@TEWR - Missed the whole conversation last night. Your description of her being ruthless, cunning, heart of gold and caring a great deal for her brother reminded me of Yara Greyjoy (Theon Greyjoy's sister) from Game of Thrones. So I would have voted for the first hairstyle based on that, but the others all worked just fine.

Black Emporium coming out in May, but I cannot remember if it's early or late May. Oh, well. "May." =p

I think I have 40 copies of Nogna in the Keep. I chat in the Origins chatroom with long-time friends so the game was always reading my files while I swapped in folders to check this or that. I play one character from start to finish so all the save files can be moved into a different folder when I'm done with a playthrough. That way I'm not confined to the 250 save limit across multiple characters. I just swap in folders as needed and that's how my keep world state would accumulate a billion copies of the same character. I try to play in off-line mode when not chatting.

I made the perfect little dwarf. Sat for 20 min getting the right shade of blue for her tattoo. After fiddling about in CC for 2 hrs she was there, perfection. The game starts, sometimes a character doesn't work in the game even if they look good in CC. Sable however rocked it at once. It was just so much fun! First big block of gamingtime for these few weeks. This will be awesome!!

That's when the game froze... and died. No save or nothing because it was too early. I'll be back with Sable later. Got some screencaps as a startingpoint at least, next time I'll go all out paparazzi. Just have to get past this little sad thing first. Got a really big pile of chocolate so that should help.

Cheers.

After my first attempt at creating a dwarf, I figured something.

While there's no rule that says a Surfacer dwarf can't have a huge beard, that look is more easily associated with the stuck up traditional types back in Orzammar.

No, I'd rather go with a part sophisticated business man, part ruthless mob boss thing.

So here we are.

Just going to ask this here. What does Josephine say if you pick the "violent solution" option (paraphrasing)?

Cadash will start listing all the violent activities and Josephine will interrupt saying that it's quite enough, she got the picture.

I found that out. It works for a dwarf. Maybe will go assassin instead of artificer.

Whenever a character works in a questionable line of business, Bioware decides his/her class should be rogue.

I don't suppose there's an issue with playing a Carta dwarf as a warrior, is there?

I actually went with the violent response this time around. I usually try to embrace the smuggling side of things, but my character's backstory involves lot of fighting and other Carta members trying to shake us up. Which seems to fit in with most of what Cadash was telling Josephine.

One of the options is stating that they guarded caravans or something. that sounds like a warrior.

Nah. You're the hired muscle. Also, don't overlook that House Cadash was originally warrior caste.

Dwarf mages would be awesome in DAI, but you know lore shackles *sad face*.  Maybe "when all the magic comes back, and everyone is what they were" the dwarves will get something cooler than being able to be mages.

Yeah I don't think there is any right class to play with any origin. I've seen people with amazing rogue Trevs or dual daggers Lavs for example, and while sure, those setups might on immediate thought, be less....I don't know, obvious? They're not lore breaking or anything, and easily supported.

I really don't want to see Dwarf mages, not having mages, templars, spirits, demons and all that jazz is what makes them the masterrace unique.

I'd be fine with a dwarf mage under very certain circumstances. Like if there was some kind of ancient dwarf like Solas/Sentinels, or half dwarf who looked very dwarfy, or some random exception, but not as the PC as a random exception.

If they were gonna bring magic back for all dwarves, that would be a huge game changer and require a good story. So I mean theoretically it could be cool? But I'm wary. I also don't think they'll do it so it's like...wary of a hypothetical that is not probable.

Evidence indicates the PT Dwarves were Mages themselves.

I do like telling Lady Josephine that he did alot of killing, mainly for her reaction to it.

Flint getting declared Inquisitor, where he said he will be a servant of Faith.

I personally think that the carta=rogue thing is the most logical thing on the list. I dwarf warrior seems more body guard and not a spy type.

Using that criteria, pretty much all dwarves and Dalish should have been rogues, all qunari should have been warriors and humans should have been either warriors or mages. It's all in how you write their background. It would be relatively easy for a dwarven warrior to go to the conclave and blend in like he or she was someone's bodyguard, possibly easier than for a rogue. Pretty easy for anyone to blend in as a servant or mercenary. Not that I don't love the professional spy/rogue possibilities, but there's lots of reasons for sending someone else as a spy (including sending in a small mixed team with the IQ as the only survivor). It isn't as if they are there to do more than find out which way the wind is blowing in general.

Because I just got home and I have to tell someone: I ran a dwarfy Dragon Age tabletop game at a con today, and it went amazingly well! The players managed to solve the murder and placate the noble who threatened them. (They also dented a valuable golem, but all in the line of duty.) Even the people whose initial reaction  was but 'why do we have to play dwarves?' agreed afterwards that Orzammar was a pretty interesting place.

(There was one qunari mercenary, because someone had to be the mage. And because sight gags amuse me.)

That sounds like a lot of fun! I was at a con recently; wasn't terribly impressed with the selection of games people were running. I like Munchkin, but it's kind of sad when that seems to be the most interesting game in progress all weekend, lol.

Yay, Andraste! (Wow, that sounds weird out of context on a dwarf thread, lol.) That's awesome.

I actually haven't played any properly organised games all weekend because there's hardly anything on. I blame the terrible booking system that almost discouraged me from signing up to run anything. On the bright side, that may partially account for why several people told me afterwards that my game was the best thing they'd played at this con...

Anyway, I had a great time running it and I'm planning for it to be the first instalment in an Orzammar-centric 'campaign' of sorts. Not necessarily starring the same player characters, but set in the same universe.

Yeah, it's a weird handle for a dwarf fan :D . The reason for that being that Andraste was my pseudonym for nine years before DAO even came out ...

(No, really, no joke. Started posting fanfic in 2000 and borrowed the name of a certain Celtic goddess to post it under. I even have IRL friends who call me 'Draste as well as my real name. So you can imagine my surprise when I booted up the game I'd been anticipating for ages and discovered that it was the name of the prophet. Certainly explained why I couldn't register my standard user name on the forums! I still do a double take every time someone says 'Andraste's knicker-weasles!' or the like.)
