I know lots of women who are broad shouldered and strong looking and every one of them is attractive in my book. I don't play to have a PC who looks sexy for someone else, I want a physically strong woman.

The only women you know with that build are people who abuse certain hormones and steroids. Period. Women absolutely cannot have that body type naturally, or else you'd have female soldiers and athletes looking like that... But you don't, only the ones who abuse steroids ever get that build, natural strength gaining doesn't cause women to bulk up like that. What you consider "physically strong women" are unnaturally built, unhealthily built. And honestly... It's kinda sexist that you think otherwise. Your idea of a strong looking woman is a woman with a male build, instead of women with a strong female build. That is definitely some kind of sexist bias, to think that a woman is only strong looking because she looks masculine and unhealthy. That model isn't a strong woman's model, it's an addict's model of someone who is addicted to pumping themselves full of crap to look tough. It also gives a very unhealthy body image, that looking strong as a woman isn't good enough because you think the muscles still look too pathetic because they don't look like a man's muscles. You have to look strong as a man, or it's not enough. That is a very screwed up mindset. My mindset is that strong women and strong men are biologically wired to pack on muscles differently, and that women who look like strong women and not like strong men looks better and healthier.

Summed up, your idea of strong and muscular women is:

1.unhealthy

2.unnatural

3.a bit sexist

4. and support a bad body image, because that body type actually negatively affect the women who have bodies like that

This isn't about them looking "sexy", and it's annoying that you think I'm coming from the position of wanting to be turned on. Frankly, if that's where your mind goes first to my reasonable complaints then I think the problem lies with you. This has nothing to do with attraction or sexiness, it has to do with accepting that women's bodies don't act like men's bodies when they get stronger and that the body I see in that screenshot is about as far from healthy as a woman's body could be.

And people don't complain about men's bodies? Then... Why have I seen so many complaints in the past about how fugging terrible male elf's look, because their bodies are ludicrously thin and disgusting looking? And I'll note that I'm complaining about a modded female body because that is the subject at hand, in response to a very specific screenshot posted earlier. If I saw an unnatural and unhealthy male body because of a mod, I'd complain just as much about that too. Don't go assuming I have a double standard when I've not shown any hint of having one.

And Eggplant is right, there's barely any dwarf modding going on right now. And the surprising thing is that when there ARE mods that get put out for dwarves, those modders get flack from unhappy dwarves and it discourages them from wanting to make any more for a race that they don't even play in the first place. Couple examples below. There have been more, but I don't remember where else I've seen them

That's a little better. The are around the upper arms and shoulders still don't look healthy or natural, but it's better.

Second point: I'm sorry, criticism is bad? People need to start understanding the difference between needless insulting of work and actual criticism. One is about tearing down, the other is about improvement. All I've done is the latter. Should we just accept problems because we're afraid of hurting feelings? I can't do that. I see problems, I attempt to bring up problems so they can be dealt with and fixed and improved. I already said, using the women pics I linked to as a basis will get people strong looking women that are strong in an actually healthy and realistic way.

Whatever. I avoid the elf threads so I have no idea what's said there. Dunno where you live, but I do know women with broad shoulders, as broad or broader than the average man, and they didn't get them from steroids. And that is what I want. You keep overlooking the fact that I said if I were designing the body shape, the arms wouldn't be that bulgy (I never said I thought she needed a male's heavy-weight class muscle, but you keep reading that into it.) I have a right to like what I like and I am not limited to what you dictate as the only appropriate body types. I'd take apart your argument, including the idea that all women are smaller than all men (which is essentially what you're saying,) but I'm putting a stop to this discussion before the moderators intervene. Don't like how my dwarf looks? Fine, scroll past and let me and the others enjoy a non-human woman who pleases us. Because I will be posting other screenshots of her.

Broud shoulders? Yes, women have them. Broad in the way they in that shot? No. And yeah, you have the right to use whatever body you want... But don't act like that body is the paragon of women's fitness and strength, by any stretch. And post all the pics you want. Did I say "oh my god that is HIDEOUS so don't you dare ever post a screenshot again!"?... I don't recall saying that, or demanding that, or even requesting that. Do what you want. It's not like the pic actually affected me, it was just a pic that I can skip past.

My problem with the shoulders aren't really the width, by the way. It's the overall size. They're too high, too round, too large. A woman with a skeletal structure like that would be thought to have had some kind of genetic disorder if her skeleton had been examined.

Doot doot doot, just gonna leave these here...

NZ shot-putter Valerie Adams: http://www.odt.co.nz..._54a8d1183d.JPG

And of course, the best women's tennis player in the world, Serena Williams: http://i.telegraph.c...ms_3372298b.jpg

They're all too tall, of course, but you get the idea.

(Plus, y'know, dwarves aren't human. They're supposed to be different, they're supposed to have non-human physiques, they even traditionally have a lot less gender dimorphism than humans. So having a figure that is 'too masculine' or very bulky and stocky, even on female dwarves, makes plenty of sense to me. Thumbs up for body diversity from me!)

None of those women look like that modded dwarf. They all look natural and still have the appearance of how muscular women can look. Even that rather impressive singular example who looks like she could break me in half.

Second paragraph:

True, they're not human. But they have canon, and the canon has never shown a dwarf like that, ever. Even in official art.

