I recall that dialogue as well! Though I think I got it on my first run where I had everyone of them unite and put aside their differences for the time being. The basic premise was the same though, minus the learning Elvish bit I think, with the Dwarf having such disdain for the human and saying the exact same line.

I dunno. Sometimes it's hard to hear the ambient dialogue over everything else.

Oh, I didn't realize! Maybe it's an outcome you get just as long as Briala isn't executed or banished?

Either way, it's hilarious. In fact, the more I play, the more I notice random background conversations between humans and dwarves involves humans saying something ignorant or stupid, with the much more intelligent and snarky dwarves poke holes in their logic.

H: "What do dwarves do to deal with mages?"

D: "Same as everyone else. Call the Templars."

H: "But what about dwarves down in Orzammar?"

D: "Friend, I've never even seen Orzammar. And dwarves don't even have mages, so I don't think that's an issue."

@TEWR -- That's gotta be rough, only being able to be with one son like that. One has to stay in Orzammar and Morrigan is not gonna part with the other.

First, I hate your guts for making me read all of that!  :P

Second, Xanthos sounds like he really doesn't get emotional connected to the ladies he bond with, and they don't seem to have a problem with it at all. I know marriage is more of a political thing than love, but surely Leliana wouldn't just stick around for all of that. He even goes with Morrigan through the Mirror, so I guess he really doesn't care about love or attachments.

I noticed that you kept all the others "origins" wardens alive, and also with their own part. How does that work?

Ha! Imagine how I felt for having to type it all out! :P

You'd be surprised. He actually does. He is a bit of a lech, willing to have sex with as many women as possible (Gheyna, Isabela, and I even headcanon Mithra and Lanaya) but he does get attached to them. He's polyamorous. I imagine part of the reason why he sleeps with so many people is the fear of Dwarven extinction, but I'm not sure. He could just be a horny bastard, for all I know.

He never coerces though. He always makes it a point to ensure that people are given autonomy over themselves.

And to me, Leliana's polyamorous as well. She makes it a point to say to you that she doesn't care what you do with Morrigan, it's the fact that you lied to her that rankles her (if you avoided the initial confrontation).

I don't really see her as being the monogamous type.

So Xanthos does care for the women he's in a committed relationship with. Even those he has just a simple fling with he cares for, though he understands that for some of those people it might just always be a fling. If they wish to pursue something more, they're free to, but they have to understand that his heart is capable of loving many people... not just one.

As it happens, he is emotionally connected with Morrigan, Leliana, Nerav, and Mardy. Nerav just happens to be his wife, and Mardy's his concubine.

They all understand that he leads a very trying life and that fate has a weird story in store for him. He doesn't like leaving them, but he feels he has a higher duty to uphold.

As to your second question, about the origins, the answer is this: Like a pain in the ass lol.

Jokes aside, what do you mean how does it work? Do you mean how did Xanthos come to meet with them and lead them?

Exactly. That's part of why he wants to find a cure to the Calling. He wants to be together with everyone, in Orzammar. He's trying very hard to find a balance between it all. He knows what he's doing is right and doesn't second-guess his decisions, at least post Ostagar, but he still doesn't like it.

If that makes sense? :P

EDIT: Thankfully Nerav, Mardy, Trian, Gorim, Darius while he's in Orzammar, (and another Dwarf named Caellach, who was part of my first attempt at a DAO fanfic) will raise little Trian well alongside the few other children Xanthos had while he's away.

I may not agree with that, but I respect your opinion. He may care about these ladies, but they probably don't view life the same way as he does. They're probably hurting when he is cheating on them with someone else, and if he truly cares about them, he would take their feelings in consideration. Unless, you're also altering the NPC's personality to be able to fit your character.

Never mind to the second question.  :)

Polyamory is, at its core I think, about open and honest communication so that there are no secrets between the involved parties and thus no pain or hurt. He makes it very clear that he can love multiple people and there was a lot of discussion about the matter with Leliana and Morrigan, and then with Nerav and Mardy.

Ultimately yes I am altering the personalities of the NPCs in question, at least for Leliana and Morrigan because I don't believe the former would be monogamous and I feel the latter would have a more open mind (though the crux of it is that not everyone need be polyamorous as I understand it, but that there's an understanding between everyone involved).

Basically think of a Venn Diagram, I suppose. I'm certainly ill-equipped to talk about it though as I'm trying to figure out if I fit into that mold myself.

Nerav and Mardy didn't have much screen time to determine much of anything, so we're free to assume what we will.

One time I got a bit of dialogue between an Elf and a Chantry priest and the Elf was like "I heard there were some verses in the Chant of Light about an elf" and the priest went what was basically "NOPE NOPE THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE NOPE NOPE NOT TRUE AT ALL NOOOOOOOO NEVER WERE THERE ANY ELVES IN THE CHANT."

