Tishina brought up something really interesting in the Cullen thread earlier, thought I'd drop it here;

BTW, on the subject of handwaving past games, you do realize the Brosca/Dwarf commoner origin in DAO has been rendered completely impossible by their redesign of female dwarves to make them about half as wide in the shoulders as male dwarves? The entire point of that origin, and the reason Duncan gets to recruit her, is that she puts on a male warrior's armor and impersonates him in combat (with her helm closed) through to the final round of a proving without anyone noticing she's a male until the drunken-but-famous-sot she's impersonating stumbles onto the field at the beginning of the final bout. There is absolutely no way she could successfully have fought in armor that much too big without it being obvious, or, if she altered it to fit her, that every single dwarf in Orzammar who got into the proving, including the sot's friends, didn't notice that was a woman and not a man. So, she not only committed the ultimate crime in Orzammar, she apparently was practicing blood magic (never mind that dwarves don't have magic) to confuse the minds of the entire city of Orzammar...

What's everyone's handwave for how Fem!Brosca passed herself off as Everd, now female dwarves are designed more slimmer?

Mine is that either she managed to fight in ill-fighting armour anyway (because she's a badass) or she used some kind of padding (such as Leske) to make it look like she was far more beefier than she actually was?

My headcanon is simply that Cadash is just very petite for a dwarf and everyone is either too polite or not knowledgeable enough about dwarf ladies to mention it.

More screenshots of Fjalar trying to be badass but also majestic. Both the former and the latter are up to debate.

I must say Merela, your Cadash has great taste in women.

Cassandra    was the love interest for my Cadashes, and my manyTrevelyans, and now my Lavellan mage...

Well Cass also has great taste in dwarwen men.

Fjalar is the only of my character who is romancing her though; my mage lady Trevelyan is going to end with Josie and my mage Adaar guy will steal Dori-Dori's heart. I like to try different love interests for different playthroughs, though Fjalar and Cass are my canon.

Also I've finally joined AO3. So far I've only posted one story (which I already posted on this thread a few months ago) but here's the link anyway: http://archiveofouro...g/works/3871036 Comments and critics are welcomed, I'll try to post new stuff soon.

OK, so, on the idea of padding. Take a board that extends about 9 inches past the end of your shoulders on each side and fasten it to your shoulders (which is about what the difference looks like now.) Look in a mirror while you do things with your arms. Does it look as if the shoulder rotation of your arms is out at the end of the board or do they still appear to rotate at their normal place? That's why I commented that padding isn't going to create an illusion that your shoulders are really that wide when fighting...as soon as you actually move your arms, it's going to be obvious that your actual shoulder is not out at the shoulder cups. Either the armor was altered to fit, making her obviously a woman with the new body type, or the armor obviously doesn't fit and she still is outed as a woman because you can't hide where your shoulders are rotating from.

I'm still going with either Char's idea or the other suggestion that the DAI body type doesn't really exist and my dwarves still look like dwarves and not hobbits. :P ;)

It would be sweet, but I'm not holding my breath either, lol. Frankly, I'll just be thrilled to be able to fix CC problems.

that'd be cool, but then I'd say that Qunari needs a little love first.

Gilsa, that's awesome! xD

Also, hello all. I'm Brain Defect and dwarves are my favourite race in Dragon Age. It's a damn shame that so few people play as them. They're missing out for sure. In my opinion Dwarf Noble and Dwarf Commoner were the best character origins in DAO. I don't know how anyone can say that a Human Noble was the best one, for me it was little better than a Dalish Elf(which I thought, was booooring), only because of the fact you can become a King/Queen in the end.

It's awesome how being a Dwarf affected your decision about choosing a king. My Brosca choose Bhelen, because ofc she wanted to support her sister. Though, having read all the discussion here, choosing Harrowmont doesn't sound bad.

I have always thought that it would have been fun to, as Aeducan, support Bhelen the whole time, and then after finding the Crown, choose Harrowmont as king. Does Bhelen say something specific to Warden Aeducan then?

Anyway, my Aeducan chose Harrowmont. Just seemed like a best option to me. I haven't even considered Bhelen. I thought that helping him would be damn awkward, and not fair at all to Harrowmont, since he actually believed in my Warden and helped her.

Though I'm a damn weirdo and in the Keep i chose Bhelen as king on that save. XD'

I'm playing a lady Dwarf at the moment. Love the fact that I'm a Cadash, just like my favourite DAO companion <3.

Meet Cara, little assassin. :)

- pics of beautiful inquisitor cadash snipped -

Of course she romances Blackwall >D

@Brain -- Hey! Welcome! Beautiful pictures of your gal. Loved it. And to answer your bolded question, sadly, no, Bhelen says nothing when you do the bait-and-switch. Not even a "well-played, sister/brother, well-played." I played a game like that once, was disappointed, and then hated the idea of Harrowmont thinking Aeducan was stabbing him in the back instead of treating him like a family friend. So my next replay, I went back to just siding with him from the get-go.

HOWEVER -- there is a bait-and-switch dialogue that IS available, but it's not widely known because there are too many conditions needed to make it fire (such as agreeing to work for Harrowmont first and then switching to Bhelen AND having Wynne in your party). Copying and pasting into spoiler tags. I hope you can follow the conversation branches.