Not trying to shut anyone up but I'd rather not see this lovely thread get locked because of the way the current discussion/disagreement/argument/debate may be heading.

Mods are getting funnier about what's on-topic these days even when it may appear to some thread posters that it is relevant.

I need my dwarf support (cause it's hard out there for a dwarf lover in this media) and I don't want to see this get locked.

Too much good stuff in here to see it go the way of the old Cassandra thread and it may not get the Sera thread treatment of just a post scrubbing either.

If anyone wishes to further debate it, could you please take it to PM?

So I'm hoping this next DLC isn't the last one for DAI.

Per all the stuff in the "survey leak" plus comments from the dev team themselves in some interviews, I just don't see how Solas, a Qunari invasion PLUS the Deep Roads is going to fit into a 'DLC' and not an 'expansion'. Well I mean it could with heavy retconning and handwaving but still to adequately wrap up DAI's story, I don't see one DLC doing that.

Plus has anyone heard if the Titans will be making an appearance in the DLC, handwaved, or saved for DA4?

I'd be disappointed if this was the last single player DLC to be released for Inquisition. No matter what it covered. Two DLCs is not enough.  :P

I want more time with my Inquisitors and the great cast of characters. I don't want to leave Thedas so soon and then have to wait til DA 4.

I'd also be surprised if Inquisition only got 2 since DA 2 had 2 DLCs and a canceled Expansion because they decided to work on Inquisition. And by all accounts, Inquisition has been more successful.

^^^ That is what I tell myself when I fear that we may only get 2 DLC.

I'm wondering if what we're getting is a two part DLC  - something like the upcoming Pillars of Eternity expansion that's being released in halves. The survey leak does make it sound as if there's an awful lot going on for something the same size as Jaws of Hakkon.

Either way, I'm hoping for dwarf stuff!

Would mods really lock a thread for a mere page or 2 out of 247 getting lightly debate-y? They can't be that bad... Right?

Was in a super dwarfy mood tonight so I went searching for art to share! There's a little something for everyone!

So while I was hunting for the art I found myself reading the comments on a lot of it and uhhh...

People either want:

- females to look like just barely legal hot young adults

- females to look like stick figures

- females to look like men

- females to look like sexpots with boobs bigger than their bodies

- males to look like furry snowmen

- males to look like furry boulders

It's not feedback like "A rounder face, softer curves, a little less muscle definition would improve the drawing. The anatomy proportions need a little work but otherwise not a bad start. the shading is a little heavy handed but it's still a nice pic.", instead it's "her face looks like a man. why is her body so square? she looks silly. that many muscles on a woman is nasty. there's no way she'd carry that size weapon, she's just a dwarf. why is his face so small? why does this woman have a beard? you must be new to drawing if you made this. did you notice how the boots looked before you posted this? what shoes do you know that look like that? you need better reference pics to help you out:blink:

Maybe my concept of constructive criticism is different from everyone else.

OAN, I came across a lot of good art! I should peruse DA more often...and stay out of the comments section

That's a dwarf? She looks... Big. Like she'd be a head taller than a qunari "big". She actually reminds me a bit of Hanna from Fable 2.

Andy, the artist labeled it as a dwarf female so that's good enough for me. Try thinking of the drawing as a zoomed-in close up maybe?

Anyhoo, I love the beard on that male dwarf design one and the hairstyle on that female dwarf design! I like that whole long side braid.

That bowtie guy looks awesome!!!

And I just wanted to get some general dwarf love rolling tonight/today that's all. Dwarves of Thedas still rule this thread

nains_01_3.jpg

Last month a comic book about Dwarves was released here in France. Simply named "Nains" (Dwarves), it tells the story of Redwin, a teenage Dwarf of the Order of the Forge who wants to become the Lord of the Runes of his clan (the Lord of the Runes fights for his Order against the champion of another when there is a conflict between Dwarves to avoid a bloodbath), though his father opposes his will. Redwin, who suffered from the fact his father is called a coward for refusing to create runic weapons, decides to become the Lord of the Runes by his own means. Alas there is a price to pay for greatness, and Redwin will lose a lot to make his dream come true.

It's the first tome of a series of five, and gods I cannot wait for the next books to come out! The story is really good (older, bitter Redwin narrating his youth and the decisions which led him to his situation at the beginning of the story), and I find the drawings beautiful. Each tome will be drawn by a different artist, so I'm very curious of how the Dwarves will be pictured next time.

The editor released a trailer for the comic on youtube before it was out. I hope it'll work for you people:

Also a preview of the nine first pages was released on the web, I'm going to put them under a spoiler. If some of you are interested by a translation, just ask me and I'll do my best!

@90s Kai -- It's mostly just quiet (not just this thread, but others, too). Some speculation on what the next DLC will be about, but nothing in stone. ;)

I'm good. I think we're all mostly waiting for the new DLC that's going to come out. I'm hoping that the new DLC offer more race reaction, so we can get some more goodies about being a dwarf, especially if the Qunari thing is true. I need to look up what Sten said to the dwarf warden, so I can get a better feeling of how the Qunari feel about dwarves.

@Merela OMFG! I like the art style of the dwarves in that comic. Nains sounds badass and his adventure sounds like it's going to be a epic one. I'm usually against stereotypes, but seems like this is offering a whole new outlook on a dwarf's life, especially since it's going to be about a younger dwarf instead of a old one.
