This sounds like me with my Brosca fella! Either way, you can't go wrong with dorfs. :P

Another hair mod that dwarves can use. This time it's the "Anders" hairstyle that's been updated (no receding hairline, yeah!). I know most people on this thread are console users so if you'd rather not get these updates, just say the word, no biggie. Even if I don't use these mods, I just really like seeing dwarves being included instead of being on the sidelines so I personally find this stuff interesting. ;)

I'm a masochist, so I don't mind seeing what goodies the PC players get and then imagining how awesome they'd be for me!

I'm a PC player, and I think with the BE out, I may try reloading the mod manager and trying a few mods again. So please keep posting them!

Awesome. Don't sweat it when the modded hairstyle doesn't show up in the BE. Just select the hairstyle you know it replaces and it will show up when you leave the Black Emporium.

Somebody on tumblr mentioned the idea of fancy braided beards being some kind of... dwarf hanky code. I love it! I know that in Orzammar there's vambraces = single and ready to mingle, but I'd love to expand on that to include beards (because BEARDS). Could be one of the reasons so many casteless run around all stubbly, besides not having time for upkeep.

Maybe high society dorf ladies wear their hair a certain way until they're married or become mothers? Or dwarves looking for a casual hook-up let the braids outta their beards, or something?

idk man I just love dwarf beard code, it's a thing now I'm sure of it

Also, quick question: how can I justify Cadash having a British accent? I think Alix's tone would suit this chara better than Sumalee's, but EVERY dwarf in this series, even lifelong surfacers like Harding and Varric, have American accents.

I think the only exception is Bodahn. So, has anybody else thought of a decent headcanon for this? :P

My Cespar hung around humans mostly, and he decided to imitate/pick up their accent for future carta missions, because he felt that it made humans "comfortable."

Just assume it's based on where they grew up and not racial, just like irl. I have a friend, American born but spent most of his childhood in Hong Kong who speaks with a British accent...  I pick the female voice based on personality - AWR for more diplomatic or manipulative IQs, the American accent for more aggressive or brasher ones, but that's not based on the accent, it's based on the voice actors. AWR has a lovely voice, but she just doesn't hit the aggressive dialogue very well for me.

You're the master of disguises. It's like dueling with your left hand first to lower your opponent's guard and then switching to right hand, ah haaa! British accent could be a cover. In a TV show that I won't mention in case people haven't seen it yet, one character is very fluent in many languages, but employs an interpreter for his dealings. Not even the interpreter knew the guy knew exactly what was being said and what was being relayed. People lowered their guard and got a bit more careless with their words, thinking he wasn't picking up on it. A dwarf having a British accent could be employing the same mind f*cks.

Well, that's how I'd approach it if I had to think of a RP reason. I remember asking my husband if he had an opinion on the voice since he was going to be listening to me playing the game because our computers were in the same room. He picked British, always British! (And I went with American because I forgot to switch the toggle at the CC.)

Oh, and about the hair being code for stuff, that makes perfect sense. I watched a documentary a loooooong time ago (like ancient Rome or ancient ... something, you get the idea) and it mentioned that only wealthy ladies were allowed to wear their hair up. Everyone else had to wear theirs down. It was a class symbol for that era. And then a volcano ate them all. The end.

Thank you all for your responses! My first thought was that the accent should just be a matter of where you grew up, but then I'm like... how come other surface dwarves sound exactly like their cave-dwelling counterparts, no matter where they were born/raised?! I know it's just a small thing, but it drives me nuts. It doesn't help that the British voice on either sex sounds REALLY posh.

Lmao, I like the idea that Cadash is just ****** with people. That's brilliant. My ~magical~ dwarven Herald of Andraste who has a fake accent and probably a fake ID is officially a troll.

Hmm, perhaps it could be something similar to my headcanon for the origin of Bodahn's pseudo-English accent?

My pet theory for why Bodahn is the only Englishman in Orzammar (despite being played by an American) is that he originally affected his accent to make himself sound more posh and cultured, thinking it helped when dealing with the nobles visiting his shop in Orzammar? He kept it up even after becoming a travelling merchant on the surface, as well as being perfect for the role of Hawke's butler in DA2? Although, after a decade of using it, I think that it's more or less stuck and become his natural speaking voice?

Could be that Cadash sounds British because they're similarly putting the accent on, although as Gilsa pointed out, their reasons could be far more insidious and manipulative than Bodahn's attempt at culture? Cadash recognises that sharing the same accent as someone else often puts people more at ease, so by affecting an accent that sounds vaguely Ferelden or Marcher, they were able to subtly manipulate people they dealt with as part of their work in the Carta to their advantage, whether it be to lower their guard or simply help make business deals?

Perhaps they used it as part of their disguise when going undercover to spy on the Conclave and simply chose to maintain the accent when everything hit the fan and they were caught in the blast? After all, it wouldn't exactly build trust with Leliana or Cassandra to reveal they've been using a fake accent, especially right after you've just convinced them that you're not the one who caused the Breach?

(Actually, this might also work as well to explain why Lavellan is one of the few Dalish these days without a Welsh or Irish accent... even though it'd not exactly be a good disguise, what with the vallaslin all over their face?)

One of my Cadash's sold smuggled luxury goods to noble houses and had someone train her so she spoke and acted like the human nobles (and she was raised on the surface in the Freemarches anyway.) If she ever used the Orzammar accent, she's forgotten it.

A quick question.

What does Corypheus say to a dwarf inquisitor in the final battle? example to a Qunari he says that the race isn't really a race and mentions blood gorged with decay.

Thanks :)

Corypheus: "You have been most successful in foiling my plans, but let us not forget what you are."
Corypheus: "A thief, in the wrong place at the wrong time. An interloper. A gnat."
Corypheus: "We shall prove here, once and for all, which of us is worthy of godhood."
Cadash: "I don't believe in gods."
Corypheus: "You dare."

(While fighting)
Corypheus: "You think to best me? A runted dirt-worshipper?"
Corypheus: "Your people have ever been the sand beneath Tevinter heels!"

(Taunting Varric)
Corypheus: "A beardless stone-worshipper? Run as fast as your little legs can take you!"
Varric: "So you're reduced to dwarf jokes now?"

The Stone has a will that surrounds and directs; she guides even when we are willfully blind to her influence. But she is not pure. The Stone bears a corruption as old as balance. For the dwarves to prosper, the gangue--the waste and unstable rock-- must be cut away. But like the Stone, the gangue also has an influence. Each of us must face this, must carve the worst of ourselves away, but theLegion of the Dead bears a unique responsibility. Only the fully adorned of the Legion can face the gangue, can cut into darkness that afflicts the raw Stone. She encircles us, and we must protect her, here where darkness meets light.

--A Legion of the Dead inscription, undated

The "Dwarves forgot the dwarves" is correct. Seems like Ancient Dwarves had a sacred duty to The Stone that they eventually forgot.

And that is why my Dwarven warrior is going to smash every bit of red lyrium he can find, take out red Templars...all whilst in the Legion of the dead armour ;)

Hey gang this isn't Dragon Age related but it's vaguely dwarf related. Steam is currently having a Shadowrun sale, including a pre-order for Shadowrun Hong Kong.

Shadowrun Returns- $2.99

Shadowrun Dragonfall- Director's Cut- $4.50

Shadowrun Hong Kong pre-order- $19.99

In addition Dragonfall is receiving a new update. I've just been on a Shadowrun kick for the last month or so and I had to tell someone, lol.