I reject DAI's model and still head-cannon that the dwarven females are the same as they were back in DAO days. All they had to do was fix the ape-arms, that's it. Since the DA2 models for elves still got an upgrade in DA3, hopefully they'll tweak the dwarf female model in the next game so they're less hobbit-like. The dwarf female was very nearly equal to the dwarf male and you believed she could take a blow as a tank. Now they're half the size Varric is and it's just tough to see the changes. Why make the female body more delicate and then give them beards like they're men? Pick a stance.

Thanks, Gilsa! I'm going to read all that dialogue right now! :D

About the female dwarf bodytype - I don't quite like that she's so small as well. I mean, sure she's cute, but it just seems wrong.

And it seems like the female humans are smaller in Inquisition than in DA2/DAO as well...

It is just sad, that male characters have varied bodytypes, but females look so similiar... I mean, lady qunari is little bigger than a female human! Where are her awesome muscles?

Well, at least she's very tall, so they didn't fail at least in that.

Now, I'm going back to that dialogue <3

As you know, most races and classes get special dialogue with specific companions.

If you're a mage, Cullen will ask you about it. If you're qunari, there's a full conversation with Dorian on the subject.

Does Cadash get anything like that? I was kinda expecting some dwarf talk with Varric when I got to Haven, but nothing yet.

Dorian has some dwarf talk since in Tevinter the dwarves are more respected.

Blackwall will talk to you about being in the Carta for a bit, while Dorian mentions Dwarves in Tevinter and also stereotypical perceptions of Dwarves. There's commentary elsewhere, like if you bring Varric to the Hissing Wastes you and he can have a bit of banter about the Dwarves there and how them living on the surface is kinda odd considering typical Dwarven customs and mentalities.

You'd think we'd get more dwarf-specific talk with Varric of all people, right? Even the religious conversation seemed to drop the ball where there was real potential to talk about the Stone. I know Varric will talk about you being in the Carta in the prologue and if you take the mountain path, he will refer to you as the other dwarf in the party, but beyond that, he's a pretty generic guy. I thought he was the worst of the three companions for the Hissing Waste commentary for the tombs. (Iron Bull was best with his observations, Blackwall was interesting with his story even though not dwarf-specific, but Varric merely shows disdain for the dwarven past, which fits his character anyway.)

Like others have said, Blackwall will have the lengthiest conversation about the Carta. The others are more of a line here and there. Cole has a couple of one-on-one comments on his observations of Cadash.

I don't think we have a lot of 2H Cadashes in this thread so I wanted to share about 2H schematic (Axe of the Dragon Hunter) in the Black Emporium that got me excited for the RP potential. It is identical to an unique dwarven greataxe called "Glittering Darmallon." The description says:

The dwarven thaig Darmallon was one of Thedas's greatest sources of gold. This axe predates the thaig's loss to the darkspawn, and from flecks on the hilt, the blade was once coated in gold.

I was disappointed when I originally acquired it because it was too low-level at the time. Now I can craft this weapon from the Axe of the Dragon Hunter schematic and rename it as the Glittering Darmallon. I can even use Dragon Bone to have it gleaming gold again as if I ordered it to be restored.

Just saying. Yay! =D

Well, I wasn't too happy about the BE, but it was a Free DLC so I won't complain.  ;)  At least we were able to get the Carta coat schematic, which is nice to have even if it's weaker than my current armor.

Nice find, Gilsa.

That looks like a menacing weapon. Love the name of it too. Both the weapon and the one you crafted.

My first Cadash was a Two handed warrior Champion (it's good to be a champion)

For him I ended up using the Anderfels cleaver schematic. I found it fitting, since I rped the crafted weapon was a gift from Paragon Brosca, and called Brosca's Blessing.

I haven't tried Reaver class. Is that any good/fun?

Now if you excuse me, I finally have a chance to explore the Emporium.

It's the Legion of the Dead Armour and it's located after finding all of Paragon Fairel's Tombs in the Hissing Wastes. You'll have to slog through the first part of the game until you get to Skyhold, then do that arduous trekking across the Hissing Wastes back and forth before you get it, but it's ultimatel worth it, since it does look great on a dwarven warrior.

Shame that it's lacking the heraldry on the front like in Origins and DA2, although I guess the LotD have become a lot more protective when it comes to brand recognition since the days of the Fifth Blight?

I've only played the 2H reaver so I can't really compare it to champion. I personally like reaver because I see her as an offensive character. Blackwall fills the champion role in the party. 2H swings are pretty slow as it is so reaver just lashes out and feels a lot faster. Iron Bull has reaver abilities so if he's in your regular party, you can test it out through him and see how ya like it. Both Iron Bull and Cassandra will acknowledge your reaver spec if you go that route.

I crafted the weapon last night and called it "Glittering Darmallon of Yore." Looks nice, but it wasn't really designed to be crafted. Adding a haft will have two graphics clipping over each other. The custom pommel will disappear because the original pommel is so large. Leaving the haft slot empty doesn't bother me since I carry stuff for RP reasons, but I can see it bothering a min/maxer.

Eastern-most tomb in Hissing Wastes. Closest to Mountain Fortress Camp (there's a dirt ramp up the mountain to north). You'll have to clear some mobs before you can go inside. I don't remember what level they were. 12 to 15ish?
