in handy so I wouldn't get too close to the other patrons and accidentally trigger their banters.
@Cespar -- At all? I think they have two sets of banters that's tied in with how far you've progressed with WE&WH. I forget what the turning point is -- maybe the dance with Florianne? (First set talks about paragon/current king and the second should be about the lyrium trade.) Edit: I got screwed out of that card game with Varric. I didn't have him in my party much and I tried to raise my approval with him the best I could, but didn't get it in time. Eh, well.
Oooo, I want to go to your 21st!! I have five more months until I'm 21! I think that's just a DLC that people want, but I don't know where they're getting the idea from. My warden Brosca was looking for a cure in inquisition.
I'm 22 myself (birthday's in June).
As for the Calling idea, it's because Solas 1) goes to the west, 2)The Warden is in the west, and 3) the Well of Sorrows, if you drink from it, supposedly says "Calling.... go to him"
no clue if the 'go to him' part changes if you rolled a female Warden, so it's possible people are just assuming the Warden is male in all playthroughs.
So, Marni Cadash made a very tough decision in the Fade. Now she hates the Fade even more.

I mean, Three-Eyes standing there kind of ruined the moment, but still.

I'm a horrible person.
Cursed be Three-Eyes for his photobombing indeed!
And you're not a horrible person. Unless you let Hawke in the Fade jut so you could hug Varric. In that case, yes you are! ![]()

There would be a list of things I'd regret for leaving Hawke in the fade..
... being able to snuggle Varric in his time of grief is not one of them.

So I was looking for a book series to read (huge fantasy nerd, bet you couldn't tell) and I began to wonder if there were any books with dwarven protagonists, rather than the dwarf characters being comic-relief side kicks.
Lo and behold, I found "The Dwarves" by Markus Heitz, and I was so excited I bought it on a whim.
Has anybody read it?
Hey folks, just posted a little thingy on my blog (click the here in my signature to get to the ask, then just go to the main page of my blog) about my DN. I'll put it here for you guys to read if you want.

I have!
It's a decent book, I think. I don't think it's the greatest thing out there in terms of overall plot, but the Dwarves more then make up for it by virtue of being Dwarves.
My tale of how I came across it is the same as yours. I was down in Barnes and Noble in Milwaukee's mall one day with a friend and I saw it and my love of Dwarves went into overdrive and I bought it.

I've read it. Or, more correctly, I started reading the series back in 2010 (prior to starting my PhD) and am currently halfway through the third book (five years later). Unfortunately, my 'fun reading time' is mostly occupied by research articles these days. However, I always take the dwarf book that I'm currently reading with me on flights. Got a solid 200 pages read on my flight from the US to Denmark this summer. Haven't picked it up since, though.
Overall, it's pretty good. Like TEWR, I don't think it's great, but it's solid. The lead character is really interesting as he's been raised in a human settlement, so he's a relative stranger to dwarf culture at the start of the series. The secondary characters are a little weak for me. I love the female lead, a badass lady dwarf warrior/smith, but many of the others are just not interesting. They spend a fair amount of time dealing with non-dwarf themes and I find myself nodding off during those (specifically, the mage plots). But when they are focused on dwarf culture and dwarf characters, it's much more interesting. In general, I recommend it.
Hey, dusters. I don't know if you've heard of the flower crown (some parts of the forums/tumblr are buzzing about it) called Ardent Blossom. It's in the game, nobody's gotten it to drop, but they use cheat engine to obtain it. I dismissed it as one of those tree-hugging elves twirling in the meadow singing "The Hills Are Alive" kind of thing. That was until I read the description. A dwarf made it.
"So I said to the fellow, 'You want a what?' And it turns out I heard him right the first time. A helmet of flowers, he said, with a vein of lyrium running through it to keep them flowers alive. I thought for sure this had to be some elven thing, something for frolicking in the woods, but no. It's for a duel, he said. Bloody Orlesians. Dwarven pride demanded I make the damned thing effective, at least."

I'm impressed! Now I kind of want the damn thing myself. They really ought to let us have a chest in the game for this reason.

Well if you haven't already read them you could give a shot at Terry Pratchett Discworld novels, his take on dwarves and dwarveb culture his very funny and very well thought out (like all his books). It's not dwarf centric but there are a lot of them (especially in Guards!Guards, Men at arms, the fifth elephant and Thud)
Oh, Baldur's Gate! I have been planning to replay that game for months now, but each time I think of all the mods I need to install before being even able to play, and my courage fails me.
But I would like to play a dwarf at least once, even if it would mind no canon romances if I ever export the save in BG2. I mean even the gnomes have one, but the dwarves? Nope.
Unless things have changed with the EE.
