Unfortunately, I decided to give up on my dwarf warrior, probably because of my brain telling mt that short=/=intimidating.

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."
I have a much easier time viewing Cadash as a vicious warrior with the Carta background rather than some pampered baby noble who has probably never gone hungry.

As I said, it is just my brain, Giant Qunari with a two handed axe charging at me? That is scary. Dwarf, not as scary honestly.

You'd change your tune if a sword or axe was going straight for your groin.

Honestly, I'd be more scared a giant Qunari coming to chop me in half. just me, though. Plus, the dwarf background just screams Double Dagger rogue to me for some reason.

When I create dwarves I can picture them as warriors easier than anything else. But I also create backgrounds that are more conducive to warriors (not that there's anything wrong with rogues, which is usually my favorite class to play).

Funny, maybe it's the Tolkien first intro to dwarves for me, but I have no problem thinking of them as really fierce, frightening warriors. Not that I don't love my dwarven DW rogues. An archer was the biggest mental adjustment for me for a dwarf, but I've had a great time with mine.

I dono, Billy Connolly riding a pig into battle is far more fearsome than a cow man, imo. ![]()

Slightly off-topic:
I was just reading the newest issue of Game Informer and there was an article on Sword Coast Legends, a new Baldur's Gate-esque PC game set in the Forgotten Realms. Well, so what? Why bring it up?
Good question. Here's why! They previewed four companion characters and TWO of them are dwarves! There's a female dwarf warrior who seems to be your starting companion and there's a male dwarf rogue(?) who comes as part of a duo with a female moon elf character. They seem bad ass and it's amazing to see that 50% of the announced companions are dwarves! Including a lady dwarf! They never get any play!
Makes me wish I had a good gaming PC......

I like Dwarves a lot. Why?
Fantasy writers could have made the shortest race feeble and ineffectual.
Instead they put them on par with the other races and in many ways made them outshine the rest.
The best architects (possible exception Qunari) finest warriors and most interesting culture all go to the Dwarven race.
In pretty much every fantasy, Dwarves normally occupy the roles of engineers, warriors, merchants and artisans.
If only they could cast spells. Alas, rogues can have access to alchemy, traps and explosives and warriors can be Templars and Spirit Warriors.
If "enchantment" is more your thing, well I know of one fellow who can out mage a mage any day. Dangerous artefact that turns people crazy? Pfft no problem. He'll turn it into a rune to add to your equipment. No idea what it does but hey at least it doesn't glow red.
Dragon Age series has so much pseudo magic in it that you can play a mage without being a mage.

That dwarf female was the protagonist, not a companion. But, it was nice to see them show off a female dwarf protagonist. The dwarf companion and human companion didn't seem to get along in the banter, but we should see.
I wish they would put it on the Mac.
Oh? Boo! I was hoping for a bad ass female dwarf companion.
Oh well, at least they used a lady dwarf as the PC example. That's still pretty cool.

I know! I just want a badass female warrior dwarf that's serious about the culture and isn't a complete jokester. Embrace her race to the fullest.

I really hope the next Elder Scrolls game has a slider for height and a slider for build.
I would choose a short, stocky, muscular Nord with a huge beard if that were doable.
I think that can be achieved with mods.
As for Dragon Age. I'm glad they're in the game. I want to play as a Dwarven Mage. I just don't know which "pseudo-magical" spec is the best?
Tempest + Sabotage [Rogue]
Artificer + Sabotage [Rogue]
Templar [Warrior]
Is Reaver pseudo magical? I know in Dragon Age Origins they are a messed up Dragon Worshipping cult. [Warrior]

I would say yeah, close enough.

It is unknown why dragon blood transforms as it does because the answer requires a knowledge of both forbidden magic and dragons that hasn't existed since the early days of the Tevinter Imperium - and even then was a closely guarded secret. All that's known is that dragon blood is a source of immense power to those willing and strong enough to embrace its dangers.
I think templar or reaver both work just fine for fake-magic. Not familiar enough with the rogue specs beyond artificer.

Personally, i hope the dwarves don't become standard mages like every other race. It takes away from their unique qualities within the dragon age universe.
I envision that either through the new info regarding lyrium, the dialogue from cole and solas, and the titan bit from Kieran, that any magical abilities a dwarf would display would involve lyrium.
Currently, our shapers and dwarven enchanters can do marvels with lyrium. However, if dwarves are Awakened to some magical abilities, we will see abilities reminiscent of the abilities displayed by the red templars. I would love to have my dwarf form lyrium constructs in the palm and fling it at enemies.
If we don't get dwarven 'mages' in future games, i would love to see a class that uses items with lyrium runes that evoke different magical effects. Say, a rune that when wielded by the dwarf, sends out an energy shockwave that knocks enemies back, or another rune that increases weapon damage or offers protection to the wielder.
I got the idea after seeing people wanting a new class in the dragon age games and admittedly had some influence from d&ds cleric and runepriest classes.
Also as Varric says, it really is interesting that a people with no.connection to the fade, the dwarves sure do use alot of magic (paraphrased).
As for now, i guess i just have to settle with my dwarven warrior and rogues:)

I'm so looking forward to Shadowrun: Hong Kong and Is0bel! I loved playing as a mage dwarf in Shadowrun Returns. (While I don't really want dwarves to become standard mages in Dragon Age, it is a nice subversion that dwarves actually make the BEST mages in Shadowrun. Eleven Willpower FTW!) I really liked having a female dwarf companion in Pillars of Eternity, especially one as cool as Sagani. She ended up being one of my favourites even beyond her awesome dwarfiness and fluffy fox companion.
Still in two minds about Sword Coast Legends - I'm waiting to see how developed the single-player campaign is before I commit, since I've got no interest in the multiplayer stuff. (I was badly burned by Neverwinter Nights when it comes to games where the single-player story was a tacked-on afterthought.)

Fellow Dwarves help me with this choice.....should I make Grör a Champion or Reaver? The warrior that can rally his troops and fight till the last or the warrior that fights with the rage and fire of a dragon! haha