I'll try to get the images for you guys.

Spoiler

there we go.

Ah, to extend on this, it was in regards to the Herald of Andraste possibly getting a Canticle in the Chant, and the priest goes "It's too soon to tell."

I can see it now.... The Canticle of Nasir

"His beard was only matched by his chest hair. The sight of it and the Dwarf known as Tethras made the world bow before them."

However, I think Mother Giselle will bring up the Canticle or Book of Shartan herself to an elven IQ, so not everyone in the chantry is in denial. I think Giselle is one of the few likeable chantry priests we've seen, other than her behavior connected to Dorian, sigh.

Aimo's art is just............ is just................

I see her work, then when I play the games, I'm actually irked that the game feels shallow at times, when her comics capture what I want to happen

That picture is awesome.  So true too.  Proudly part of the 5% here as well.  What I really want to see is the data on DA: I.  Did dwarf Inquisitors go up, down, or stay the same now that we have a fourth option.  My gut is that qunari didn't really compete with dwarves, but I'd love to see the data.  Maybe those shirts will need to get updated to, dare we say, 8%?  Also, love that that dwarf guy is rocking a midriff shirt and booty shorts.  Dwarf guys have hella confidence!

Anyway, I haven't been posting in here much lately because I put Agathe to the side now that the console patch has dropped and I can finish up my Xbone version of my 'canon' qunari quizzie.  (Plus, stupid dissertation stuff......grumble)  Once I finish him up, I'll be back to posting awesome pics of my dwarfy gal!  I'm still lurking though and am waiting for more updates pics of a certain Judy Dench looking dwarf......

Yeah Aimo's work is amazing, and she's one of us! (Dwarf enthousiast).
Her lady Aeducan is just....woof. Been following her work since DAO, always put a smile on my face.

I'm not quite familiar with Aimo's work, but I have heard about her. She was set on climbing the wall(Blackwall).  It's nice to see some people devoted to making art of the dwarves. Apparently, we're using up the resources of the human players (Exception is Hawke of course  ).

You should check her work either on the bioware legacy forum or on Deviantart. Plenty of dwarf there (and don't get me started on her "stone temptress illustrations, that definitly spread the love for us little bastards ;) )

Edit : edit because bloody phone is useless

Her work is worth looking up. By far the best dwarf graphic art I've seen, and her characters all have so much personality. I particularly love her female dwarves.

I need help everyone!

cant decide between combo
#1.

Tempest human, conscripts mages

Templar dwarf, allies with Templars

Combo #2

Templar human, allies with Templars.

Tempest dwarf, conscripts mages.

I cant decide. I mean, Trevelyan's family are pro chantry and have family within the order, and a criminal dwarf would suit a rogue, HOWEVER, given the dwarf and the revelations on lyrium, a dwarf with the training of a templar should be a force to be reckoned with.

Sigh.

Templar dwarf would certainly be interesting. Get hooked on the stuff you previously peddled? You've got inside connections to get it cheap! =p

DLC confirmed to be in the works. No details known yet. Just a confirmation, that's all.

More adventures for Cadash!? Hell yea! I'm hoping for some dramatic twist and turns. I think more racial things would be a big bonus.

Fun fact: that elf, Charter, is the same lady who goes on to command Caer Bronach. Dunno what happens to Pellane though.

Currently I'm torn between dwarves and Qunari. I'd ask the people here who have played both which one they preferred but I feel like ya'll might be somewhat biased. :P

Yeah, I thought she introduced herself as Charter to the guy at Haven but wasn't sure I heard it wright.

For a dwarf warrior I go reaver because it's the closest to the old berserk spec in DAO, that was Oghren's and it was explained as being typically dwarvish (especially if you spoke with the Ash warriof ar Ostagar).
Tempest and Artificer makes sens aswell for a dwarf rogue as they are linked to smithing and alchemy.

I'd like to see more of Charter in the future. I enjoyed listening to her conversations with that guy in Haven, and I'm betting Leliana was keeping an eye on her (in a good way, as in someone with potential.)

I admit, I'm saving a qunari PT for when I'm otherwise bored with the game, so I can't give an informed opinion yet. They did a good job of including at least subtle dwarven content for dwarven IQs (little things like the dwarf in Skyhold confirming the paragon he'd carved had been Branka.) From videos and SSs I've seen, their ability to deal with height differences for both dwarves and qunari is wildly variable. I think the worst I've seen is a female qunari who somehow is shorter than Blackwall in a romance scene, sigh. I don't get the issue; apparently they've never seen a seated man kissed by a standing woman so a taller woman kissing a shorter man is just beyond their imaginations. (I know, it's more likely they just cheaped out on the animation and shrank or grew the qunari and dwarf in that scene to use a same one-size-fits-all animation for everyone, sigh, but it annoys the h**l out of me because they almost always do that.)
